Stage Procedure Time Aim/Purpose

Intro

Explain Tenner Challenge competition, reasons behind the mini-

workshop, and the different stages (all provided on PowerPoint)

Go over lesson objectives

5 mins

Ensure that students understand the structure of the workshop, that each

person will take a lead role, the skills they will develop, and how they will

come in useful.

Warm-up

Activity

Could you be an entrepreneur?

Students stand by the ‘business success’ quote they most agree

with.

Students come up with their own version of what makes a business

successful.

Reflection questions.

10-25

mins

To clarify their own understanding of successful businesses and the aspects

they feel are most important.

Activity

Product Development

In teams, students come up with the product they can sell, with an

emphasis on sustainability.

Each team should select a lead person to manage this task and

ensure it’s adequately completed. Students sketch their product

ideas and illustrate the key selling points. They also choose and

decorate their packaging from the available box templates.

Reflection questions.

10-20

mins

To develop students’ understanding of product design, the importance of

sustainability and unique selling points, and the impact of packaging (on

customers as well as the environment).

Activity

Pricing and Finance

Students answer questions on the PowerPoint in groups.

A new lead should be selected that’s responsible for managing the

task. Students come up with the price of their product and any

offers they could make.

Reflection questions.

Recommended end of lesson one; collect students’ work.

10-20

mins

To develop students’ understanding of the various costs involved in running

a business, allow them to grasp new terms such as ‘profit margin’, and

apply their mathematical skills in a business context in order to make a

profit.

15-25

mins

To develop students’ understanding of the

importance of brand identity and apply their

creativity and imagination (both visually and

verbally) in a business context with the aim of

creating a distinct and eye-catching product.

Activity

Sales and Marketing

Students come up with a visual for their

website or market stand and a 15

second opening script they could use

when trying to make sales at their stall.

A new lead should be selected.

Students collate all their work to present

it in the class, perhaps in the form of an

infomercial (see PowerPoint role play

suggestions).

20-30

mins

To develop students’ communication skills in

getting across the key aspects of their business in
