FOR YEARS 11 & 12

SEDA College is an independent, co-educational Year 11 to Year 12 school which provides HSC programs in a hands-on, industry based environment.

SEDA College brings a new model of learning to senior secondary students in NSW. We provide an exciting and positive alternative to traditional senior schooling, with a HSC course designed to engage students with their learning, and empower them to achieve personal growth and success during and beyond school.

The College’s aim is to develop an engaging and caring learning environment which fosters the holistic growth of each young person, and provides pathways to lifelong learning.

At SEDA College, students benefit from being exposed to high standards and a range of learning opportunities, allowing them to reach their personal and career goals.

It is our intention to produce graduates who are confident learners, care for and about others, and are optimistic about their future. Our hope is that they will be well-rounded individuals who want to make a difference on both the local and global stage.

To achieve these aims, SEDA College has developed a partnership with SEDA Group to implement its educational model, and to access industry partnerships with leading national and state organisations.

The College Council chose the SEDA Group model because of its powerful core values and its success in engaging students in education in other parts of Australia.

What makes for an engaging education? For us, the key component is interest-based learning. The College promotes a model of learning that places students and their life choices at the centre of everything we do.

SEDA College delivers the HSC curriculum using an applied learning pedagogy, which means hands-on learning happens both inside and outside of the classroom. Through this applied learning model, students have a deeper connection to their education.

Students also undertake industry placement and community project work throughout their time at the College, to develop their work readiness and community awareness.

SEDA College promotes strong relationships between students and staff. The ‘one teacher, one class model allows the teacher to really get to know students, their personal circumstances and their career aspirations, and to help them develop confidence and lifelong learning skills.

The College has a strong pastoral care model which is led by our teachers. Young people, their families and their teachers work collaboratively to find productive ways to resolve some of the challenges that may arise during the student’s time at school. We use a restorative justice approach to challenging situations and work closely with students and their families to provide support and access to local services within their neighbourhoods.

At SEDA College, students learn in real workplace and community settings. At SEDA, it is common for students to learn outside their comfort zone and make mistakes, and this is where the real learning takes place. Our experienced teachers support students all the way.

Through our industry-based learning approach, students acquire the skills that employers need and want.

CLASSROOMS THAT INSPIRE SUCCESSTo maximise student learning and deliver industry-based training, we partner with industry bodies to make sure our students receive hands-on learning in their chosen workplace.

Our teachers guide and challenge every student, helping them grasp the importance of theoretical work. Students learn the theoretical aspects of various concepts or situations before putting them into practice. We make use of a combination of e-learning and traditional classroom approaches to teaching.

COMMUNITY FOCUSED LEARNINGWe empower every student to be proud of who they are and become good citizens. We partner with a number of community organisations to spearhead greater community involvement and teach our students how to address social inequality and injustice. Through their involvement in the community, students have the opportunity to:

WORK PLACEMENTOur students get a head start in their careers through their work placements. This hands-on learning experience is delivered one day a week.

VOLUNTEERING Our students have unique opportunities to work at high profile sport and recreational events through our volunteering programs and practical placements.

Staff from our industry partners work with our students to assist them to understand the value of volunteering and building professional networks that link to their career goals and aspirations.

SEDA College recognises that a Year 12 completion is fundamental to a young person’s long term personal, social and career development.

The College provides a range of traditional HSC and VET units of study, utilising an applied learning approach to teaching. Students complete a curriculum that is built on 50% classroom theory work and 50% practical learning, through work placement and community based learning experiences. This provides students with the opportunity to test their knowledge in a real environment, assisting them to transition into work or further study.

Upon successful completion of the two years at SEDA College, students will achieve the following qualifications:

EXPERIENCED TEACHING STAFFStudents have access to a team of experienced teachers for literacy, numeracy, wellbeing and career guidance. They are experts in their field, helping students to develop their individual passions and achieve outstanding success.

Our teachers, while being experienced educators, also have a broad range of professional experiences and excellent theoretical and practical grounding. All of our teachers are experienced in PDHPE and are active sportspeople.

All staff are invested in unlocking each student’s potential as they guide them on a pathway to success. Our teachers develop a rapport with their students, giving them the skills and guidance required to realise their full potential.

Our staff also work in close collaboration with industry experts from our partner organisations, delivering hands-on learning and creating meaningful workplace connections.

GEORGIA REIDGRADUATE CLASS OF 2017Since graduating from SEDA College, I have since enrolled into the College at the University of Western Sydney to complete a Diploma in Arts/Bachelor of Arts (Pathway to Teaching). By completing this pathway, I will then be able to transfer into second year at the University.

Whilst in Year 12 I completed work placement with Cricket NSW in two different departments Event Management and Game Development, both ended up offering me work once I had left school. During the Big Bash League and Women’s Big Bash League, the Sydney Sixers Event Management Team offered me a position as an Assistant Floor manager for all the home games. For this role I had to ensure that the MC’s were in the right place and cue them once we had found something that was going to entertain the crowd. As a Game Development officer, I run programs at primary and high schools. These programs are designed to teach the students cricket skills, in a fun and inclusive way.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?


NICK APPLETON GRADUATE CLASS OF 2017My time as a SEDA student was fantastic. Everything I learnt helped me once I had graduated. It allowed me to know what l wanted to do and how to achieve it, so l believe I was a step ahead coming from SEDA.

Once l left l became a Casual Development Officer for Cricket NSW. The mindset and goal l had as a casual was to involve myself in as many tasks and opportunities that were presented to me. Along with that, l applied for two diplomas at TAFE NSW which were a Diploma in Sport and Recreation Development and Management, and a Diploma of Business Management.

During the cricket season I was able to work with the Sydney Thunder. The work opportunities and experiences they gave me were unforgettable, from working on game day events, fan day coordination and the Thunder Nation Cup competition, it was a great experience.

While working at Sydney Thunder in November, l applied for a full-time role at Cricket NSW as a Participation Officer. I was fortunate enough to be offered the role which I gladly accepted. The duties of this role include casual staff management, program facilitation and organisation, stakeholder relationships and much more. On reflection, I can see that a lot of my duties at Cricket NSW have been much easier to learn and perform because of my two fantastic and insightful years at SEDA.

LACHLAN ANCHIQUEGRADUATE CLASS OF 2017Towards the end of Year 12 at SEDA college I had the opportunity to complete a STAT test, which allowed me to eligible, without an ATAR, to attend university. In 2018, the year after I finished at SEDA, I commenced a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at Australian Catholic University.

Directly after completing Year 12 I applied for and commenced a role as Game Development Officer for Cricket NSW, completing the same roles which I’d done at SEDA during clinics. I have been working with CNSW ever since.

Soon after commencing university I applied for an internship at Newington College with the high-quality Strength and Conditioning staff at the school. I was successful and was an intern from February to December. I was lucky enough to become a paid Strength and Conditioning Coach at Newington at the conclusion of my internship and have been working at Newington College since.

I am also soon to commence an internship with the Strength and Conditioning Staff at Parramatta Eels with the Senior Talent Squad, which I was able to obtain through connections at Newington College.
