Starter Activity

10 minutes

Use powerpoint ‘simple chemical reactions part 1’

• Give two students in the front to hand out worksheets.

• Task 1: give students 1 minute to define the two keywords

• Reveal answers- ask for a show of hands if students got this correct. Tell them to correct their definition.

• While students are doing Q.2 in task 1 teacher does the register!

• Ask students to do Task 2: give them 1 minute to define the keywords, then reveal answers.

• Then ask pupils to think of 3-5 things that they may observe in a chemical reaction- do a mind map on white board- ask for whole class feedback.

Planned Activities for Main Part of the Lesson.

40 minutes

• Give students to hand out worksheet- Part 2- chemical reactions

• Go over lab safety- ask students to tell you the lab rules.

• Explain what students need to do, demonstrate the first one- but do not go over observation let them discover this.

• Because of limited stock sort out a system for students- to allow rotation of chemicals.

• Give plenty of time to pack away.

Literacy

When students are answering questions, make sure they write proper sentences.
