EXPERIMENT: Use a light source (flashlight, iphone flashlight, lamp, sunlight) then put a piece of paper

on a surface. Place an object in front of the light source (crayon, scissor, small toy, etc). Trace the

shadow on the paper. *Challenge someone to guess what the shadow is.

You can move the object closer or further from the light source to see if the shadow changes.

Phonics: Read long vowel sounds. safe, Pete, pine, home, mule, rule

Build the Word of the Day: rules

**Video lesson on long vowel words. / I can read and write words with long vowels.

Listen to dictated sentences and write them in your notebook. Underline the words with

silent e at the end.

There is a cave by the lake. /The other grapes are bad. / She has the best smile.

Reading/Writing: Read the story: Jake the Whale. Make a list of vowel consonant –e words

from the story.

Jake the Whale

Jake the whale was very big. He had many whale friends.

They would all ride the waves.

One time, Jake and his friends were out on the waves

And Jake dove down into the sea. He went to hide,

And his friends did not see where he went.

They could not get him. “I think that Jake is lost!”

said one of his friends.

But Jake was not lost at all. He did a flip and a jump

and was back with his other whale friends.

They all swam into the big waves and had fun.
