ARTS & CRAFTS Cake Decorating This course covers the basics of cake decorating, giving an introduction to different types of icing

& when to use them, colouring, paste, basic flower & shape cutters, basic piping techniques

making and assembling very simple wired flowers.

AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping These bookkeeping courses are ideal for those employed in business, running their own business, or looking for a first step towards accountancy as a profession. Level 1 is suitable for beginners and enables students to be competent in a range of functions in an accounts office. An additional £40 AAT registration fee is required, which allows you to study any AAT Bookkeeping or Computerised Accounts course within 12 months of registration. (Please note: Due to a bank holiday, the class will take place on Weds 4

th May instead of 2

nd May for that week only)

AAT Level 2 Award in Computerised Accounting Exploring the computerised accounts package ‘SAGE’, topics include entering transactions, reconciliations, & correcting errors. You should have completed Bookkeeping Level 1 and have basic computing skills to enrol on this course. Book costs and an additional £40 AAT registration fee may be required, which allows you to study any Bookkeeping or Computerised Accounts AAT course within 12 months of registration.

Embroidery This course is aimed at students who would like to learn to stitch in a friendly environment. The

course focuses on counted stitch, blackwork, canvas work and hardanger and free embroidery.

All ability levels and varieties of embroidery are catered for.

Patchwork This course is aimed at students who would like to learn to patch and quilt. During the course

students will produce small items using a variety of patchwork and quilting techniques.

Creative Textiles For those with an interest in exploring textile techniques, whether a novice

or with some experience. The course will cover batik, heat transfer, appliqué

Drawing and Painting (Beginners) This is a structured drawing and painting course for beginners or people who want to refresh their

basic skills. You will explore the use of variety of drawing media and subjects to develop your

observation and drawing skills.

Drawing and Painting (Improvers) You will explore the use of variety of paint media and subjects to

develop your use of colour and painting skills using a variety of

techniques with the guidance of an experienced and practicing artist.

Oil Painting On this course students will have the opportunity to develop their skills in using oil paints to

tackle a range of subject matters under the guidance of an experienced artist. Suitable for those

who have completed a beginners drawing and painting course and who want individual support

with oil painting techniques.

Life Drawing The course introduces the student to methods of working when drawing

an unclothed model, beginning with enhancing drawing skills and moving

on to other forms of expression. Learn from an experienced tutor to

CHILDCARE & SUPPORTING YOUR CHILDREN

BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Caring for Children This course is an introduction to the vocational knowledge & understanding of working with

children aged 0 – 5 years. This coursework-based qualification covers communication skills with

children, keeping children safe, learning experiences for children & more. An enjoyable course &

stepping stone to a Level 2 qualification. Free if in receipt of JSA/ESA WRAG.

Computing First Steps For people with no previous knowledge or those with only very basic IT

skills. The course covers basic procedures and familiarises you with basic

English Functional Skills Level 1 or 2 English Functional Skills courses (day & evening) will commence later in the year for people to improve their written language skills & presentation techniques to achieve a nationally recognised qualification. We are accepting early applications for this popular course. The Level 2 classes are for people with high level English skills. Call for information & assessment.

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)

These classes are for adults aged 19+ whose first language is not English to help develop English language skills. The course is for 11 weeks for 4 hours per week and students will work towards a Reading qualification. Students in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or ESA (WRAG) are entitled to fee remission. To enrol you should complete a test to identify your level and appropriate class time at our Enrolment session:

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (previously known as PTLLS) The course is suitable for people who are looking to teach in the post-16 sector, or who are already teaching but do not have a teaching qualification. It is also very useful for anyone involved in a training role in business or industry. You do not have to be teaching already to do the course and no teaching hours are required outside of the class. This is an excellent introduction to teaching.

Wine Tasting This short course provides a general introduction to the world of wine and will help you understand labels, wine laws and regulations, grape varieties, how wine is made and, of course, tasting. Samples of wines included in the course fee.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Digital SLR photography for Beginners This course offers an introduction to the Digital SLR camera and the basic concepts, terminology and techniques involved in photography. Both theoretical and practical, the course is a good introduction to photography and to further progress to BTEC level. All students will need to bring their own Digital SLR camera.

Photography Level 1 BTEC Award This course is ideal progression from the Digital SLR Introduction course. Students will develop a set of practical skills using their own digital SLR camera, explore techniques, photographic equipment and materials. There is also a theoretical approach and students will undertake research into the work of photographers.
