LPOV Description of ProgramSuccessful leaders want the people they support and depend on to win. Key to this is your ability to create an environment of trust, and trust begins with mutual understanding. A valuable tool for achieving trust on the basis of understanding is your ability to communicate your “Leadership Point-of-View” (LPOV).
The LPOV is your personal “elevator pitch”—it describes your own journey, your learnings and insights, your goals and your expectations. Armed with this message, leaders are able to quickly and efficiently establish a deep, trusting relationship with their teammates and increase their chances of building a strong followership.
Margie Blanchard will share with you how to craft your own leadership point of view so you can share it with the people and teams you lead.

4 WAY TEST
For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do
As Rotarians, we should have The Four-Way Test in mind in every decision we make, all day long. Our utmost responsi-bility is to Speak The Truth, to Be Fair, to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships, and to do our very best in all situations.
4 Way Test was developed in 1932 by
Herbert J. Taylor.
---- 1 ---- Is it the TRUTH?
---- 2 ----Is it FAIR to all concerned?
---- 3 ----
Will it build GOODWILL and
better FRIENDSHIPS?
---- 4 ----Will it be BENEFICIAL
to all concerned?

President Brett called our meeting to order and welcomed ROTD, Linda Andrews who encouraged as all to adopt the Rotary values as life service and not lip service. Linda who is a Broker with Coldwell Banker has spent 28 years in real estate. She also discov-ered the International Skiing Fellowship within Rotary this year which took her on a weeklong alpine adventure to Winter Park, Colorado.
Will Moore introduced a large number of guests including (but not limited to): San Diego Police Chief Shelley ZimmermanLt. Charles LaraMary Keane (Bill Keane’s wife)Leticia (Letty) Schmitten (Ron Kohl’s girlfriend)Charlie Hogan UCSD Rotaractors Patrick Wu & Alan YeungLisa Miller from the Down-town ClubJennifer Schaefer (friend of Kathleen Tansey)Dr. Douglas A. Brown (San-dra Scherf’s significant other)Jack Lander & someone else (both friends of Brett Morey)Jake Moore (Will Moore’s son)
ANNOUNCEMENTS:Ellen Bryson announced the suc-cessful completion of the Easter Basket Project for Door of Hope at Sharp Hos-pital. There will be a Spring Fling social mixer and prospective member event at Frost Hardwood on Thursday, May 15th. Alex Monroe will be leading the Ro-tarians at Work Day on Saturday, April 26th (8am-12pm) for clean-up and land-scape work at the Nobel Athletic Field & Rec. Center. It is also worth noting that Alex was absent this morning due to the arrival of the youngest addition to the Monroe family. Apparently his 2 min-ute contribution in the production phase
has yielded excellent results. Our best wishes to Alex and Samantha! Su-san Schwartz introduced two Paul Harris recipients. Bill Keane received his first Paul Harris pin (and was photo-graphed by his wife, Mary). Ron Kohl was awarded his 5th Paul Harris (which is a pin with 4 sapphires on it accord-ing to Pete Griffith) which he dedi-cated to his girlfriend Leticia (Letty) Schmitten. Letty was subsequently recognized by Chief Zimmerman for her crisis intervention volunteer work with the San Diego Police Department.
Brett recognized Kevin Carlson for his tremendous effort in making the Fam-ily Justice Center project a successful re-ality. This project is dedicated to the late Stu Brown who was charter member of our Club.
Chief Shelley Zimmerman was made honorary member of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club. She ex-pressed her sincere appreciation and drew a parallel between the shared val-ues of the San Diego Police Department and Rotary represented through “Service Above Self”.
We were treated to another Rick Clark Productions’ masterpiece documenting
the hands-on work and transformation of the Family Justice Center.
Our speaker was Lieutenant Charles Lara who is head of the San Diego Police Department Family Justice Center (FJC). Lt. Lara spoke passion-ately about how much it meant to him and his department, as well as the population they serve, to receive the kind of help and upgrades to their facility. The 22,000 sq. ft. office serves as a beacon of hope for the people in the worst possible mo-ments of their life. That includes fielding over 9000 phone calls and taking more than 8000 visits from San Diegans who have been victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalk-ing, and bullying. The FJC was founded
in 2002 and is the first center of its kind. It is the culmination of a singular vi-
sion to meet all of domestic violence victims’ needs in a single location. The groundbreaking work done at the Family Justice Center has be-come a model for the country and
the world for co-located services with law enforcement, prosecution,
and victim services in one place. Real progress is being made. Last year there were only 3 homicides recorded in San Diego County as a result of domestic vio-lence- the lowest number ever recorded. Still the need is great. During a lifetime 1 of 4 women in the US will be victims of domestic abuse at some point.
At the end of his presentation, Lt. Lara apologized to President Brett for going over the budgeted presentation time. Brett was quick to point out that because Lt. Lara had a gun he could go as long as he wanted. Obviously this was not Brett’s first rodeo.
The meeting was adjourned after a short video providing us with a more in-depth understanding of fracking and the risks of being fracked - courtesy of Ron Kohl.

DAVIDTANSEYDavid Tansey became a psychologist after a two-year career as a Chemical Engi-neer and a 13-year career as CEO of a family company manufacturing aircraft control pul-leys and thermoset molded plastics. He has now been licensed for 36 years as a Clinical Psychologist.
He is a partner and Research Director at Hanbleceya, a therapeutic community for se-riously mentally ill adults many of whom have a co-diagnosis of substance abuse.Hanbleceya provides an intense treatment program, a place to live, education or a job, and hope for recovery. The goal of the treat-ment is to assist patients in developing the skills to function as independently as they can learn to be.
Basic to the program is a loving, safe, struc-tured environment where participants can see and practice integrity, responsibility, openness, self-soothing, and self-discovery. They are helped to avoid passivity, prac-tice supportive confrontation, distinguish response from reaction, be aware of the thought processes that support maladaptive behavior, and find both support and acknowl-edgment for their healing journey.
Dr. Tansey has presented papers about Hanbleceya’s program to the International Society for the Psychological Treatments of
