Haslemere dentist Barry
Oulton has come to the
rescue of a pensioner who
cannot afford dental charges.
He saw the plight of 72-year-
old Elizabeth Green on BBC
TV’s Breakfast Time.
Mrs Green, from Winchester,
was resorting to DIY dentistry,
super-gluing her crumbling
dentures so that she could eat.
And she told the BBC that she
had become so desperate that
she had pulled two of her teeth
out, after failing to find free
dentistry. “I have no savings
and I can’t afford a dentist,”
she said.
Dr Oulton, from the
Haslemere Dental Centre, saw
the TV programme and has
stepped in with an offer to
help her. “We are going to look
after you,” he said, assuring
her there would be no cost.
“We need to look at changing
the system so that help is more
readily available for people
like you.”

progress reports on the case
of the ‘Pensioner with Dental
Difficulties’.

Haslemere retailers involved in the local loyalty Rewards
Scheme are taking part in an Advent Calendar event in
December. Each day one of the retailers will open its doors and
give visitors a special offer. The businesses will have a garland
with the date number on their door, and the event goes under the
title ‘Follow the Star.’ Melanie Odell, of Haslemere Initiative which
is organising the event, said that 5,000 postcards were being
produced to promote this new event.
The award-winning Rewards Scheme has more than 30
members in the Haslemere area, and local shops from
Applegarth to XYZ are taking part in the event.

Cheers!
The team behind the delicious burgers
at Haslemere Beer Festival
The tried and tested formula
of great real ale and cider, live
music and local grub made a
popular return to the Haslemere
Hall on 5 and 6 September.
The place was packed by
7.30pm on the Friday night with
a smiling Simon Labrow to greet
us at the door and a heady mix
of banter, music and laughter
from all corners of the venue.
Available for glugging were 36
real ales, plus nine local ciders.
Bigger fans of the apples than
the hops, the Life in Haslemere
girls went for the Heart of
Hamsphire and Mr Whitehead’s
Strawberry Cider to start, be-
fore finding their favourite for
the evening, Old Rosie Scrumpy
by Weston’s. The award for the
best beer, chosen by popular
vote, went to Hip Hop from
Langham Brewery in Lodsworth,
the most local brewers at the
Haslemere Beer Festival.
Dereck Lowe (pictured third
from left above) was well-quali-
fied in beer tasting for the eve-
ning. He works at Laverstoke
Park Farm Brewery in Romsey.
“I have come here to check out
the competition!” he joked, “My
favourites so far are Bowman’s
Swift One and Exmoor Gold.”
Pictured, from left to right,
are: Alan Pickett, Brenda Hunt,
Dereck Lowe, Gaye Ashby, John
Ashby, Peter Hunt and Viv Pickett.
Picture Above: Alistair Condie
(left) and Simon Chaplin (right)
came to the Haslemere Beer
Festival for the first time this
year. Alistair gave Ballards
Golden Brine, the Nyewood
Gold, also from Ballards, and
Triple fff’s Moondance all 7/10.
“I’ve tried another one as well
but can’t remember what it
was!” he informed us.
Simon’s favourite was
Hogsback’s England’s Glory.

Beacon Hill butcher Alan
Thwaites won the Traditional
Sausage competition for the
second time. Alan Thwaites’
Farmhouse variety of sausage
— free-range pork, ground herbs
and black pepper — tickled the
tastebuds of the Food Festival
judges. “I have been making
sausages for 26 years,” Alan told
Life in Haslemere, “and there are
no special secrets, apart from
using good quality ingredients. I
simply experiment until I find a
recipe which suits my taste.”
He sells six or seven varieties
in his shop, and another local
favourite is the winner in 2006,
the Surrey Savoury — pork with
coriander, ground ginger, and
fried onion and garlic.
The winner of Special Sausage
was Kevin Kaighin & Daughter
in Grayshott.

