I've seen Larry Cafuro in committee hearings. He's partisan to the core. It's clear that he's using his position onthe committee in a shameless attempt to gerrymander Democrats out and Republicans in. Put a stop to thisbrazen attempt.

As a person that was born in, raised and educated in Bridgeport, I find this redistricting effort to be adeplorable and blatant act of bigotry against the poor and disenfranchised and specifically against the minoritygroups that make up a large portion of the Bridgeport population. Republicans should not and will notcontinue to be allowed to perpetrate the marginalization of the middle and lower classes for political ormonetary gain. If Republicans want a Republican dominated district in Fairfield County, they should startmaking huge changes within their party that would embrace these groups and start making efforts to win themover with good policy that serves all people, not just those that can maximize campaign contributions orspecial interest kickbacks. This war against the 99% has awoken a beast that has been sleeping for 30 years. The state of Bridgeport is the result of bad conservative policy. Policy that Republicans will continue to payfor at the voting booth. Governor Malloy, I deeply suggest that you consider disallowing this gerrymanderingeffort to pass. Every motion against the poor and middle classes of this country emboldens our resolve.Choose to be on the right side of history, choose the people and the people will carry you on their shoulders.

I thought the days of racial gerrymandering were over. This is Connecticut, not Alabama. The folks inBridgeport need to have their voices heard separately, not just lumped in with the other people who are notfortunate enough to live in the wealthy towns of Fairfield County. Shame on the Republicans, although whatcan you expect from the party of Newt Gingrich?

I am outraged to be informed that Connecticut would consider gerrymandering Bridgeport out of the 4thCongressional District! Bridgeport is part of Fairfield County, and as the lines of the 4th District are presentlythose of most of Fairfield County to exclude Bridgeport from the 4th Congressional District would be aviolation of the principals of constitutionally fair, reasonable and appropriate districting. The only reason forredistricting would be to throw the 4th District into the control of Republicans, and that alone is insufficientbasis upon which to redistrict. Do not redistrict Bridgeport! For State Democrats toaccuse State Republicans of gerrymandering would be the pot calling the kettle black many times over.Considering there is no republican official elected to higher office in CT, I certainly understand theRepublican leaders argument that the current governmental structure is not balanced to represent its populace. However, Bridgeport belongs in the 4th. The Federal census Bureau officially recognizes Bridgeport as part of Southwestern Fairfield County SMSA.They arrive at this by very strong methodology. Nothing that the Reapportionment Commission could comeup with could possibly negate the way the census arrived at their determination. Bridgeport is part of theStamford Bridgeport area SMSA. Leave Bridgeport as is. There is no statistical justification to movebridgeport to the new haven congressional district.

It is time for the political parties in this nation to be called to task for continuing to engage in...oh, never mind,I had been on the verge of suggesting that Politicians stop engaging in politically motivated ideals, however,I'm old enough to realize that this is a pipe dream. Let's just make it simple: political vermin in the Republicanparty need to be called to task for their subtle methodologies of control and undisciplined, unculturedbarbarism against the population. Furthermore, I would be joining this petition, if the shoe were on the other, proverbial foot and this were being carried out by Democrats. I'm registered as an independent voter, forprecisely this reason: power corrupts, and the allure of power is corrosive, precisely because the constituencyrefuses to become aware of much of the mendacity and mediocrity permeating BOTH political parties in thisnation. www.alphaholism.com

Keep Bridgeport in the 4th Congressional District. To put the 2 largest cities in CT is just plain wrong andpolitical opportunism gone ridiculous. How convienent for Republicans to cry and demand this changebelieving an alignment with wealthy Fairfield Cty Republicans will be a good move and shoving all the lowerclasses together in the 3rd district super great for them is such an ugly obvious move. The 4th has hadrepublican reps in Congress many times before so that shouldnt be the desiding reason, Time for theRepublicans to see about changing their values so that all people are given opportunities and credits in thefuture 4th district. Way to ugly and obvious a play for power.

Bridgeport is a significant and historically important part of Fairfield County. There is no justifiable reason toallow this proud city to be coupled with New Haven, which is about 20 miles away except the blatantlypartisan goal of making the truncated remains of Fairfield County a solid, impenetrable Republican bunker. We have suffered too much in recent history from blind Republican partisan politics. The ReapportionmentCommission should not carve out Bridgeport and pretend its population belongs with New Haven. The twocities are more than 20 miles apart. Fairfield County voters need to speak with a single voice on Election Dayas they always have: the voice of the 4th Congressional District.. The proximity of the towns and cities ofFairfield means that our future is irrevocably shared. Thus our votes belong in the same pot so our legislatorscan properly represent the needs and dreams of all the people in Southwestern Fairfield County. when they goto Washington DC. KEEP BRIDGEPORT IN THE 4th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. Gerrymandering ofthe city of Bridgeport cannot be allowed to happen,

The towns and cities in this district are contiguous in more than geography; the political, educational, social, and civic lives of the residents of this district are linked in many ways. When I was a resident of Bridgeport(for 18 years), I found that my orientation, like that of all the other residents I knew, was toward Fairfield,Westport, Norwalk, and Stamford; I rarely went to, or thought of, New Haven or its suburbs. The 4th Districthas been an entity for as long as we have districted the state. Much as I like and respect Rosa DeLauro, I donot see the concerns of her district as reflecting or representing the concerns of Bridgeport. I am a Democrat, but even if I were not, I would resent any redistricting that has as its clear single purpose to switch a districtfrom one party to another.

It isn't until it's local that the effects of such redistricting elsewhere become so real. There is NO healthyreason that could motivate removing Bridgeport from the 4th Congressional, just a lot of logical reasons whydoing so would result in material advantage for the most advantaged in our society. Make no mistake: I'm oneof them. I'm just not so selfish or cynical about the political process that I'd wish to jettison Bridgeport.

Do we change the county a city is in because of population shifts? Yes, FairfieldCounty's Stratford is in New Haven's 3rd Congressional District, but maybe that is wrong too.

There is no need for redistricting. History has shown this district to be well represented by both Republicansand Democrats over the past century, and there is absolutely no need to tinker with it in order to allow oneparty to mastermind a short-term - and short-sighted - grab for power that voters such as me WILL rememberthe next time a perhaps-worthy Republican candidate tosses his or her hat into the ring the next time the seat isopen. Please hear this, and hear it well: KEEP BRIDGEPORT IN THE 4TH CONGRESSIONALDISTRICT!!! Thank you, Dana Hunt

I urge you to keep Bridgeport part of the 4th Congressional District. We need to insure that Bridgeport isproperly heard and represented and as part of the district that includes the towns that consider it their neighborit would make sense to leave it with the southern towns where it is rather than lump it into a more northerndistrict with a different set perspective. Bridgeport has enough problems and keeping it as "one of our own" itis better able to receive assistance and work with the more affluent Fairfield county towns that are so active inhelping it to survive.

The unabashed attempt at a concentration of wealth and power is quite evident here. Keep Bridgeport in the 4th District!
franey donovanwilton, CTDec 9, 2011
The purpose is to create a safe district for the top 1 percent. All across the country in a myriad of ways the FarRight is endeavoring to undermine democracy and thwart thew ill of the majority.

There is no population shift that justifies this attempt at gerrymandering. The only motivation is to make the4th District LESS competitive.

I originated this petition because I strongly believe Bridgeport needs to stay in the 4th District.
