Lacing Cards

Children love lacing cards. You have the option of printing up color or b & w cards to color yourself. You can print up the color lacing cards, cut out on the dotted line, laminate, and punch holes around the card using a hole punch. Give the children lacing strings, yarn or shoe laces to lace the cards. The b & w set can also be used as an additional craft for the children. Give each child one of the cards, have them color and cut out. Have an adult punch holes, and they can lace using the above options of string. Recognizing the Letter "A" Introduce the letter "A" to the children by showing them the written word "Apple" and helping them to see that it begins with an "A". Cut a large apple shape out of paper and write the letter "A" on it. Have the children tear or cut out magazine pictures beginning with the letter "A" and then glue the pictures on the apple shape.

For the angel’s body, cut out a large triangle from white construction paper. From pink construction paper cut out a circle for the head. Glue to the tip of the triangle. Have the children dip their hands in white paint and make hand prints of each hand on light blue construction paper for wings. Cut them out when dry. Glue to back of body. Add facial features with colored markers. Add a gold pipe cleaner for a halo.

Get a box or container with cover. Label the container A a Container. Place items in the A a container that begin with the letter A.

Look for small toy items at $1.00 stores that start with the letter A. Make sure items are not to small to prevent choking for smaller children. Use A a Box container when introducing the letter A to the children.


Ants on An Apple

Cut out a big letter A shape for each child (or use the following sheet), and let them make ant prints all over it with their fingerprints and a stamp pad. Give them a small tip marker to draw in some legs.

I'm A Little Airplane (Sung to: “I'm a Little Teapot”)

I'm a little airplane,

(children raise arms at sides to shoulder height.) Now watch me fly!

(They spin one of their arms in front of them as if it were a propeller)

Here are my instruments From down low to up high.

(With their other arm, they reach from the ground to above their heads.) First I get revved up.

(Children make engine-like noises while still spinning their arms.)

A Little Apple Seed (Sung to: “Itsy, Bitsy Spider”)

Once a little apple seed was planted in the ground. Down came the raindrops, falling all around. Out came the big sun, bright as bright could be And that little apple seed grew to be an apple tree!

Applesauce

Needed:

2 pounds tart cooking apples

1/2 - 2/3 cup sugar (add to taste)

Steps

1. Wash, core, and peel the apples. Cut them into wedges.

2. Put water into a saucepan. Bring to a boil, add apples, and bring back to a boil.

3. Reduce heat, simmer 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add water is necessary.

4. Stir in sugar until well combined. Serve warm or cold.

Optional – Add cinnamon to taste.

This snack to be made by an adult only!

Alligator on a Log There once was an alligator sitting on a log. Down in the pool he saw a little frog. In jumped the alligator, and around went the log. Splash went the water, and away swam the frog.


Ants Use 3 sections of a cardboard egg carton to form the body. Have the children paint it any color they wish. Using pipe cleaners, put antennae on the first section, and four legs on each of the 2 back sections. Draw eyes or use wiggly eyes on the front section.


Apple Happy Pocket Chart Print up on white card stock. Trim and Laminate. Using a pocket chart, tell the poem, and use the apple pieces to place on the chart as you say each sentence. You can also have the children match the pieces as you read each sentence.
