First and foremost, to be very honest teacher isnot a career that I dreamt during my childhood.

But, after I got the opportunity to further my

studies in the area of education and not to forget

the practicum that I have undergone for threemonths, it has made me feel the ecstasy in the

world of teaching. Thereafter, I started to love

    my careerand understand that teachers

greatest gift is the achievement of his/herstudent. Last but not least, Im feeling proud to

be part of this such noble profession that

constantly nurtured the students and society.16 Oktober 2015

Honestly , "TEACHER" is not my ambition. I choose tobecome a teacher at the beginning because i think that

teacher have lots of free time to do all the things they

like. In the end, I am being cheated. Teacher nowadays

is not easy and free as what i think. Sometimes, teacherworks longer time compare to other jobs. Meanwhile, I

started to like this job because teacher is challenging

job as we need to face different kinds of human and

different situations everyday. The most precious moment

as a teacher is when seeing our pupils changed theirattitudes after being educated. The most important thing

is, as a teacher, our job is to educate pupils not teaching

    them only.

I chose to became a teacher, because I

want to be a part of the future. I want to

develop, upgrade and contribute to my

society. I want to help and take care of mycountry's future. I will love to open the

dreams window for some one I can see

the happiness in his/her eyes later.

    What are the similarities?

    Teaching culture

Teaching and research are not antithetical, but

    mutually enhancing.

Teaching and learning are broader than what

occurs in the classroom; teaching and learningextend across school and out into the

    community.

Teaching should be responsive to contexts

    (discipline, subject, class). Some teaching

strategies transfer from one discipline to

another; other teaching strategies are better

    developed within a specific discipline.16 Oktober 2015

    Teaching culture

Teaching requires multiple forms and levels of

    evaluation (including assessing the teachers

    teaching and the students

    learning.

Teaching is strengthened by peer collaborationand review, collegial exchange, and

    communities of discourse.

Teaching is enriched by the diversity of

    perspectives, approaches, ideas, and

experiences, enhancing the intellectual vitality of

    the campus.

    12/31

    Teaching culture

    Learning is multidirectional and reciprocal;

students learn from their teachers, from their

peers, from course materials, and academic

support services. Learning to teach is a continuous process of

development experimentation, ongoing practice, reflection, peer

conversations, and assessment take place effectively

this process needs to be supported by appropriate programs and

an infrastructure of communication and collaboration.

    Therefore

Teaching culture is developed to meet specific

needs, important, but so stable support, ongoing

communication, and enhanced visibility so thatthe school community knows about and can

learn from the array of programs, policies, and

    services.

    Challenges

    1. Live classrooms!

    2. Managing the internet

    3. We need to tell our stories

    4. Information communication planning

    16 Oktober 2015

  • 7/23/2019 Lecture 5 - Cultures of Teaching

    27/31

    1. Live cameras in every classroom

If you have live video in every classroom at every school

and any family at any give time can log on and watch the

    teacher teach:

What do you think the impact will be on education?

What will be the good and the bad things that happen

if we connect our families and communities live to

    classrooms?

Do you think every teacher will embrace this idea with

    equal enthusiasm?

    16 Oktober 2015

  • 7/23/2019 Lecture 5 - Cultures of Teaching

    28/31

    2. If its on the Internet, is it

true? In every subject there ought to be a standard exercise of

presenting students with different versions of the truth

and asking them if they know how to discriminate among

them because students now have access to more

information. And the ease of using the technology canlull you into not thinking. So teach them to think and

    discriminate responsibility!

One alternative to teach children to really think about the

Internet is to teach them to construct Web sites becauseWeb design is the equivalent in the digital world.

    3. We need to tell our stories!

We need to honour the knowledge and wisdom

of teachers. Teachers dont know how special

    they are.

They wouldnt know because they dont have acollective sense.

One alternative is to document teachers

    experiences as collective knowledge and

    wisdom.

    4. Dont do technology plans!

    What technologyshould we buy to

    improve

    learning?

    What informationdo you want?

    What relationships

    do you want?

    Identify the priority!
