airspace at digital speeds creating a forcefield-like effect or

precisely target a single system in tight, crowded blue force and

urban terrain environments. With software-defined waveforms

and frequency agile transmission, Leonidas can accomplish

numerous missions with the same hardware: counter UAS, counter

swarm, vehicle and vessel stop, and other counter electronics

missions along with its ability to adapt to the always evolving

threats

KEY FEATURES:

• Swarm Defeat: allows for simultaneous targeting and

engagement of multiple UAS, allowing for the conservation of

kinetic interceptors

• Precision Defeat: digitally beamformed antenna optimizes

power on target while drastically reducing power in the

surrounding space

• Dynamic No-fly Zones: programmable no-fly zones permit

friendly UAS flight within proximity of targeted adversary UAS

• Interoperability: open system architecture integrates with FAAD

C2 and eventually Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Air and

Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS) command-and-

control (C2) systems

• Rapid Fire: Capable of pulsing 1000s of times per second in

precision fire or swarm modes

LEONIDAS

Next-generation High Power Microwave (HPM) utilizing

a solid-state design that delivers unparalleled digital

beamforming and instant engagement to counter multiple

unmanned systems simultaneously.

Increasingly capable hostile unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are

quickly proliferating across the battlefield and regions of near-

peer competition. These systems pose a direct threat to U.S. Forces

and allied forces. Deterring and defeating these threats requires

a layered defense approach comprised of open-architecture

technology that can pace with autonomous threats as they

evolve.

To counter these evolving threats, Northrop Grumman and Epirus

have formed a strategic partnership and introduce Leonidas,

a revolutionary HPM system designed to protect Forward

Operating Bases, fixed sites, and maneuver forces against hostile

UAS. Leonidas is a cutting-edge UAS defeat capability that is fully

integrated with Northrop Grumman’s FAAD C2 system.

C-UAS CAPABILITY: LEONIDAS

Leonidas is a revolutionary solid-state HPM system that features

novel digital beamforming. Through this capability, Leonidas’

directed energy beam can sweep through entire volumes of

LEONIDAS’ VALUE TO WARFIGHTER:

• Efficient Size, Weight, and Power compared to current

traditional HPM systems

• Scalable HPM approach allows for easy adaptation; system

can be configured for mounted or dismounted operations as

required

• Exceeds current High-Power Microwave Transportability

Requirements: Highway, Rail, Air (C130, C17, rotary via sling), and

Marine

• Quick setup in under 30 minutes

• Continuous fire mode, or pulsed as required

• Frequency agility enables configuration control for diverse

target sets

• Ease of maintenance/compactness; requires minimal soldier

contact

• Addresses wide instantaneous area (digital beam sweeping,

multiple beams)

• Blue force protection (places nulls in energy, frequency lock

outs, small signature outside of beam)

• Field-upgradable range via line-replaceable amplifier

modules (LRAMs)

• Operator Safety: low operating voltage and solid-state design

prevent harmful emissions

INTEGRATION WITH FAAD C2

FAAD C2 is the Army Program of Record that is a battle-proven C2

system, deployed in several theaters of operation for the C-UAS,

C-RAM (Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar), and Short

Range Air Defense missions for its proven performance. FAAD

C2 is extremely versatile and allows for easy integration with

Leonidas into the FAAD system of systems along with other

effectors, existing sensors and warning systems to launch rapid,

real-time defense against short range and maneuvering threats.

FAAD C2 has also been recently selected as the Department of

Defense’s interim C2 system to counter small drones and as the

C2 system for the Army’s Initial Maneuver Short Range Air Defense

(IM-SHORAD) platforms.
