MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to Lisarow Public School

Our school is a proud public primary school in a beautiful rural setting. We are lucky to have a caring staff whose use innovative ideas to provide education of the highest quality for all students. The school has a fine tradition of close ties with our community and a large group of parents, grandparents and friends of the school who support and assist us in many ways.

We invite new parents to join us in participating in your child’s education and to help us maintain the high standards expected. We have an active and supportive P&C association.

Parents should feel free to visit the school as often as they like. There are many activities available for parents to be involved in. Being involved in school activities also creates closer ties and enhances communication between home and school. Education is seen by us as a partnership between school and home. We will do all we can to assist your child settle into our school and we would appreciate your interest, co-operation and participation as a school parent. I hope that this book will be of value as a ready reference and source of information about the school and its policies.

I invite you to take an active interest in your child and school by attending the P&C meetings held on the second Wednesday evening of each month starting at 7.30 pm and joining in the discussions on all aspects of school life.

If a problem arises please contact the school so that we can endeavour to work out a solution. Most problems arise due to misunderstandings and these can usually be resolved through discussion.

A newsletter is sent out fortnightly to inform parents of day-to-day happenings at the school. Each term a calendar is sent home showing major forthcoming events and the school App is a great source of communication. Our school website also includes all of our notes, calendars and other information. Your support for the school through both educational and social activities will be welcomed and appreciated. Assistance can be given by serving at the Canteen or helping with classroom activities.

We trust your child’s years at Lisarow Public School will be both enjoyable and rewarding. We look forward to a happy association with you and your children.

HISTORY OF LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

Lisarow Public School opened on 28th May 1928 after a battle to have a school commenced in 1907. Miss Hutchinson ran a private school in 1924 – 25. Eventually the land was purchased for 375 Pounds, cleared of fruit trees and the school built by a Mr Milligan for the sum of 598 Pounds.

The first headmaster was Mr McLachlan and 60 pupils were quickly enrolled. As assistant teacher, Miss Beetson, was appointed in August of 1928 and Mr McLachlan and Miss Beetson were married the next year. The original building was extended later in 1928 adding a second classroom and a series of teachers came and went with enrolments growing and declining over the years. The school bell came from the Lisarow Methodist Church and was moved to the school during the Second World War to be available if needed to call the people. It has retained its original beauty and blends in beautifully with our country environment. Student numbers grew slowly over the years until the opening of new housing estates in the area during the 1990’s led to a period of rapid growth. That growth levelled out in the early 2000’s at around 270 students. Over the last ten years it has remained steadily to its present level of around 275 students.

The school’s original block is still in use today.

PARENTS AND CITIZENS The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the school staffroom. The P&C has a Fundraising Committee, Uniform Shop Committee and a Canteen Committee which assist with different aspects of school organisation. All parents are cordially invited to attend meetings and take an active part in the life of the school and be involved in their children’s education. Minutes of each meeting are available on the school website. SCHOOL CANTEEN The School Canteen operates on four days each week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). Volunteers are always needed to help staff the canteen under the supervision of Michelle Cleverly on a roster system.

Lisarow School P&C Canteen operates as a Healthy Food Centre to complement and emphasise the school curriculum. Food is assessed according to Australian Nutrition Foundation Guidelines of low fat, low sugar and low salt.

Every effort is made to accommodate children with special diets; however, special dietary food as such is not generally available due to economies of scale and profitability.

As well as encouraging healthy eating habits and providing a service to the school community, our school canteen raises money to purchase equipment for the school. Your continued patronage is appreciated in our pursuit of these goals.

A separate canteen menu is available from the office or canteen. It is also available on our school website. If you are able to assist, please notify the canteen on 43621048.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC) This student organisation began in 1999. It has its own Constitution which includes Aims, Objectives, Class Representation and Code of Conduct. The meetings are held fortnightly and are run by the elected students. Agendas are set by the students, issues are discussed and decisions made after seeking the Principal’s approval. The SRC has its own letterhead and has the motto “responsibility and excellence in all we do”. An SRC executive is made up of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Speaker, Secretary, Treasurer, Ministers for Communication, Health & Safety, Education, Environment, Functions and Sport and are held by Year 6 students. All Year 5 and two representatives from Stage 2 attend the SRC meetings which are held on a Wednesday.

