R E P O R T for the year 1924 .

Steady progress has still to be recorded in the matters which concern our Guild. Not only have our numbers increased, but new members are coming in from towers not formerly interested in Change Ringing, while several new rings (e.g. St. Mary le Tower, Ipswich, Long Melford, Wilby) have been repaired and made available.

Appeals for help in teaching ringing or re-hanging bells have been received from the following, among others : Buxhall, Metfield, Hartest, Assington, and Hepworth. Instructors have been provided at Preston and Cowlinge, and new bands started, the latter is, I believe, still making good progress.

The list of members will be found to have been differently arranged, in that those who have rung peals are now put in a separate list. It has not been found possible this year to include the numbers of peals rung by members in the former ringing Societies, whether this should be attempted in future issues is for the Guild to decide ; but there are practical difficulties in the way of making such a list correct, and if it is not to be more correct than it has been it would be best omitted.

Last year we were able to record all the new compositions. This year they have been so many that it has only been possible to print those of outstanding interest, but the Ringing Master has inaugurated a book, entitled, the “ S U F F O L K G U IL D C O L L E C T IO N O F C O M PO SIT IO N S ,” in which every new composition will be entered carefully, as it is rung.

The only death among our members . that has been notified is that of Mr. Charles Cutting, of Woodbridge. His health had been gradually failing, and it is long since he rang a peal, but he was always interested in our Guild.— R.I.P.

It is to be hoped that all our members will stir up their District Secretaries to hold meetings in their neighbourhood. Unless this is done the Society cannot do its work. Some of our Secretaries have done splendid work this year. W hy not all ?

Signed on behalf of the Committee,W . T. F A R M IL O E ,

April 13th, 1 9 2 5 . President.

LIST OF PEALS RUNG up to Dec. 31st, 1924..

RINGING MASTER’S REPORT.

The Peals rung by the Guild, as shown on another page,

total go in a good variety of method?.. Thanks to the efforts of

the Leiston and Debenham bands, there is a specially good list

of Surprise peals, no less than eight different kinds of. these

methods having been rung. It is doubtful if any other Ringing

Society in the country can show as good a list.

The peal of Stedman Triples at Lavenham, the first on

these famous bells by a local band, is noted with pleasure,

perhaps this success will prove a stepping stone to higher

things. Another outstanding effort is the London Surprise at

Helmingham, the band are to be congratulated. The first

peal of Stedman ever rung on handbells in the county town is

worthy of note. Our six-bell members have not been quite so

busy in the past year, but perhaps this is only a temporary

lapse, and this year will see a revival.
