Century BCE.Major Beliefs and Teachings

• Dharma and Karma.• Reincarnation• Rejects the Caste System. Anyone, regardless of their place in

society, could achieve enlightenment if they realized the FourNoble Truths and followed the Eightfold Path.

• The 4 Noble Truths:• Life is suffering.• Suffering is caused by desire.• To end suffering, one must end desire.• To end suffering, follow the Eightfold Path.

• The Eightfold Path is used to eliminate desire and suffering. The Eightfold Path is the moral code of conduct for Buddhists, similar to the Ten Commandments in Judaism and Christianity.

Ultimate Goals • Reach nirvana after death which is to escape from the cycle of reincarnation. This can be accomplished by reaching a state of enlightenment like the Buddha did through intense meditation.Statue of the reclining Buddha in Gal

– Both Hindus and Buddhists believe that there are seven major chakras located along the spinal cord and top of your head. (They believe that there are 88,000 total.)

– Each of the seven major chakras is associated with a specific color, shape, organ, natural element, deity, and mantra.

– The most important chakras are located at the base of the spine and top of the head.