School Programs

Page 13: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

CURRICULUM The school curriculum is based on syllabus guidelines issued by the NSW Department of Education (DoE). Copies of these guidelines are available at the school for any parent who wishes to read them. Many of the particular policies that apply at Lisarow Public School have and are developed through discussion with parents at P&C meetings and as a result of parent surveys. Our School Council assists with Policy reviews and development. The Lisarow School policies, which detail what each teacher will teach, are grouped under the following headings which are laid down by the DoE. 1. English: Reading & Viewing Writing & Representing Speaking & Listening 2. Mathematics Number & Algebra,

Measurement & Geometry Statistics & Probability

3. Science and Technology 4. History & Geography Social Studies General Religious and Moral Education 5. Creative Arts Drama Music Visual Arts Craft 6. PD/H/PE Health Physical Education Personal Development As well as these six major learning areas the DoE says that there are a number of general educational issues which need to be integrated across the curriculum. These are: Multicultural Education, Aboriginal Education, Gender Education, Computer Education and Mass Media in Education. Other policies issued by DoE which the school uses are concerned with Student Welfare, (Child Protection, Personal Development and Drug Education), Education of Exceptional Students (Students with Special Needs, Students with Severe Intellectual Disability and Children with Special Talents) and the School Library. SCHOOL PROCEDURES These procedures in line with DoE policy at Lisarow are found within the six policy areas listed above. It is not possible to give details of all areas of the school curriculum in this booklet but the following items may be of particular interest. Full statements of the school curriculum are available for parents to view if required. ASSESSMENT & REPORTING Continuous assessment activities in all Key Learning Areas assess student achievement in relation to stage outcomes. These may include anecdotal records, work samples, standardised tests and written tests etc. A written report is provided to parents at the end of Term 2 and 4. Goal setting interviews take place Week 6 Term 1.

Page 14: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

PARENT / TEACHER MEETINGS Each teacher will address interested parents at a stage information evening early in the year to discuss general classroom procedure. The current procedure to reporting pupil’s progress to parents includes a 3-way interview at the end of Term 1 and written reports at the end of Terms 2 and 4. Of course, an appointment can be made at any time during the year to discuss your child’s progress etc. with the class teacher. Parent / teacher interviews are to be by appointment at a mutually-convenient time (this doesn’t include a one minute quick chat). Parents should be aware that information discussed may be passed on to the staff member’s Supervisor or Principal or District Consultant as part of the overall management of the child’s educational program. Parents should advise the teacher of the issue to be discussed when making a time for an interview. This will allow the staff member to have appropriate information on hand at the interview. Notes may be taken at the meeting to record the issues discussed, agreed action to be taken and personnel to be involved. Staff may include a support person for interviews as may the parent. These measures are in place to provide a better service. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Lisarow Public School is fortunate to have a computer “room” – Bailey Cottage. Thirty computers are set up and children have a weekly 40 minute technology lesson. Timetabling enables each class one lesson per week. Each classroom also has a minimum of three computers. The computers are Windows / IBM compatible platform. Access is available to the internet through the DoE network. Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and there are two connected classrooms set up in the library and one Stage 3 classroom. Assessment in this area is based on practical outcomes as detailed in a number of the official DoE curricula. This is now based on class teacher assessment or technology teacher assessment, depending on who teaches the technology class. An Internet Use Agreement and rules must be signed by parents and students before students can access the internet. Presentations are made by children each term, based on the HSIE / Science & Technology units and text types. SCHOOL LIBRARY The school library is one of the most important features of the school. Our new permanent library opened in 2010. Considerable sums of money have been spent to expand and update the book stock to make the reading material available to children extensive and interesting. Our school library is staffed by a Teacher-Librarian three days each week. Borrowing and return of books is arranged during the library lessons for each class. Each child needs a cloth library bag in which to carry books to and from school. All children are given a library bag as part of the Kinder Orientation Pack. Replacement bags may be purchased from the library or uniform shop. Parents are able to assist by encouraging their children to be regular borrowers by participating in their child’s borrowing and by ensuring that books are returned by the required date. Children have access to the library at lunchtime on the days the Teacher-Librarian is at school, for a range of activities including the internet, reading and craft. Our involvement in the Premier’s Reading Challenge is organised and promoted through the library.