T he Four Seasons Executive Chef, Cyril Pannier,
and Head Sommelier, Akos Hervai, teamed up
with Haslemere Travel for an engaging series of
food and wine tastings as part of the Haslemere
Food Festival.
Our group of eight were treated to a delicious
array of wine and local cheeses in an interesting
and exciting tasting tutorial. Cyril took us through
six flavourful cheeses, enlightening us about their
origins, ingredients and much more. He combined
them with a range of gorgeous chutneys, crack-
ers and cakes. Akos introduced a wine to taste
with each cheese. Beautiful white and red wines
complemented the cheese excellently on each
round, bringing out the flavour even further. We
had the privilege of trying Tunworth cheese, which
was judged to be the Supreme Champion 2006 at
the British Cheese Awards, beating over 840 other
entries. It has also won a gold at the World Cheese
Awards 2007.
However, my favourite cheese of the day was the
Barkham Blue, from Too Hoots Farm in Wokingham.
A gold medal winner, blue-veined cheese with a
delicate creamy texture.
Cyril combined the cheese with fig bread and fig
roll and melted the cheese on top with a blow-torch.
Akos added a beautiful red wine to finish.
Delicious!

A superb sunny Saturday lit
up the Food as Medicine
show at Haslemere Educational
Museum on 20 September.
Now in its 10th year, this free
event is sponsored by Haslemere
Health Foods in Wey Hill. Visitors
learned about green garden-
ing and met therapists from
the Centre for Complementary
Medicine, which is part of Hasle-
mere Health Foods.
“It really seems that people
are now taking responsibility
for what they eat,” said Dominic
Upton from Haslemere Health
Foods. New this year was the
Fruit and Vegetable Exchange
Trading Post in the museum
garden. People could show their
produce and swap their surplus.
As well as locally produced
healthy foods, there were stalls
for crafts, self-sufficiency ideas,
and coping with special dietary
needs. And demonstrations,
workshops and talks in mas-
sage, yoga, t’ai chi, herbalism,
homeopathy, and nutrition.
One of the speakers was John
Smith, who was paying his third
visit to the Food Festival. The
author of a new book called “100
herbs of power” (the topic of
a previous talk at the Festi-
val), John had travelled from
Bristol to discuss food, herbs
and health.
The children also had fun with
African drumming and dance,
henna tattoos, face painting, and
farm animals.

S amantha Chisnall, aged
12, from The Royal
School, won the 2008 Junior
Masterchef with her inventive
pork and lemon meatballs,
followed by a chocolate
brownie. She was awarded with
a high quality food processor
donated by magimix.bbs.ltd,
based in Farnham.
Five young chefs were given
an hour and a half to create a
two-course meal, which had to
include British-inspired food,
available in the local area. The
recipes were modified by the
pupils to meet these criteria.
Sarah Slade, General Manager
of The Georgian House Hotel,
said: “The dishes all looked
so delicious, I hope you
understand how difficult this
was to judge.”
Second place went to Megan
Manganaro, 13, from Woolmer
Hill. She created herb and
mustard crushed lamb on
a bed of scallion crushed
potatoes, followed by a white
chocolate, mint mousse.
Runners-up were presented
with book vouchers donated by
Haslemere Bookshop.
Grace Bailey, 13, from Wispers
School snapped up third place
with her chicken pasta and
a beautiful rhubarb dessert.
Highly commended chefs were
Benidimo Still and Lindsay
Hamilton Fairley, both 13 and
from Woolmer Hill.
The event, hosted by
Woolmer Hill Technology
College and organised by the
Haslemere Initiative, was a
great success.

