Leadership is a choice, not an appointment - we earn the right to be called a leader by our actions, not by our status

Leading is a privilege and a burden. It carries a moral imperative to serve along with the responsibility to lead. We need the courage to hold firm to our beliefs and to live our lives in a manner that engenders the trust of those whom we lead.

As leaders, we have a duty to be honest and name the realities and the challenges that we face - there is no place for leaders who provide obscuration rather than enlightenment. We earn the right to be trusted by the actions we take.

Our role is to help realise the organisational purpose. We have no right to collude with actions that we believe may compromise the long-term sustainability of the business or bring harm to those that we serve.

Our role is to act as stewards for the future and counter our increasing urge for immediate gratification and short termism. Any strategic vision that does not embrace a sense of duty and stewardship by those who lead is fundamentally flawed.