Page 15: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

HOME READING PROGRAM The Home Reading Program is designed to complement and extend the School Reading Program. It aims to foster a love of reading and create the habit of reading by allowing the children to experience a variety of different types of books in an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere. Our children should be free to choose their own books on topics that interest them – just as we, as adults, choose our own leisure reading material. These books may be chosen from school, public library or from home. Each child is asked to read in a quiet place under parental supervision for approximately 10 – 15 minutes. Parents are then asked to sign and date the Home Reading Card. This commences in Week 2, Term 1 and concludes at the end of the year. In Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 after 25 signatures, children will receive a reading certificate and then as follows:

50 signatures Super Reader Award

100 signatures Certificate of Honour

150 signatures Reading Diploma

200 signatures Reading Expert

250 signatures Reading Genius

300 signatures Lisarow Merit Certificate + choice of prize from prize box

In Stage 2 the children will be given a home reading card for the term. If they reach 50 signatures for the term they receive a certificate at the end of the term. Children who receive a certificate for all four terms will receive a reward at the end of the year.

SCHOOL SPORT

Physical Education P.E. involves games and games skills, dance and gymnastics and is held on one day each week. Hats are required for protection as in the playground policy.

Fitness A fitness program operates that targets cardiovascular fitness and participation. Activities include power walking, jogging, relays, circuits, obstacle courses, vigorous games and partner activities. Warm up/cool down procedures are included, as are methods of fitness monitoring which develops an awareness of the benefits of regular physical activity.

Zone Trials Talented children are selected to try out in various sports at a Zone level. If successful, they can then progress to Regional, State and National level. Primary School Sports Association [PSSA] offer opportunities for students aged 8 to 13 to participate in various competitions. Our school is a member of the Brisbane Water PSSA.

Sports Development Clinics When the opportunity arises clinics are conducted in various sports by experts who visit schools to promote and develop their sport. As many children as possible are given the chance to participate.

Page 16: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

LAUNCH INTO LISAROW TRANSITION PROGRAM Launch into Lisarow is an early learning skills program for students starting Kindergarten. It is held for five 90 minute sessions in Term 4 This program is an opportunity for children and parents to meet and join in activities based on Early Learning Skills in Literacy and Numeracy important to beginning in Kindergarten. While children are working in group activities time will be available for parents to meet and have a tea or coffee to establish support networks for the following year. It also allows parents to meet and talk with other parents in the school, and to meet members from our School Committees such as: P&C, Uniform, Canteen and Fundraising Committees. How will the transition program run? The sessions begin with some shared reading and singing with a teacher, followed by group activities of craft, Maths and English. The children will also be taken on visits to various parts of the school. Sessions are run concurrently for parents and provide them with an overview of the school’s procedures and programs. SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES K-6 Assemblies are held from 2.15 pm each Friday on even weeks. Classes take turns to run the assembly and pupils are able to present their work to the rest of the school. Star Student Certificates, Merit and Principal’s Awards are presented to selected pupils during these assemblies. Co-operation awards and Home Reading Certificates are also presented regularly. Parents are welcome to attend these assemblies.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES The School has a practice of inviting visiting performers to the school each year. A variety of performers are engaged. ANZAC DAY, Easter and Remembrance Day are also observed.

PRESENTATION CEREMONY A presentation ceremony is held every year, at the end of Term 4. This involves all children K-6.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL Each year the children in Year 5 organise a farewell social for Year 6 at the end of Term 4.

CARE AND SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS A playground duty roster of teachers is developed each term where formal supervision is provided in the following periods: 8.25 – 8.55am Morning 2.55-3.10pm Bus Duty 10.55 – 11.15am Recess Circle Pick Up 12.40-1.35pm Lunch Hall Steps Teachers are rostered on duty during each of these times. Lunch is divided into two halves. During all duties teachers are expected to actively supervise students, enforcing rules and promoting sensible behaviour. Many accidents and problems can be short-circuited by alert action taken by teachers before escalation of a problem.

During each duty teachers are asked to give at least 5 playground behaviour awards in line with school expectations. They may also give a Playground Incident Notification to students who break the school expectations (see Playground Discipline Procedures). Accidents are reported to the office and a report filled out if necessary. Students should, in the first instance, see the teacher on duty before going to the office for any reason.

8.25 - 8.55 am Parents are reminded no teacher is on duty until 8.25 and so students who arrive before that time will be unsupervised. Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8.25 a.m. each day.

Morning Duty 8.25 - 8.55 am Parents and students are informed regularly that there is no supervision prior to 8.25 am and that they should not arrive at school prior to this time. Students sit on the verandah or stage area until 8.30 a.m. Between 8.30 and 8.55 non-running games and handball are played under the C.O.L.A. and in the lunch area. At 8.55 a.m. the bell rings and students go straight to class.