T here’s no getting away from it, Christmas 2008 will soon be upon us. But why take on the stress and strain of a marathon trip to the larger, more traditional Christmas shopping locations when there is so much on offer on your
doorstep? Life in Haslemere takes a look at the fantastic range of giftware available in the town
If you’re looking for a gift for a female in your family, why not
pop along to Classic Cookware in the High Street. Mother
and daughter team Sylvia Beardsley and Anne Joyce stock an
Alladin’s Cave of practical gifts, including a vast selection crockery
(we recommend Burleigh, made in Staffordshire), gadgets and
accessories. Pepper mills are very popular this year, and Life in
Haslemere loves the new Marlux range of brightly coloured salt
and pepper grinders.
Christmas isn’t complete without a good book. Next door,
The Haslemere Bookshop stocks a large collection of fiction,
bestsellers, reference, special interest, travel and childen’s books,
plus everything else you can think of. But if you still can’t find what
you are looking for, why not use their 24-hour ordering service?
For that special person in your
life, Clayton Fine Jewellery
at the top end of town is the
place to go—its selection of
quality watches are perfect
for ladies and gentlemen.
Our favourite is Citizen’s
Calibre Shot, featuring
perpetual calendar,
dual time, alarm, and
water resistant to 100
metres. Choose from a
gold-plated watch on a
leather strap or stainless
steel set on a bracelet. And if
you’re feeling extravagant, take
a look at the diamond brick-link
bracelet — with 490 diamonds
— for that special lady in
your life.
If lingerie is more her thing,
pop in and see what Amazing
Grace at the bottom of the High
Street has to offer. Stocking
favourites include ranges from
Huit, Elle Macpherson, Marie Jo
and Prima Donna, and also a
large range of ladies’ night-wear.
The boutique store will be open
every day throughout the whole
of December.
Socks make the perfect
stocking filler, and Meeka in
West Street has simply the best
selection around. Hot Sox come
in all shapes and sizes and we
can’t get enough of them at Life
Magazines. Also worth a look are
Joules jazzy wellies, perfect for
long winter walks. Ladies-wear
labels stocked here include Nice
Day Nice Things, Quba, Esprit
and RM Williams.

On to food and drink, and
what Christmas fridge is
complete without a selection
of fine cheeses? Cheesebox
in West Street has something
for everyone during the
festive season. Try top-quality
Vacherine, which goes superbly
with a variety of biscuits and
textures. And don’t forget
Colston Bassett Stilton, made
with late summer milk, the best
time of year for this cheese.
A visit to Enchanted Wood on
the Petworth Road should fill
you with ideas for the younger
members of your family. The
boys will love the new Star Wars
lego, out now, and the girls will
be all smiles with anything from
the Hannah Montana or High
School Musical ranges stocked
in-store. And who could resist
the cute jacket and wellies
range by Hatley!
Of course, all cheese courses
need something to wash them
down with. Next to Cheesebox
is The Haslemere Cellar. Buy
Churchills Crusted Port — a very
good value vintage port for
extra brownie points. Perfect
to accompany any Christmas
dinner is Claret or Burgundy.

A full day spent in Grayshott
and the surrounding
area should leave you with a
crossed-off Christmas list and
aching arms!
If you’re looking for a gift for
the woman-about-town, go no
further than Enchantment in
Grayshott Square. Moonsus
City Bags are new in for the
winter season. Feminine laptop
holders with room for overnight
belongings, business cards,
phones and pens, these nifty
numbers are also compact
enough to use as flight luggage.
Enchantment offers a large
range of ladies’ accessories for
every occasion.
Amelie on Headley Road offers
a superb range of gifts, trinkets
and furnishings. Christmas lines
include scented linen hearts
embroidered with Joyeux Noel,
red linen drawstring toiletries,
’Kiss and Make-Up’ bags, which
are perfect for females of any
age. Everyone loves a stocking
at Christmas, and Amelie will
have a number of natural linen
stockings from Retreat in line for
the festive season.
For something a bit different,
check out Elizabeth Gordon
on Crossways Road. Its novelty
bean-bag doorstops by Lucy Tom
make a great present, and you
can get them in the shape of a
cockerel, penguin, pig, elephant,
or hippo! For a more traditional
gift, take a look at the Jon Plant
range of crockery, and don’t
forget the fabulous range of
Riveria Maison homeware.
Carry on across the road to
Blaze House Art and you will
find a beautiful and individual
range of Marioni pewter, perfect
for an older member of the
family. This is a hand-made
Italian range totalling 300 pieces
— great to start a collection with.
Blaze is renowned for its Flugel
German Christmas candles
— exquisitely hand-finished and
very in-keeping with the season.
Get there quick as these always
sell out fast.
Continue to School Road, and
Grayshott Pottery where you
won’t be disappointed. The
pottery offers a feast for
the eyes with beautiful one-
off studio pieces, gifts and
accessories. ’Penguins”, a large
oval platter designed by Marieka
Snell, makes a real statement
as a gift at a special time of
year. Or for the male members
of the family, a Dartington
Crystal tankard would be warmly
received.
Christmas is always centred
around food. Kaighin & Daughter,
the long-established butchers
in Headley Road, will go that
extra mile to ensure you ‘eat,
drink and be merry’. As well as
the more traditional Christmas
Fayre, on offer is a wide and
fresh range of fish, including
lobster and salmon, which
always prove popular at this
time of year, and prime Scottish
beef, on or off the bone. If you’re
feeling flash, they can prepare
a three-bird roast for you, using
whichever meat you prefer.
Pre-ordering starts from
1 November and is a must to
avoid disappointment.

