In Santiago de Cuba, carnival means Conga and Conga de la Cocoteros are here to bring the spirit of carnival to Leytonstone. This is authentic carnival Conga: while Bass drums, Bocu drums and Brake drums lay out the rhythms, a soprano sax solos, the drummers sing and the audience dance, drink and soak up the atmosphere!

The Leytonstone Library Playreading Group present a staged play reading with costumes and scenery of Mrs Warren’s Profession, a 1902 early feminist shocker by Bernard Shaw, with Jenny Runacre in the title role. What is Mrs Warren’s profession? Why does her daughter Vivie, a very modern cigar-smoking young Edwardian woman, find it so objectionable? Who is her father and will she marry the Rector’s son? Join us on Monday 2nd September at 7.30 to find out. After over eighty years we still welcome free audiences and performers to the Leytonstone Library Theatre Hall on the second Monday evening of most months.

Henry Lowther has been playing jazz since the mid sixties. He even played at Woodstock! He has been at the forefront of British jazz ever since. His band Still Waters has been going since 1997. As a result Still Waters is now one of the most accomplished, tightly ensembled and creative bands around. Although a classic quintet of two front line & rhythm, Still Waters plays radical and original music, ranging from gentle, quietly pastoral and melodic music, reflecting the band’s name, through to dynamic, free improvisation.www.eastsidejazzclub.blogspot.com

The Lakehouse Bell are Chris Smallwood (guitar, volcals) and Steve Arnold (cello). They hail from Leytonstone and Forest Gate in East London, while their origins are by the rivers Trent and Medway.

Their music is forged by influences from Bert Jansch to the Banshees, from Joy Division to Scott Walker, from Fairport Convention to Dub, from Kraftwerk to John Barry to Bach and back again.

The result is a soulful folk with a country groove on the surface, and a tale to tell from within, as Chris's vocals and guitar play out songs of lyrical reflections on modern living, of the urban and mundane, of humour, people & places, while Steve's cello pushes and pulls the beat in a decadent waltz with neo-classical and upright cello bass.www.lakehousebell.com

Lauren is a local East Londoner who has been singing for 15 years and has appeared on the X Factor! Lauren will feature Motown/Jazz and Pop classics all the way from the 60s. Dave Octave performs ratpack, big band and jazz songs with his amazing vocals.
