HIKING AND HORSEBACK RIDING Miles of scenic hiking and riding trails can be found on the east and west sides of the lake, just north of the parking areas. Hikers are permitted in all areas of the park except the restricted area at the dam (see map).PICNICKING Picnic sites with barbecues are provided in many areas. Ground fires are not permit-ted. Fires are permitted only in personal cooking units. For large groups, weekend reservations may be made by the Wednesday prior to the weekend; weekday reservations may be made 72 hours in advance. Phone 1-888-327-2757, option 2. Please see these areasbefore reserving. Reservable picnic areas are ArroyoMocho, Oak Point, Coyote Corner, Fiesta Grande,Agua Vista, Beach View, Cedar Mountain View, SchoolHouse Flats, Shady Oak, Lichen Bark, Gray Pine, VistaDel Lago, and Valley Oak. See map at left for locations.FISHING Fishing is prime at Del Valle during winter, with regular trout plants from October through May by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and trophy plants supported by the Park District’s fishing permit program. Largemouth and smallmouth bass bite well in the spring and summer, as do a variety of panfish. A California state fishing license with stamps (available at most sport and bait shops) and an EBRPD Daily Fishing Access Permit are required for all anglers age 16 and above. Daily permits may be purchased at the park entrance kiosk or the marina. Senior Fish-ing Access Permits, good for one year, are available to those age 62 and above. Fishing is permitted only during posted park operating hours. NO FISHING is permit-ted in the streams entering the lake except during the regular state trout season (see State Regulations fishing booklet). The limit is five fish per day, per person.BOATING Be prepared for a mandatory boat inspec-tion to protect the lake against zebra and quagga mussel infestation. All watercraft must be off the lake at the boat ramp one hour BEFORE the park closes. Private vehicles left in the parking lot after closing may be cited and/or towed. LAKE SPEED LIMIT ON THE WATER IS 10 MPH.
Any size boat is allowed, but PERSONAL WATERCRAFT ARE NOT ALLOWED. Boats, operators, and passengers must meet and observe all applicable Coast Guard, state, and federal safety requirements. Watercraft must be registered. The water level at Lake Del Valle fluctuates seasonally. These fluctuations cause boating hazards due to considerable variations in the shoreline, therefore this map should not be used for navigation purposes. Food, bait and tackle, firewood, and rental boats are available at the eastside boat launch area. A tour boat offers tours of the lake featuring the natural and cultural history of this manmade reservoir. For information on watercraft rental, phone (925) 449-5201 (boats/canoes/paddleboats) or (510) 440-8888 (kayak/paddleboard).SWIMMING Swimming is permitted SOUTH of the boat ramp IN DESIGNATED AREAS ONLY as shown on the map. Lifeguards are on duty as posted in the park. Swimming is permitted NORTH of the boat ramp, although no lifeguards are on duty. SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK. Children should not swim or wade without adult supervision.CAMPING Drive-in family campsites are avail-able by reservation year-round for tent camping and motor homes. Some sites have hookups for water, sewage, and electrical (50 amp). The campground has restrooms, hot showers, picnic tables, open areas, and connections to park trails. For reservations up to 12 weeks in advance, call 1-888-327-2757, option 2. Organized group camping is permitted by reservation only. Make reservations at least three days in advance by phoning 1-888-327-2757, option 2. See reverse side for locations and individual group camp descriptions. Axes, hatchets, and saws are NOT permitted; bring your own pre-cut firewood, first-aid kit, and drinking water. Build fires only in the fire pits provided. Picnic tables and toilets are provided. DO NOT attach or tie anything to trees, including hammocks and swings. All campers with water craft must go to boat inspection prior to checking into the campground.NATURALIST-LED PROGRAMS See the sched-ule on park bulletin boards, or see www.ebparks.org.