P atrick Wenham is new
at Haslemere Prep
School this term. His wide
experience in the state and
independent sectors, as well
as his work as a schools’
inspector, has given him
a unique understanding
of what makes schools
excellent.
He is keen to maintain
the family atmosphere at
Haslemere Prep, a boys-only
school which is uniquely
able to teach in the ways
that help boys learn most
effectively. The school boasts
an excellent pupil/staff ratio
and, while it has a strong
academic tradition, it caters
for the full spectrum of
ability.
Recently, children have
gained places at a range of
reputable schools, including
an academic scholarship
this year to R G S, Guildford.
Haslemere Prep offers first-
rate teaching in all areas
and is bound to benefit
from the new Head’s keen
interest in music. He was a
choral scholar at Cambridge
University and plays the

Clare Williams has just
completed her first year
at Liphook Junior School. She
believes in “shaping lives for
the future — preparing children
for life by helping them to
acquire skills that can be
applied to changing situations
and enabling them to living
harmoniously with others.”
During the past year the
school has participated in a
number of community events
including ‘Canada Day’ in June
which included a service at
Bramshott Church followed
by lunch and singalong for
Canadian war veterans.
New for 2008 is a more
integrated curriculum, the
introduction of modern
languages across the school
and implementation of IT
learning platforms with
more home/school IT links.
A refurbishment programme
has been initiated with
improvements to the school
hall, new staff work areas and
updates to the art and kitchen
areas.
In November, the school
choir is taking part in an
exciting ‘biggest choir’
record-breaking attempt at
the O2 stadium in London for
the Guiness Book of Records.

An ‘outstanding’ rating
from Ofsted inspectors
across all areas, including
leadership and management,
sets the scene for another
successful year at Godalming.
Since joining the sixth
form college in 2001, David
Adelman, the Principal, has
overseen an expansion in the
breadth of course choices
available at A-level, together
with a broadening vocational
programme that offers new
opportunities for 14 to 16
year olds and adult learners
in the workplace.
With its excellent exam
results – the 2008 A-level
pass rate is 99% – Godalming
is consistently one of the
top performing colleges
in the country. David’s
long-term plans have seen
major improvements to
college accommodation with
state-of the art facilities for
every faculty, supporting
a positive teaching and
learning environment
while maintaining a strong
community atmosphere.
Woolmer Hill is one of
four local partner schools
and pupils there have
opportunities throughout
the year to get a taste
of what’s in store at
Godalming College.
David Adelman, Godalming College
When Jon Hills joined
six years ago, he was
struck by the enthusiasm he
found at Grayshott Primary,
and this has not diminished.
“An enriched curriculum
comes from all the ‘extras’
that parents, staff, Business
in Grayshott (BiG) and the
wider community give to the
school,” he explains.
These include an annual
Arts Week, with the help of
Grayshott Fine Arts Society,
and a school allotment
run with volunteer parent
gardeners and Grayshott
Gardeners. The PTA
organizes discos, theatre
group performances and
treats and this year raised
money to fund the new
swimming pool enclosure.
Grayshott has 210 pupils in
seven classes. In 2006 the
‘temporary’ classrooms of
30 years were demolished
and replaced by two large
community learning areas
and administration facilities,
and the new IT facilities
provide access to 30
networked computers. This
year Grayshott received
Healthy School enhanced
status, and the school
achieved another successful
Ofsted report affirming that
it is a very good school with
outstanding features.

