Director Mayors Office of Special Enforcement 1 Centre Street, 10th Floor New York, N.Y. 10007 Re: 720 West End Ave., New York, N.Y. 10025 Dear Director Glazer: We write seeking the intervention of the Office of Special Enforcement regarding the illegal and improper letting of units at the above Class A Apartment Hotel to transient guests. Although our offices have been working with the tenants of this Class A Apartment Hotel for some weeks, the use of rooms as transient hotel rooms by the owner, the Salvation Army, was only recently brought to our attention. In an apparent effort to maximize the monetary value of the building, the Williams Residence for Seniors, the owners have warehoused over 100 units, declining to rent them to permanent tenants. It now appears that many of these warehoused units are being utilized as transient hotel rooms. The 15th floor of the Residence, for example, contains 22 units, only 12 of which are occupied, with one apparently reserved for visiting Salvation Army staff, and two used as transient hotel units. This, as you know, is improper, illegal and potentially dangerous activity. We urge you to act as quickly as possible to investigate the situation and take all appropriate action.
