Route of exploration

the expedition started in ST Louis and traveled up the Missouri River. They crossed the Rocky Mountains. They traveled down the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean.

Lewis and Clark discovered the black tailed prairie dog they are tan and have black tips on there tails they are native to grasslands

Lewis and Clark also discovered the Northern Spotted Owl they nest in trunk cavities they lay 2-3 eggs

PLANTS FROM THE EXPEDITION

Buffalo berry

Lewis and clark discovered the buffalo berry it grows wild along stream banks in the Great Plains of North America ,it is a currant-sized, scarlet-red or golden-yellow berry with a tart flavour. The berries are used to make a meat relish and jelly. .

Lewis and Clark liked the black tailed prairie dog so much that he shipped a live one to president Thomas Jefferson. The prairie dog survived the long journey the president was very interested in the prairie dog.

One day on the expedition Lewis’ dog seaman got bit by a beaver the beaver cut an artery and Lewis had to care for his dog for a while

The only death on the expedition was Sergeant Charles Floyd he died of natural causes on August 20, 1804 near Sioux City,