Y ou will find quality in a comfortable modern style in this 11-bed-
room hostelry. The bar remains a focal point so locals are still
welcomed in for a drink.
When we visited in September we were tempted to stop for a glass
at the bar and choose our dinner.
Then we moved to the dining room — a bright, square room at
the rear — to sample the food, which complements the Swan Inn’s
friendly, modern atmosphere. Executive Chef Darren Tidd plans the
menus, which evolve and change gradually over a four to six-week
rolling period. There are daily specials and traditional Sunday lunch-
time fare.
We started with an excellent beef carpaccio salad and a smoked
salmon salad (served with mixed leaves, feta cheese, crayfish and
orange with a crème fraiche dressing). The helpings were extremely
generous, and Geraldine noted that the dressing with the smoked
salmon was slightly ‘lost in translation’.
However, she was most enthusiastic about her main course
— tender duck breast with bubble and squeak, seasonal veg and an
orange and thyme sauce. I enjoyed the clean lines of the fillet of
smoked haddock, with new potatoes, green beans and a crayfish
and herb dressing. For pudding, we shared a grand helping of home
made ice cream.
Cost with wine: about £45 per head for three courses.
Manager Will Allen, who grew up in Haslemere, moved back south
from Edinburgh to take up his post earlier this year. The Swan’s
owner, Dan Hall, has recently taken over the nearby Crown Inn,
Chiddingfold, which has undergone a complete refurb and now is a
gastro pub. But that’s another story… watch this space. Life

Grayshott in early 2006 after acquiring D J Murphy, a 60-year-old
family firm that published equestrian titles.
The business has doubled in size since then, winning major
publishing awards every year. This year Signature won the PPA
Individual Achievement of the Year award, and was also highly
commended as Publisher of the Year.
Signature publishes 350,000 magazines monthly, liaising with
80 wholesalers and 14,000 retailers; and it depends on a reliable
and trusted support team. Their products include: equestrian
magazines, such as Horse and Rider, currently the top monthly
title in the sector, and Pony Magazine (Magazine of the Year in
2007); The Christmas Magazine; The Home Magazine; and three
recently launched children’s titles.
Online publishing complements print. “Our magazine websites
strengthen our relationship with readers and provide us with
another dimension and a way to interact with them,” explains
Clive, who believes that new technologies re-define rather than
replace existing ones.
Clive has lived in the Grayshott area for 19 years, and he likes to
relax by racing classic cars — he has a Datsun 240Z. His goals are
lift Signature into the top 25 consumer publishers within the next
three years — and to keep investing in people!

Hampshire Village of the Year
competition.
Started towards the end of the
last century, BIG encourages
people to patronise Grayshott

hugely successful.
The latest award will sit
proudly next to the plaque BIG
won in 2002 when Grayshott

presented to Dick Smith, Phil
Bates and Peter Hatch on behalf
of BIG by HRH Princess Royal.
“I am over the moon with
our latest accolade,” says
Dick Smith, Chairman of BIG.
“All the credit must go to our
150 members who not only get
on and run their successful
businesses but also contribute
to village life. Grayshott clearly
demonstrates how villagers that

can flourish.”

T he Haslemere and Midhurst
branch of the National
Childbirth Trust (NCT) has a
network of approximately 65
members over an area covering
Haslemere, Headley, Midhurst
and Petworth.
Clare Warrender became
Branch Chairman six months
ago. A member of the group
for three and a half years, she
joined when she was expecting
her daughter.
Objectives of the organization
include promoting better care
and skills during labour (and
beyond) and providing a strong
network of support for mothers
in the local area.
“Many women find themselves
moving to the Haslemere area
to start a family and leave
their London lifestyles behind,”
says Clare. “What is easy to
forget is that frequently their
husbands or partners are still
commuting to London. It can
be very difficult to be alone
with a new child in an area you
do not know.” Perhaps one of
the trust’s better-known events
is the Nearly New Sale held
twice a year: “It’s like queuing
outside Next for the Boxing Day
sale!” exclaims Clare. “We’re
also known for the annual
Cheeky Monkey Tea Party — a
fundraising event where children
get their faces painted as
‘Cheeky Monkeys’.
This year’s tea party, held
in May, raised £189 for the
Haslemere branch. Funds go
towards antenatal and postnatal
support in the area.
And it’s not all about the
women. Haslemere NCT branch
is actively trying to get more
dads involved with the group.

