There are 10 letters from 1774 to 1797, and 200 from 1900 to 1964, with the bulk covering the 19th century. The most frequent subjects of the letters range from news of family and friends, health and travel, and information about work in progress. Several letters, listing titles and prices of art works, apparently accompanied works sent to exhibitions. There are also a number of autograph letters signed for collectors. The collection includes ca. 40 illustrated letters, as well as independent sketches and drawings in pencil or ink, and watercolors, signed. Also included are reproductions of art works (mostly engraved portraits of artists), press clippings of biographical notes and obituaries, dealer catalog clippings, studio portrait photographs, and even a couple of poems and some
