Cents-Off Program

Frequently Asked Questions1. What is the Cents-Off Program? Established in 1987, the CENTS-OFF Program is a payroll deduction program whereby the cents

from your pay cheque are donated to the Foundation and used to assist vulnerable students in TCDSB schools. (i.e. Pay amount: $798.22 Deduction: $0.22. Pay amount to employee: $798.00).

2. How do I enrol? It’s simple! Fill out a “CENTS-OFF” form and the pennies will be deducted from your bi-weekly

paycheque.

3. Who has access to my payroll information? Through the TCDSB Payroll Department’s computer-generated software, the computer will

automatically deduct the pennies from your paycheck.

4. What information is screened in order for me to enrol in this program? Payroll requires your SAP Employee Number in order to enter your information into the system.

5. Why should I donate the pennies from my paycheck? Over 1,500 TCDSB staff participate in this program and together have a huge impact on the

Foundation. That’s great news, because they are rounding off their paycheques to help transform the lives of vulnerable students. We’d like to see that number grow because we know first-hand

the power of pennies to help offer all students an opportunity to thrive. Together we can raise approximately $120,000 annually though the pennies that you contribute

.

6. How are the pennies from my paycheque put to use? Once you are enrolled, the cents portion of every pay is directed to The Angel Foundation for

Learning, where it is used to support student nutrition programs, the social work emergency fund, bursaries and educational enrichment for students in need. The amount collected from each employee usually adds up to on average $10 a year. When your T4 slip arrives at tax time, your donation will be listed and can be claimed as a deduction, reducing the actual cost of your gift.

7. What percentage of the pennies are going directly to the students supported by The Angel Foundation for Learning?

8. Can I donate more than just the “cents” from my paycheck? Yes! Simply indicate on the CENTS-OFF form the additional dollar amount that you would like to

have deducted from your bi-weekly paycheque.

9. Is there a way to opt out of the program? Should you decide the program is not for you, you can always opt out.