All the colours of the rainbow
T wo local artists display
their latest work at the
Haslemere Museum with ‘A
Celebration of Colour’.
The exhibition, featuring
work by Sue Gray and Richard
Mcbride, will run from 14
October to 1 November and
promises an innovative and
vibrant display of colour,
medium and interpretation.
Sue, who has studied the
history of art and is an active
member of art groups in the
area, uses oil to create a sense
of place through landscapes.
Her work creates a particular
atmosphere and evokes
emotional response.
Richard lives in Haslemere
and is originally from Ireland.
His subjects range from farm
houses in his native country to
capturing the light of Italy — a
country very close to his heart.
“We would love people to
come and share with us our
love of landscape,” says Sue.

Cricket season’s greetings
In full flight: Roger Eastment
(2nd XI). Photograph by Jon Larbey
T he 1st XI hit a purple patch
late in the season, and
were deprived of promotion
from the Fuller’s League 1st XI
Division Two by a freakish under-
performance that cost them
20 points. They finished third,
seven points behind promoted
Frimley.
The 2nd XI led for most of
the season, with eight wins out
of their first nine games, but
failed to win promotion from the
Fuller’s League 2nd XI Division
Two by a mixture of misfortune
and two surprising late defeats.
These factors cost them 60
points, and they finished fifth,
about 30 points behind a
promotion place.
Overall, everyone at the club
agrees that both sides enjoyed
a very good season that bodes
well for the future. Skipper
Jon Larbey can be justifiably
proud, and the interaction
between the two teams has
never been better.
As recorded in Life in
Haslemere Issue 10 (June-July),
the 1st XI have benefited from
the arrival of three young talents
from the Hooker-Futcher 2nd XI
school – Simon Eastment, Chris
Sturt and Sam Williams – who
have fitted in smoothly and
successfully.
Eastment played in every
game, scoring 481 runs at more
than a run a ball and taking 15
wickets. Sturt, despite having
to bowl within ECB restrictions,
was a formidable opening bowler
taking 21 wickets in his first 1st XI
season and bowled most overs.
Williams, now established at
number 4, scored 244 runs.
Experienced players say
that the transfusion of youth
has made a big difference
Lee Clement (546 runs and
23 wickets), Kevin Gray (477
runs, including two centuries,
at an average of 68.14), Andrew
Hastilow (316 runs in six innings
at an average of 105.33) and
Graham Boxall (18 wickets,
twice as many as in 2007, at
just 10.11 apiece).
Their enthusiastic fielding and
presence has been catching,
and Graham Boxall says that,
for the first time in a long time,
he is looking forward to playing
cricket again.
The 2nd XI heroes, led by
stalwarts Kym Hooker (captain)
and Ian Futcher (vice-captain),
include: Steve Vowels, who took
a remarkable 35 wickets: Paul
Sturt, who had only scored
48 runs the previous season,
top-scoring with 304; Roger
Eastment (like his son, playing in
every game) scored prolifically
in the early stages; Ollie Ellis
took16 wickets; and ‘veteran
James Macaulay’s took his
usual quota of 20+ wickets
bowling long and exhausting
bowling spells.
The events of the season will
keep us all fuelled with stories,
jokes, slurs and banter during
the long football season. We
can’t wait for May 2009.

Grayshott going places
Cricket season’s greetings
A fine season for the young
cricketers in Grayshott
Cricket Club has highlighted
continued development in 2008
The under-15s won their
division in the Two Counties
Youth League but lost to
Farnham in the final. They also
competed in the South East
Hants District League for the
first time, won the East Division,
and then beat Portsmouth
and Sarisbury, the respective
winners of the central and west
division, to win that league.
The Lions side (u-9) won
the Two Counties League
Youth League for the second
successive year, beating
Frensham in the final and
unbeaten all season. And the
u-11s were beaten by Guildford
in the League final.
The senior first team finished
in second place, although they
won their last game away at
Puttenham in mid-September.
But it was not quite enough
as leaders Frensham also won
their final game. Both the 2nd
and 3rd XI sides were promoted
last season and faced tougher
opposition this year. The newly
formed 4th XI, who played their
home games at Milland, finished
sixth.
Progress off the field
continued with the achievement
of the Clubmark re-
accreditation – the first club
in Hampshire to do so. The
club continues to be on the
ECB’s Focus Clubs recognised
for Youth development – 13
children played District Cricket
this year and Oliver Duckworth
represented the County at
Under 10 level.
A new club website was
created by one of the younger
members and has been
shortlisted in the Hantsweb
awards.