Recess 10.55 – 11.15 am Students move to the lunch area as soon as the bell rings and sit there until they have eaten their recess. They may then be dismissed and are to use the toilet if necessary. They may also play on the oval for the remainder of the play times, if the teachers on duty agree it is safe to do so. Lunch 12.40 – 12.50 pm Students eat lunch under supervision of their classroom teacher (or alternate arrangements) within classroom or specified lunch seat areas.

Lunch 1 12.50 – 1.10 pm Play time for students. There are three areas each supervised by a teacher: COLA and surrounds; basketball court and the oval; and play equipment. Teachers on play equipment also supervise sandpit. Lunch 2 1.10 – 1.35 pm At the half way point in time a bell rings and each teacher is replaced by a new duty teacher. The rules and practices remain the same. Teachers remain on duty until replacement arrives. Library The library opens at 1.10 p.m. (Lunch 2) each day the librarian is at school. Students may borrow or undertake a variety of activities in the library. Computers Bailey Cottage will be available on days communicated to students.

Page 24: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

Bus Duty At 2.55 p.m. students who travel by bus line up outside Bailey Cottage. The teacher will then lead the students to the bus stop on Fagans Road and supervise their entry to the bus. Waiting Students whose parents pick them up by car wait on the steps to the hall. Parents ar required to leave their vehicle to collect their child from the hall steps. The Principal supervises these students until 3.10 when parents will be phoned to arrange pick up. [Students not picked up at 3.10 come to the office where they are supervised until picked up]. Parents are asked to ensure students are picked up as soon as possible after school finishes [2.55 p.m.]. Parents take responsibility for their own child should they allow them to utilise the fixed equipment after the 2.55pm school bell. Due to the licence agreement YMCA will need to access the equipment from 3.10pm. Travel to and from school Lisarow school’s position can make travel to and from school challenging. MacDonalds Road has no footpath and parents are regularly advised to not allow students to walk to school on those roads. A footpath is provided for Fagans Road residents. The Safer Routes to School Program is developing plans for families to get students to school more safely. The bus company regularly visits with the Safety Bus Bike Education pedestrian safety are mandatory parts of the schools PD Health and PE program. Regular updates and advice to parents are provided via the weekly newsletter. The school liaises closely with the bus company also on this issue and supports their Management Plan. Their Code of Conduct is regularly reviewed with students and is shown on the application for bus passes. Bus Travel The bus company and school work together to try to ensure that all students are safe on their trips to and from school. Students are to sit down while on the bus and not to yell etc or undertake any action which may endanger other students. Misbehaviour may lead to suspension from bus travel. Safety demonstrations by the bus company are held each year and school staff ensure all students are settled on the bus before it departs. Circle Pick Up At the 2.55pm bell students who are being picked up at the Circle Pick Up area are supervised behind the school fence outside Bailey Cottage. A duty teacher will direct students to the appropriate vehicle using the marked pathways and parking bays. Additional parking is also available in this area and parents are encouraged to exit their cars to collect students. Parking Lisarow Public School is fortunate to have a large car park which parents can use to drop off and pick up students. Parents are asked to park safely and only in the designated car park. The staff car park is for staff, disabled access and deliveries ONLY! Parents can pick up students each afternoon from the verandah near the hall. Students are not to wait in the car park or leave the hall area unless their parent collects them. Parents are asked to pick up their students by 3.00 p.m. Parents are encouraged to use Fagans Road as a safer alternative for picking up and dropping off students. Any student left after 3.10pm will be escorted to the office for collection.

Page 25: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

CONCLUSION All playgrounds, due to their nature, shape and the energy of students can often be hazardous. Students are reminded regularly about sensible play and staff continue to be vigilant and provide active supervision during duty times. These procedures may change as circumstances change. Certain safety rules are to be upheld at all times: 1. Students are not to leave the school grounds to retrieve balls unless under direct

teacher supervision. 2. Students are to stay clear of workmen at all times. 3. No running on paved areas. 4. No hat, play under COLA areas. These rules are to be reinforced with students on a regular basis.

