What is perception checking? Making sure what you believe is happening truly is

happening. Asking someone if your inferences are correct. Trying to figure what was meant, and not assuming you

understand a situation.

Why is perception checking important? Perception checking help avoid confusion and

misunderstandings Helps avoid anger and frustration Allows people to share their feelings and frustrations in a

positive way. Helps end conflicts before they begin, and promotes self-

efficacy.
