The leader always pay a key role for the success and excellence of any organization.

Importance of leadership
Leadership indicates ability of an individual to influence other.
It tries to bring change in the behavior of others
It indicates interpersonal relation ship between leaders and followers.
Leadership is exercised to achieve common goals of organization
Leadership is a continuous process.
Qualities of leadership•PHISICAL FEATURES- physical features like height, weight, health, appearance determine the physical personality of an individual. It is believed that good physical features attract people. Health and endurance help a leader to work hard which inspires others to work with same tempo.
•KNOWLEDGE- A good leader should have required knowledge and competence. Only such person can instruct subordinates correctly and influence them.
INREGRITY- A leader should posses high level of integrity and honesty. He should be role model to others regarding the ethics and values.
INITIATIVES- A leader should have courage and initiative. He should not wait for opportunities come to his way , rather he should grab the opportunities and use it to the advantage of organization.
• COMMUNICATION SKILLS- A leader should be a good communicator. He should have the capacity to clearly explain the ideas and make the people to understand his ideas. He should not only be a good speaker but a good listener, teacher counselor and persuader.
• MOTIVATION SKILLS- A leader should be an effective motivators. He should understand the needs of the people and motivate them through satisfying their needs.
SOCIAL SKILLS- a leader should be sociable and friendly with his colleges and followers. He should understand people and maintain good human relation with them.
SELF CONFIDENCE- A leader should have level of self confidence. He should not loose his confidence even in most difficult times . In fact , if the leader lacks self confidence, he can not provide confidence to the followers.
Styles of LEADERSHIP
The behavioral pattern which a leader adopt in influencing his followers is known as the style of leadership.
Leader ship style is a outcome of leader’s personality , philosophy, experience and value system.
There are four styles of leader ship. 1. Autocratic or authoritarian leadership.2. Participative or democratic leadership3. Free rain leadership.4. Paternalistic leadership.

An autocratic leader is one who likes to run the show himself. He takes all decisions himself without consulting the followers. He gives the orders and insist that they be obeyed.
Advantages1. Quick decision making2. Strong motivation and satisfaction to
the leader .
Disadvantage1. Leads to frustration .2. Lack of opportunity and future
leadership does not develop.

A democratic leader makes decision jointly with his followers . He decentralized authority and allows the group to share his power. He allows the subordinates to express their opinion freely.
Advantage1. Improves the attitude of employees.2. Improves employees morale and reduces
the complaints and also facilitates the development of future leaders.
Disadvantage1. Delay in decision making.2. Participants may not be meaningful unless
the subordinates understand thoroughly the complex problem of the organization.

Free rein leadership gives complete freedom to establishes their own goals and policies. He does not lead and avoid power.
Advantage1. Complete freedom improves motivation
and morale of subordinates.2. Maximum opportunity for
development of subordinates. Disadvantage1. Group does not get inspired by the leader.2. Can be success when followers are highly
mature. and it ignores the managers contribution.
Paternalistic leadership

A paternalistic leadership serves as the head of the family and treats his followers like his family members.
He provides a parental role to help , guide and protect the followers .
He provides them with good working condition, fringe benefits and welfare facility and services.
