Armstrong is proud to offer commercial flooring solutions for every

customer, every budget and every project. As one of the most

sustainable options in resilient flooring, LinoArt™ linoleum is a choice

you can depend on to provide years of satisfaction and performance.

Begins SustainableArmstrong® linoleum sheet is 100% BioBased Certified*, made up of

98% organic and mineral-based raw materials, over 70% of which are

naturally renewable. No plasticizers, chlorine, crude oil, or heavy metals

are used in the manufacturing process. Our linoleum products

contribute to a low VOC environment and are clearly a sustainable

flooring choice for commercial spaces.

Remains SustainableWith flooring, a long life cycle provides the ultimate in sustainability.

Spaces designed with LinoArt linoleum can remain beautiful for decades,

even in the face of heavy traffic, rolling loads and caster wear. As a true

through-pattern product, the colors and patterns extend through the

entire floor, providing even wear and a consistent appearance.

Since it is naturally insulating and our colors are light reflecting, linoleum

can help reduce energy used for heating, cooling, and lighting.

Our dimensionally-stable and modular Granette™ tile provides multiple

shapes and sizes to mix, match, and create an endless variety of

patterns. Our newest linoleum sheet, Rhythmics,™ is a contemporary

linear design which can provide directional wayfinding throughout

spaces. And, our Marmorette™ and Colorette™ linoleum have been

updated to provide you with the newest color trends. The full range of

the LinoArt collection provides natural flooring that coordinates easily

with existing interiors and finishes for total design flexibility.

Armstrong linoleum is customizable, enabling you to easily create unique

graphics, logos, school emblems, and wayfinding solutions.

Easy Maintenance = Lower Life Cycle CostsLinoArt linoleum can play a key role in keeping maintenance and labor

costs down for facility owners and managers. The new NATURCote™ II

high performance coating, featured on all LinoArt products, reduces the

amount of cleaning products required. Routine maintenance can be as

easy as mopping and autoscrubbing, eliminating time and disruptions

from stripping and polishing.

LinoArt™ Linoleum Resists:• Wear in high traffic areas• Indentation from furniture, rolling carts

and casters, dropped objects• Rips, tears, and gouges

NATURCote™ II High Performance Coating Resists:• Scratches and scuffs from foot traffic• Dirt build-up and stains• Damage from alcohol-based hand sanitizers• Damage from accidental exposure to high pH

cleaning chemicals

Armstrong Continues to Innovate with NATURCote™ II High Performance CoatingThe built-in performance of the new NATURCote™ II coating withstands

scratches and scuffs from foot traffic in heavily traveled areas. This

new coating also provides resistance to soiling, stains, and damage

from accidental high pH cleaning chemicals and alcohol-based hand

sanitizers, all helping to maintain the richness of the linoleum’s original

installed appearance, even in high traffic conditions.

Acoustical DesignWhen acoustics are considered in design, it can improve concentration,

healing, and learning, and may prevent unwanted distractions. Best

design practices should consider aesthetics and acoustical performance

of materials and linoleum with a noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of

0.05 to achieve this combination. Linoleum is comparable with rubber

tile flooring* in terms of NRC, but when acoustical performance is

coupled with naturally sustainable attributes such as low VOC emissions

and biobased content, it is easy to see why linoleum is an all around

great sustainable choice for acoustical design.

Long Life for High Traffic Spaces From the school corridors travelled by generations of students to hospital hallways subject to thousands of patients, carts, and gurneys, LinoArt™

linoleum maintains its color and beautiful appearance. The through-pattern construction makes it the ideal choice for lasting durability in high

impact environments.

Before Armstrong calls a floor durable, it’s put through extensive testing, and then tested some more. Armstrong® floors meet or exceed ASTM

International Standards. They are additionally tested to any number of over 150 flooring-related tests, many of which are Armstrong proprietary.

This ensures the flooring products can withstand ever-moving furniture, rolling casters, soil, stains, falling objects, tears, scratches, indents, and

anything else a commercial environment encounters that can impact the fit and finish of a floor.

Why do we test our floors so extensively? So your Armstrong flooring will perform and look great for years to come.

Limitations Linoleum products should not be used in the following areas:• Hospital operating rooms• Commercial kitchens and commercial food-processing areas• Heavy industrial areas• Exterior areas• Where pointed spikes such as golf or track shoes will be used• Where the floor will be subjected to unusually concentrated static or

dynamic loadsNOTE: Concentrated static and dynamic loads such as hospital beds, roll-out bleachers, portable x-ray machines, etc., may visibly damage resilient as well as other types of floor coverings. For questions regarding product suitability and detailed instructions for floor preparation and installation in these applications, please contact Armstrong.

Suitable for Application Over• Concrete, terrazzo and other dry, structurally sound monolithic

subfloors, which are suspended on grade or below grade.• Suspended wood subfloor construction with approved wood

underlayments, and a minimum of 18 in. (45.7 cm) well ventilated air space below

• Steel, stainless steel, aluminum and lead, and most existing single-layer resilient floors on approved underlayments

• Radiant-heated subfloors with a maximum surface temperature of 85° F (29° C).

