Think and Wonder Concert fever is certainly upon us! Our students have been practising regularly and this week we will have our technical and dress rehearsals so that we can test our hall equipment, check that the costumes are all at school and look great and allow the students to get used to their movement on and off the stage. Mrs Bailey and Mr Voorby should be acknowledged for their work on the props and back drops, and Mrs Bell for her overall direction of the show. Thank you to those families that provided some positive feedback on the way that our ticket purchases were managed this year. We were happy to be able to provide a system that gave all parents an equal opportunity to access tickets in the first instance, and then allow beloved extended family members to purchase the remaining tickets. There are still 57 tickets remaining. Our office staff have contributed many hours to setting up the ticket system, working with the booking system staff to monitor progress and providing assistance to families. The students are looking forward to performing ‘Think and Wonder’ for you. We hope you enjoy the show! Lunch Time is Fun too! Drawing on the outdoor rug and playing lego are two of our lunch time activity options.

Maintenance Update A big thank you goes to Craig Bunn for his work finishing off the plumbing work in the outdoor kitchen. He volunteered his time around his work commitments to assist the school in this way. Our sporting field is currently having a rest from little feet so that we can keep the grass in top shape and have it for a really long time. Unfortunately the grass in our support class playground has not survived so we are currently sourcing quotes to lay some artificial turf in part of this playground. Attendance Attending school is important for student learning and development of social skills, contributing to improved long term outcomes beyond school. This is apart from the fact that the teachers enjoy having your children at school and are excited to watch them learn and grow! The Home School Liaison Officer visits our school regularly to monitor attendance patterns and provide support to our school to address any concerns and to implement any strategies that may improve attendance for some students. Notes were sent home to the families of students who did not achieve 90% attendance and have not provided explanation, or those who are beginning to show a pattern on non-attendance. Please see information about compulsory school attendance attached to the bulletin. Peer Support In Term 3 each year our whole school participates in the Peer Support Program. This year, the program is focusing on relationships. The outcomes of the program are to promote healthier relationships, a positive school culture and improve student wellbeing, which are achieved through :

• providing students with social and emotional knowledge and skills • partnering with parents to develop a shared language for guiding students through emotional responses

and interactions with others • supporting teachers to value student voice; and involve students in decisions about their school and

learning

Each week our Stage 3 students participate in training with Mr Lewis and Ms Harris and they then go on to lead small groups of students from K-6 through a series of activities that promote the focus for that week. These students are doing an amazing job and are displaying outstanding leadership skills. The focus of the photos below was ‘Trust’.

Student Achievements and Activities

Last week Flynn, Layla and Evie attended the Hunter Region Creative and Performing Arts Camp. These students were identified as displaying a talent and interest in either drama, art, dance or music. Congratulations for your selection.

Yesterday at assembly the Macquarie Cup soccer players were presented with a medal acknowledging their participating in the weekly sport competition at Speers Point Park. The students always displayed great sportsmanship through the competition and represented our school with pride. Well done to all players and a special thank you to the parents who were able to assist with transport every week.

Congratulations to Jude who is continuing to achieve well at gymnastics. He came 2nd in the Hunter Championships and 5th overall at State Clubs.

Our Year 6 students will be spending the day at Kahibah PS on Friday for the Year 6 Leadership Day. This activity is organised for the primary schools in the Whitebridge Community of Schools. The students will meet other Year 6 students who they may be going to high school with next year, meet some of the high school staff and students and participate in some fun team building activities and learn about resilience through a wonderful guest speaker, Mike Rolls.

Have a great week everyone!

Tree of Values Our students are in the middle of a 4 week focus on the value of democracy in our Tree of Values program. At CEPS we accept and promote the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of being an Australian citizen. Last week we challenged students to make some personal learning goals for themselves in an effort to experience ownership and accountability in learning. This week we are exploring how learning from one another can celebrate our value of democracy. Our end of term Principal’s Lunch is not far away and we encourage all

our students to keep doing positive things to earn smiley awards for a chance to join the table! Thank you so much for your support in our valuable program Mrs Lloyd, Mrs Bell and Mrs Bailey

We hope everyone has their updated menus with product and price changes. We have also identified our everyday and occasional items. Thank you to all the students and parents for your support with these changes. The students enjoyed our fresh food Tuesday, we had great feedback on the corn fritters and the chicken pesto pasta. These days are to encourage students to try something new and to use some of the delicious produce that is growing in our schools garden. We will be using some of the recipes that are in the newsletter so parents can make these at home. Fresh Food Tuesdays will continue in Term 4 – the first Tuesday of every month. Thank you to Julie Lewis for all of your help on this day. At this stage we are still unable to acquire gluten free chicken nuggets, this is a production issue. However, we still have gluten free chicken tenders available for $1. Could you please remind your children to hand their lunch orders in by 9.15am this is very important especially on Fridays with large numbers of orders. Rosters for next term are almost done, we are still in need of volunteers for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you are able to help please fill in the canteen volunteer note, further on in this newsletter, and leave in the office. Leila Finch and the Canteen committee

We were threatened by rain but our K-2 outdoor planting day went ahead with clear skies, big smiles and lots of fun. Our students participated in numerous gardening and outdoor activities. 2C tested their engineering skills with an interesting looking stick and rope zip line. 1H, KM and KB made some amazing seed spheres using compost, flour, water and seeds - you might even see these for sale at our next garden market so you can watch them sprout at home. K1/T made a delicious seasonal salad harvesting fresh produce from our garden. They also made some organic bug sprays using a variety of kitchen ingredients so we can protect the new seedlings we planted from some unwanted pests. Also 2F assembled some new wheelbarrows for us and made some pretty spectacular leaf bunting. The day could not have been as successful as it was thanks to the wonderful helpers we had on the day. Thank you Jill, Rebecca, Ali, Ro, Hannah, Emma, Sarah, Vicki and Taya.

Mrs Burgess and KB have been investigating our garden lately and looking at paddock to plate. Over the next two weeks KB will be harvesting fresh produce from our garden and making some delicious tabouli. Keep an eye out to see when this seasonal salad goes on sale. But you'll have to be quick - last time it was a sell out!

We are still looking for someone to help run the monthly garden stall that coincides with the cake stall. Please contact Maree at [email protected] if you would like further information.