Grayshott Pottery continued
to the sponser the club in 2008.
Their support, and that of other
local businesses, is so important
in promoting and encouraging
people to play cricket.
The club wants to attract
more adult playing and
non-playing members.

T he practice was founded in
September 1998 by Dr Barry
Oulton, and HDC has seen many
changes and improvements
since then. “I know many of
our patients have been with
us since then,” Barry says. “So
much has happened in dentistry
and the whole team at HDC are
committed to lifelong learning
and improvement.”
HDC have the privilege of
bringing straight to their clients
many of the advances in the
dentistry industry during the
20th and the 21st centuries.
These scientific advances have
required huge amounts of
money and teams of computer
and material scientists,
toxicologists, synthesis chemists
and industry partners.
Lift your smile: Dr Oulton can
make you look younger by giving
you a ‘smile lift’ in as little as
two visits to HDC. Thin porcelain
veneers are put on the teeth,
to make them straighter, whiter
and more beautiful – giving you
a fuller smile.
An instructor to dentists in
London and Florida, Dr Oulton
is highly skilled in creating and
maintaining beautiful smiles.
His fellow team members are
Dr Rishi Soni, who has recently
married, and James Grant
(Specialist Orthodontist).
They are supported by a
practice staff of six – Claire,
Nazmin, Sue (Dental Assistants);
Sally (PA to Dr Oulton); Kelly
(Dental Therapist); and Nina
(Receptionist).
Zoom!™: teeth whitening
Tooth whitening is a well–
established practice in cosmetic
dentistry. The Zoom!™ system
is a scientifically advanced
procedure which makes teeth
dramatically whiter in just over
an hour.
Just smile
Life in Haslemere is delighted that the Haslemere Dental Centre
has kindly agreed to sponsor this month’s sparkling prize
The prize: Zoom!™ teeth–whitening prize, worth £500. For your
chance to win, answer the following three questions:
Send your answers and contact details to:Teeth whitening competition, Life Magazines Ltd,
22 High Street, Petersfield, GU32 3JL.
Or email: [email protected]
Terms and conditions Entries must be received by Friday 31 0ctober 2008. One
entry per person. The winner will be decided by draw and announced in the
December–January issue of Life in Haslemere. The judges’ decision is final. No cash
alternative is available. By entering this Competition you accept that your data
can be passed to the sponsors, HDC. Employees of Life Magazines and Haslemere Dental Centre are not allowed to submit entries.
1) What year was Haslemere Dental Centre founded?
2) Apart from London, where else does Dr Oulton
instruct dentists?
3) How long does it take for Zoom!™ to make teeth
‘dramatically whiter’?
“Something to smile about” is the watchword of the Haslemere Dental Centre (HDC), which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. And the something to make you readers smile is the chance of an exclusive Zoom!™ teeth–whitening programme in our competition, which is generously sponsored by HDC (see the details in the panel on the right of this page)
Zoom!™ is safe and effective,
as well as very fast. The process
is effective on most discoloured
teeth – the degree of whitening
varies depending on the
structure of the patient’s teeth.
Patients can take home a kit
with a custom–made tray so that
they can boost the whitening at
a later stage if they need to.
Oral health: Your oral health
is important. If you or a family
member are tempted to skip
a regular visit to the dentist,
please reconsider.
Dental diagnostics are often
the first to reveal problems such
as eating disorders and oral
infections, which, if treated at
an early stage, can be managed
successfully. Please contact HDC
for a diagnostic visit, or to learn
more about teeth whitening and
smile lifts. See contact details
below.
