Send news to [email protected] For the first time since KMG began compiling stats, the Average Age of the Country listener has reached 45 years old. This comes after eight years of being either 43 or 44 years old, and up from a 1993 and 1994 low of 38 years old. The format is now 55% Women, 45% Men. And, our thanks to KMG EVP Gerry Boehme and VP/Dir. Of Research Lisa Chiljean for providing the data. Live At CRS! BMI and Country Aircheck are sponsoring the WCRS Live! acoustic songwriter performance on CRS Thursday (3/6) from 4:10pm to 5:30pm in Nashville. Casey Beathard, Eric Church, Dean Dillon and Jennifer Hanson will perform. ASCAP’s KCRS Live!, scheduled for CRS Wednesday (3/5) will feature Dave Berg, Tony Mullins, LeAnn Rimes, Neil Thrasher and Phil Vassar. The events runs 5-6:20pm at the Convention Center. And perhaps the week’s most coveted performance slot is still up for grabs. As we told you in January (CAT 1/7), Garth Brooks will perform with someone chosen from the audience during Wednesday’s opening session. To register arrive at the session at 10am on March 5, write the title of the Garth song you’d like to perform on the back of your business card, drop it in the Garth box at the entrance and cross your fingers. Katz: Shares, TSL Down; Age Up The Katz Media Group’s analysis of Fall 2007 Country Arbitrons shows a dip in format shares on a national level, declining TSL levels and an average-listener age that is the oldest in the 17 years KMG has been doing its studies. The Fall 2007 Average Market Format Shares show Country declining from a Fall ‘06 14.9 to 14.3 in Fall ‘07, the lowest figure since 2003. The good news is Country is still No. 1, leading Rock (14.1), AC (13.1), Urban (12.6) and News/Talk/Info (10.9) in the broad format categories that achieved double digits. The Specific Format Average Market Shares show Country leading with its 14.3, followed by Hispanic at 8.1, Urban Contemporary at 7.0, Top 40 with 6.8, News/Talk with 6.5 and AC at 6.4. The Average Market Format Shares reached the highs of 18.0 in the Fall of 1992 and 1997. The 17-year low is 13.5 in Fall 2000. Country’s TSL declined in every one of 10 categories measured. Worse, each TSL cell – Men and Women, 25-54, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54 and 55-64 – hit 17-year lows. TSL among Men 25-54 was (in hours:minutes) 7:21, down from 7:34 in Fall ‘06. Historically, it was off from its 8:31 in Fall ‘02, below 9:30 in Fall ‘97 and down from its 17-year high of 11:30 in 1990. TSL among Women 25-54 fell from 6:57 in Fall ‘06 to 6:33 in Fall ‘07. It was 7:55 in Fall ‘02, 8:57 in Fall ‘97 and its 17-year high also came in 1990 when it was at 10:29. TSL across the demo board: 25-34, M 6:29, W 5:26; 35-44, M 7:17, W 6:31; 45-54, M 8:12, W 7:37; 55-64, M 8:21, W 8:00. Again, all are at 17-year lows.
