LAB *Lab  programı:  •  Science  dersini  alan  (Scie  103,  107,111)  bütün  öğrenciler  ortak  laboratuvar  alıyorlar.  Herbir  öğrenci  iki  haPa  ara  ile  2B  saaQ  uzunluğunda  deney  yapıyor  .  Dönem  boyunca  toplam  6  deney  var.  

•  Laboratuvara  kaVlım  zorunlu.  Girmedikleri  her  lab  için  dersten  aldığı  harf  notu  bir  düşütülüyor  (B+  dan  B‘ye  gibi).  

•  Öğrenci  6  labdan  60%  (toplamda  300)  toplayamazsa,  aldığı  science  dersinden  kalıyor.  Notlandırma:  •  Öğrencinin  aldığı  science  dersinin  21%’ini  lab  puanı  oluşturuyor.  Her  bir  deney  3.5  puan.

Important Concepts in Biology:

The  classificaQon  of  organisms  

•  The  binomial  system:  developed  by  Carolus  Linnaeus  (1707-­‐78).    

•  Each  organism  has  two-­‐part  names  in  LaQn.  •  The  branch  of  biology  that  idenQfies  and  names  organisms:  Taxonomy  

•  Homo  sapiens  (H.  sapiens):  Homo  refers  to  genus  and  sapiens  refers  to  species  name.  

Evolution accounts for the unity and diversity of life:

There  are  3  domains  of  life:  Bacteria,    Archaea  and  Eukarya

•  The domain Eukarya includes three multicellular kingdoms: – Plantae

– Fungi – Animalia

•  Other eukaryotic organisms were formerly grouped into a kingdom called Protista, though these are now often grouped into many separate kingdoms