ABSENCES SCHOOL EXEMPTIONS/HOLIDAYS

Family holidays and travel during the school term are no longer considered under the Exemption from School Procedures. Travel outside of school holiday periods needs an Application of Extended Leave – Travel, available from the school. The Principal may accept a reason for travel during school term if it is in the best interests of the student, such as educational, social and participation reasons; this also includes family business, bereavement or other reasons, which should be specified on the application. The Principal may also decline to accept a parent Application of Extended Leave – Travel. The parent will be advised in writing. Travel outside of the vacation period is now counted as an absence for statistical purposes by DoE and will be recorded as Leave. It will count as an absence on your child’s attendance record. It is a Departmental requirement that all absences from school are explained in writing or verbally. Attendance records are checked regularly by the Home School Liaison Officer and continued unexplained absences are dealt with by District Office. If a note or verbal message is not received within seven days for an absence, a note will be sent home asking for an explanation. BOOK CLUB – SCHOLASTIC AUSTRALIA Twice a term each child has the opportunity to purchase from Book Club if they so wish. Order forms are sent home with the child. If they wish to order, please enclose money with order form and place in envelope with child’s name written clearly on the envelope. This is then given to the classroom teacher. Orders can also be completed online. Please make sure that orders are placed before the due date. Cheques should be made payable to Scholastic. CONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN TO SCHOOL BY BUS The bus service to convey children to and from school follows the same route morning and afternoon commencing at 8.25 am as follows: The route for Bus 2086(am), 2608(pm) via Fagans, turning around at Coachwood, MacDonalds, The Ridgeway, Fagans, Tuggerah, MacDonalds, Pacific Highway. Bus 37 via Tuggerah, Coachwood, Shirley, Frost, Sohier, Ourimbah, Chittaway, Pacific Highway. To be eligible for free travel i.e. School Opal card, pupils in Yrs 3-6 must reside beyond a distance of 1.6km straight line from the school, or 2.3km walking or further. Years K-2 (Infants) there's no minimum distance. It's essential for all School Opal card holders to tap on and tap off. Application for the School Opal card is made online. Print, sign and submit the form to the school for endorsement. The school will then forward the application to Transport for NSW for processing. Once approved, Transport for NSW sends the School Opal card to the home address given in the application. Lost or damaged School Opal cards should be reported online and a School Opal card replacement can be ordered, a fee may apply. By doing this, the old School Opal card will be cancelled and a new one will be mailed to the customer's preferred address within 5-7 days. While waiting for a replacement card, you should use a Child/Youth Opal card to travel if eligible. Pupils are under the control and supervision of the bus driver and should obey all instructions given by the driver. It is essential that pupils behave responsibly at all times and be safety conscious. The bus company or school has the right to refuse travel to any pupil who acts irresponsibly. Pupils must form bus lines each afternoon. Lines will then proceed, under supervision, to board the bus. The P&C, the children and the bus company have established a Bus Code of Behaviour as part of our Student Welfare Policy as follows:

Page 30: LISAROW PUBLIC SCHOOL

BUS CODE OF CONDUCT To ensure your safety and the comfort of other passengers: Students will:

Behave safely at all times. Respect the needs and comfort of other passengers. Respect bus property by not marking or damaging it. Always follow instructions about safety on the bus. School Opal card holders must tap on and tap off.

Students will not: Distract the driver except in an emergency. Smoke, eat or drink on the bus. Allow any part of their body to protrude from the bus. Fight, spit, use offensive language or place their feet on the seats. Alter, deface, misuse or fraudulently obtain a School Opal card. Give, lend or transfer their School Opal card to another student.

COUNSELLOR The service provided by the School Counsellor is one of our valuable resources. When an interview or testing by the School Counsellor is considered necessary, parents will be informed first and approval sought. Parents may request an interview with the Counsellor at any time. This should be made through either the classroom teacher or stage supervisor who will pass the request onto the Learning Support Team. EDUCATIONAL VISITS AND PERFORMANCES During each year, educational visits are arranged for either the whole school or groups of classes. These visits form an integral part of School Programs across all Key Learning Areas. A permission note is sent home prior to any planned activity. EDUCATION WEEK Education Week usually occurs during Term 3. An Open Day is often the main feature. Everyone is welcome to attend. END OF YEAR In the last weeks of the school year, presentations are made at a special Presentation ceremony, usually in the second last week. An end of year activity for students is normally held during the last two weeks of the year. Carols near the Billabong are also a highlight. HATS AT SCHOOL Hats are an essential part of the school uniform when children are playing outdoors. A “Hats at School Policy” has been adopted to safeguard children against skin cancer and to educate students in the protection against the sun’s harmful rays. Green school hats only, in either Legionnaire or broad-brim style, are to be worn. If children do not have a hat they must play in the shade of one of the cola’s or walkways. HOMEWORK POLICY It is policy that homework is given regularly. This varies from stage to stage and is explained at the Parent/Teacher evening by the class teacher. Homework is a useful aid to reinforce concepts, finish off quality work etc. If work cannot be completed a note from home is helpful. Homework should not be too burdensome on any child.

