Letter from President Letter from President, Ray Biggs
As I write to the membership, the staff at Lincoln Hills Golf Club is busy preparing, planning, and budgeting for a
successful 2017 season. Simultaneously, your Board of Directors has been busy working with staff on developing
a full calendar of golf, tennis, and social events.
Improvements Made in 2016:
During 2016, we set out to make improvements to many areas of the Club. On the course, work was completed on
the 13th and 15th tee boxes, a new set of forward tees was added throughout the course, and, most importantly, we
had a successful transition of our golf superintendent to Dan Contreras in late July. Using the results of our mem-
ber survey, significant changes were made to the food and beverage offerings. These changes resulted in in-
creased usage by the members of both the dining facilities and the Club’s Great Room for special events and wed-
dings. We continued to leverage better pricing and industry “best practices” through our affiliation with Renais-
sance Golf.
Financial Performance in 2016:
Our revenues in 2016 were $1,451,228 compared to $1,372,517 in 2015. The increase is primarily due to golf
revenue being up over $38,000 and food and beverage revenue being up approximately $39,000 from the prior
year. This revenue increase is also especially significant as active memberships decreased by 12 and social
memberships increased by 16.
Overall, the Club had net income of $11,811 in 2016 compared to a net loss of $56,629 in 2015. This increase in
cash flow allowed the Club to reduce its reliance on line of credit and we were able to reduce the mortgage
balance to $119,665 as of December 31. The mortgage balance on December 31, 2015 was $159,165. Attributing
factors to this decrease in mortgage balance was the sale of a lot, owned by the Club, that was adjacent to STIX on
M116 and our normal payments.
Looking Forward in 2017:
In 2017, the Board of Directors and Management are focused on the following items.
Clubhouse:
Replacement of the carpet throughout most of the facility
In the fall of 2016, one member of the club shared with the Board that they would make a very generous
pledge towards re-carpeting the facility. Three bids have been received from carpet contractors and the bid
to replace all of the carpet, excluding the Pro Shop and Greenside Pub, is approximately $55,000. Two
board members are working on a fundraising effort to raise money to help offset the overall cost to the
Club.
Modifications to the Lounge area: changes to the fireplace area, increased use of the planters, and a
possible divider to provide privacy
Enhancements to the outside/patio: potential addition of a fire pit and shaded areas for dining purposes
Greenside Pub: adding character to the space by using hanging plants, table coverings, artwork, etc. to
enhance this very utilized space.
Creating a true family destination (many members have requested this):
* At least once a month have family nights that would have activities and dining for the children
and the parents/grandparents would dine in the lounge
* Fun activities outside for children on certain evenings during the summer
* Special menus for our younger diners

Golf Course
Will be adding several waste areas (playable from in-play areas) to improve visual aesthetics, decrease
mowing areas, and save on equipment wear due to the damage sustained from tree roots
Tennis
The use of our tennis facilities continues to increase including the Monday and Wednesday tennis groups.
In 2017, we will be budgeting for the future re-surfacing of our tennis courts as well as modest improve-
ments to the overall area located around the courts. The ladies tennis group as begun fundraising efforts
that have received contributions from club and tennis players of over $5,000 for the resurfacing and is very
much appreciated.
On the following page is the financial dashboard as of December 2016 for your review. We wish everyone a safe
remainder of winter and look forward to seeing everyone back in Ludington this spring.
Sincerely,
Ray Biggs

Message from General Manager & Superintendent News from General Manager Rick Dewling
I’d like to start by thanking the entire membership for making the 2016 Season at Lincoln Hills such a pleasant
and successful one. As you noticed throughout the year, the golf course was in fantastic condition and the board
and staff have worked hard on improving the dining experience. We appreciated your comments on both the
survey and comment cards and have read each one and took the suggestions to heart. As you will note, the
service level and quality of food has improved. I have heard so many great things regarding the various events
throughout the year and also about the Thursday Italian Night, Friday Night Buffet, and Sunday Brunch. We feel
that we are heading in the right direction to offering you the best options in town!
Now is the time that I need to thank the staff at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. They work extremely hard to make
sure your time at the club is enjoyable. From top to bottom, the staff is what makes this club great. Hats off to
all of them! And, on behalf of the staff, we would like to thank all the members who contributed to the staff
during the holiday season by donating to the Employee Holiday Fund. Monies received from this were
distributed to all golf course staff, kitchen staff, office staff, bartenders, and service staff based on the length of
service to the club as well as the degree of responsibility the position holds. 100% of the contributions were
distributed to the staff. We are grateful to all those that contributed to this fund.
The club is looking at a couple improvements this winter and new specials this season. We are upgrading our
phone system and have been working with a company on a replacement solution that will make things much
easier for all. In addition to our Thursday Italian Night, Friday Night Buffet and Sunday Breakfast Brunch we
are adding Beer, Burger and Brat night to Monday, Ladies Night Drink and Appetizer Specials to Tuesday and
Steak House Grill Night to Wednesdays. We will also be featuring Happy Hour Drink and Appetizer Specials
Monday—Thursday from 3—6pm. Finally we have been working on a membership drive that starts with our
“Discover Lincoln Hills” event on Tuesday, May 16 from 5:30—8:00 pm. More information to come.
On page five you will notice that we gained many new members in 2016. This is a great start, but we will
always welcome more new members to the club. Please help out your club and mention to your friends,
neighbors, co-workers, etc. about your wonderful experiences at Lincoln Hills. If you have any questions about
membership, please give Erica or myself a call and we can cover our current membership options.
Sincerely,
Rick Dewling

News from Superintendent Dan Contreras
Greetings from the maintenance crew! We are plugging along nicely with the winter repair of our reels and
equipment. This is an important process this time of year in order to avoid breakdowns in season. My obvious
goal is to have them done by the time the snow melts but judging by the strange winter weather we have had
so far, I may have to step up our efforts. Last fall, we accomplished an amazing feat with the removal of 60+
trees that were dead, dying, or just needed to be removed to help with grass survival. There will be many
stumps to grind up and holes to fill this spring. I was able to get our snow mold applications down, but due to
the strange weather we have had, am not 100% confident we will get through unscathed. The chemicals I put
down are designed to work under a layer of snow but the grass has been exposed far too long for me to be
comfortable. We will see what the spring brings us and will deal with it promptly. If anybody would like to see
and hear firsthand of this process or program, come find me in the spring! Having an informed membership
helps us all do our jobs better. Until the sun comes back, have a good winter!
