What is an eLearning Coach?• I want to help the students at Lincoln School
to become better students.
What is Digital Citizenship?
• Using electronic, computerized technology responsibly and knowing how to stay safe.
Netbook Acceptable Use
Three areas to cover today.

What is Digital Citizenship?• Before the digital world, we were expected to
make good decisions and treat others with respect.
What is Digital Citizenship?• Behind every username and avatar is a person
with feelings.
Digital Footprint• Everything you do online has our names
attached to it invisibly.
Staying Safe• The digital world can be used as a tool for
powerful and positive learning.
• Inappropriate material also exists online.
• Filtering software is installed on our network and on the netbooks.
• Please review the EVSC internet policy.
Staying Safe• Each netbook has software that provides virus
protection.
Staying Safe• Keep personal information like addresses,
phone numbers, and passwords to yourself.
Staying Safe• Never agree to meet anyone you do not know and
only met online.
Staying Safe• People online are not always who they say they are.
Staying Safe• Students should always keep parents and school
personnel aware of their online activity.
Optimum Performance• Shut the netbook down each night and restart
it at school each morning to get the latest updates.

let you.• Keep music, movies, and t.v. shows off of the
netbook• Pictures and videos made with the webcam
should be for school projects.• The netbook is a Learning Tool, not a game
machine. • Use your home computer and personal
devices for that.

its true.

Make this a habit every night.
Netbook Care• How to carry• Cleaning/Touching the screen• Battery Life—charge each night• Keep it locked up• Extreme heat/cold can damage them• General Care– Eating and drinking– Don’t leave unattended– Don’t create hazards with the cords
Netbook Care• Do not remove or change the
physical structure of the netbook.
Netbook Care• Do not try to remove keys, the
serial number, or anything that will permanently alter it in any way.
• Doing so will void the warranty and could cause you to pay for it.
Netbook Care• Keep the screen closed when
carrying it.
• Pack it in the case when going long distances. (Always store it in the case)
• Don’t squeeze the netbook—this includes in backpacks.
Netbook Care• Don’t sit objects, like a pencil on
your keyboard.
• If you forget it and close the screen, it can damage it.

• They are your responsibility, however it belongs to the EVSC.
• You are $$ financially responsible for them if they get damaged.
• To replace one costs $500!!
The Battery• Develop a routine to charge it
• Close the lid on netbook when not in use to save power and protect screen.
• Keep the charger cord clear of where people will be walking.
Personal Health and Safety• Don’t use the netbook on the bus or at
ballgames.
• Avoid using it for long periods of time while it is sitting on your lap. It gets too hot.
• When typing and using the touchpad for long periods of time, take breaks or plug in an external mouse or keyboard.
How to handle problems
• Report to Building Tech or Teacher• Follow the repair procedure• Do not go have a netbook
repaired somewhere else.
Student Success• Having access to technology is
essential• We need to learn how to live in the
digital world• Working together we can provide
you with the 21st century skills necessary to live and learn today and into your future.