Unsuitable for Application Over*

• Subfloors where excessive moisture or alkali is present• Sleeper-constructed wood subfloors• Lightweight aggregate concrete subfloors having a density of less than

90 lbs. per cu. ft. (1442 kg/m3) or cellular concrete having a plastic (wet density less than 100 lbs. per cu. ft. (1602 kg/m3)[94 lbs. per cu. ft. (1506 kg/m3) dry weight], or concrete having a compressive strength of less than 3500 psi (24 Mpa). Concrete slabs with heavy static and/or dynamic loads should have higher design strengths and densities calculated to accommodate such loads.

Concrete curing agents, sealers, hardeners, or parting agents should be removed.

INSTALLATION Job Conditions Subfloors/underlayments shall be dry, clean and smooth. They shall be free of dust, solvents, varnish, paint, wax, oil, grease, residual adhesive, adhesive removers, permanent markers and other foreign materials that might affect the adhesion of resilient flooring or cause a discoloration of the flooring from below.

Spray paints, permanent markers and other indelible ink markers must not be used to write on the back of the flooring material or used to mark the concrete slab as they could bleed through, telegraphing up to the surface and permanently staining the flooring material. If these contaminants are present on the substrate they must be mechanically removed prior to the installation of the flooring material

For more detailed requirements of concrete, wood and metal subfloors, as well as trowelable and wood underlayments, refer to the installation instructions at armstrong.com.

Moisture testing must be performed on all concrete slabs regardless of their age or grade level including areas where resilient flooring has

already been installed. Moisture Vapor Emission Rate (MVER) using Calcium Chloride (ASTM F1869) and/or percent internal relative humidity (ASTM F 2170) tests must be conducted in strict accordance with the most current edition of the ASTM test method. Following are Armstrong’s maximum allowable moisture limits:

When using S-780 Adhesive, moisture test results shall not exceed a MVER of 5.0 lbs. /1000 sq. ft. /24 hrs. per ASTM F 1869 and/or 85% RH per ASTM F 2170.

When using S-240 Adhesive, moisture test results shall not exceed a MVER of 5.0 lbs. /1000 sq. ft. /24 hrs. per ASTM F 1869 and/or 80% RH per ASTM F 2170. NOTE: S-240 ADHESIVE CANNOT BE USED TO INSTALL LINOLEUM TILE.

On installations where both the Moisture Vapor Emission Rate and percent internal relative humidity tests are conducted, results for both tests shall comply with the allowable limits listed above.

Before installation concrete floors should also be tested for pH following the procedures in ASTM F 710. When testing for pH, the allowable readings for the installation of Armstrong linoleum sheet flooring are 5 to 11 when using S-780 and 5 to 9 when using S-240.

Bond Tests should also be conducted for compatibility with the substrate.

Temperature shall be maintained at a minimum of 65° F(18° C) and a maximum of 100° F (38° C) for 48 hours prior to installation, during installation and 48 hours after completion when using S-780. When using S-240, the temperature shall be maintained at a minimum of 65° F(18° C) and a maximum of 85° F (29° C) for 48 hours prior to installation, during installation and 48 hours after completion. A minimum temperature of 55° F (13° C) shall be maintained thereafter. Condition all flooring materials and adhesives to room temperature for at least 48 hours prior to starting installation. Protect all materials from the direct flow of heat from hot-air registers, radiators, or other heating fixtures and appliances.

ProcedureArmstrong linoleum tile must be installed full spread using Armstrong S-780 Adhesive. Armstrong linoleum sheet products must be installed full spread using Armstrong S-780 Adhesive with the option to use S-580 Adhesive in flash cove areas. Seams must be heat welded or adhered with Armstrong S-761 Seam Adhesive. In areas with heavy concentrated static or dynamic loads, it may be necessary to install linoleum sheet with S-240 High Performance Epoxy Flooring Adhesive. Detailed installation instructions can be found at armstrong.com.

MAINTENANCE LinoArt™ linoleum sheet and tile are designed to be maintained by traditional resilient flooring maintenance methods. The urethane protective finish may make initial maintenance easier, as well as reduce ongoing maintenance procedures.

Initial Maintenance Immediately After Installation• Sweep, dust mop or vacuum the floor thoroughly to remove all loose

dust, dirt, grit and debris.• Remove any dried adhesive residue with a clean, white cloth

dampened with mineral spirits, carefully following warnings on the container.

• Damp mop with a properly diluted neutral detergent solution such as Armstrong S-485 Floor Cleaner.

• Do not wet mop, wash or scrub the floor for at least five days after installation.

• If maintaining LinoArt linoleum with polish, as temporary measure, apply a minimum of two coats of high quality commercial floor polish such as Armstrong S-480 Floor Polish to protect the floor until regular maintenance procedures can be started.

NOTE:Before applying polish, it will be necessary to first scrub the floor with a properly diluted neutral cleaner using a floor machine fitted with a blue scrubbing pad (3M blue or equal).
