You can drag and drop most sections on your profile to highlight what you consider to be most important.
For the multi-lingual amongst us, add ‘Languages’ to your profile.
Use job descriptions in your field to write describe your professional experience

you? Will you connect only with people that you have met
personally and worked with professionally? Or will you find a middle ground?
Only you can choose the best solution for your networking needs. (I tend towards the middle.)

Rather than joining a large number of groups, choose just a few and participate actively
Sign up for group emails Choose the order of your groups, and which ones
appear on your profile

Every recommendation you give appears on your profile
You can choose which recommendations you receive appear on your profile, and ask people to edit or rewrite their recommendations of you
Try to get recommendations for supervisors, supervisées and colleagues. And do the same!
7. Companies on LinkedIn
Follow companies to stay abreast of company news
8. Twitter
Add your Twitter account to your LinkedIn profile But use it sparingly! Choose the hashtag option.
This will help avoid innundating your contacts with all your Twitter messages.
