Guten Tag, Sister Cities Members! We are starting to plan many activities for this year. Be at the March Regular Membership meeting to get valuable infor-

Vice President Mike Blakesly

ANNOUNCES…...Zach Bruening

Gemutlecheit will be hosted by Mike & Mary Blakesly follow-ing the meeting on March 14th at the Senior Citizen Building.

Memories from past President Shelia Campbell of Prestwick:

I remember the Burns supper in Vandalia in Feb. 1998. Ian

and I were asked to help, along with Dr. Jimmy Begg and wife,

Helen. Jimmy is a Robert Burns specialist. He offered infor-

mation to the committee for their preparations. One was for

Cock-a Leekie Soup and the number and order of speeches. I

recall a wonderful tartan table decoration organized by Susie

Wright and her helpers and I treasure my souvenir program.

The highlights were Wayne’s account of smuggling the haggis

(es) over the Canadian Border, the former Scot who played

the bagpipes at Vandalia parades and now residing in Can-

ada who helped obtain the Haggis, and piped it in at the din-

ner. Jimmy delivered the Immortal Memory, Sam Moorman

gave an unforgettable Toast to the Lassies to which It was my

privilege to reply, Ian addressed the Haggis and Helen spoke

the Selkirk Grace. It was indeed a memorable occasion-we

stayed with Bob & Thea Chiles, friends since we met at Dr.

Hauptmann’s recital in 1991. The 4 Prestwick helpers were

well-rewarded with a few days with the Moormans & Glasers

in Florida. Special good wishes to Wayne & Susie Wright-they

did so much to help link Prestwick in it’s early days. Good

wishes to membership, past & present.

. With kind regards~Sheila Campbell