Early Stage 1 5 minutes plus home reading Stage 1 10 minutes per day Stage 2 20 minutes per day Stage 3 30 minutes per day

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS Kindergarten pupils are eligible to enrol at the beginning of first term if they will turn five by 31st July that year. All new enrolments require an Immunisation Certificate and proof of birth e.g. Birth Certificate or Passport and current proof of address. Applications to enrol for Kindergarten are taken from Term 2 of the previous year. LATENESS AND EARLY DEPARTURE If a student arrives at school after 8.55am, the following procedures need to be followed:

1. The student is escorted to the office by the parent/caregiver. 2. An entry in the Record of Absence book is completed by the parent/caregiver. 3. A printed slip is given to the student to take to class so teachers are aware the child

has been to the office. If a student has to leave school early, the parent/caregiver should ‘sign out’ the student at the office. The parent/caregiver is given an early leavers printed slip to hand to the class teacher. LOST PROPERTY All articles of clothing, books, pencil cases and school bags must be CLEARLY LABELLED with your child’s family name. Your child must be responsible for all personal articles. For child protection purposes, it is advisable that your child’s bag is not marked on the outside with their details. To avoid damage, theft and loss of articles students should not bring valuable articles, jewelry, toys or electronics to school. MONEY Payments for excursions, performances etc need to be in a clearly-marked envelope (preferably with correct money) and are to be handed directly to the class teacher. Payments can be cash, cheque, over the counter EFTPOS or the preferred option, Parent Online Payment (POP).

NEWSLETTER & COMMUNICATION During odd weeks of the school term a full newsletter is sent out. The Lisarow PS App is available for download onto smart phones and this platform is extensively used by the school. Notes sent home will be photocopied on yellow or white paper. If a note is yellow this notifies parents that they are kindly asked to respond with permission or money. PARENT INVOLVEMENT At the beginning of each year parents are invited to assist with indoor programs (Reading, Maths, Craft and Music etc) and outdoor programs (Sport, Excursions, Canteen, Working Bees). You will be notified at the beginning of each year which programs will be conducted. If you have any new ideas, special skills or suggestions that you would be willing to share with us, please let us know. Parent helpers are required to sign the visitor’s book which is in the office or the visitor’s sheet in the classroom and be aware of Department regulations relating to working with children. PARKING Due to congestion that develops in the school’s main entrance (staff carpark) and the dangerous condition of MacDonalds Road, the car park was provided at the western (playground) end of the school to allow parents to safely set down or pick up children. Your co-operation in using this area is appreciated. Parents should not park in the staff car park near the office. Alternatively children may be picked up or set down at the kiss n drop near Bailey Cottage; parents can also park on the East side of the same circular driveway. When using the car parks during school hours we ask parents to reverse into their parking space.

RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION & ETHICS This is held every 2nd Wednesday. We have a team of dedicated teachers from Catholic and Non Denomination who give their time voluntarily for this specific purpose. Respect for these visiting teachers is essential. The school also offers Ethics classes for students in Year 1 – 6. SCHOOL BANKING The Commonwealth Savings Bank operates a banking service for pupils. Details of School Banking are given early in Term 1. School Accounts receive interest no matter how small the balance. As there are no Government Charges/Activity Fees on these accounts, they are an excellent account for children to learn the importance of saving. Our school receives commission on all deposits and new accounts opened through school so banking at school also raises funds. School banking day is Wednesday. LIBRARY FUND Donations to the School Library Fund (which allows us to purchase resources for the library) are tax deductible. Funds collected are vital to our school. Please pay your library fund early. SPECIAL EVENTS

School Swimming Carnival – Yrs 3-6 held in February and any Yr 2 children who turn 8 yrs old and can swim 50mts.

Cross Country Carnival is held in Term 2. Yrs 3-6 and Yr 2 children who turn 8 yrs old. Athletics Carnival held at end of Term 2. Kindergarten to Yr 6. From these carnivals students from 8yrs to 13yrs are selected to attend the Brisbane

Water Zone Carnivals. PSSA STATE KNOCKOUT EVENTS Each year our school nominates the sports in which our girls and boys participate, usually football, cricket, basketball, touch football and netball. Children then try out for the privilege of representing the school. The school also nominates senior (Yrs 5-6) students to attend Zone trials in all PSSA sports. STEWART HOUSE Stewart House Preventorium at Curl Curl is an institution completely financed by the pupils and teachers of NSW Public Schools. It provides a complete holiday for pupils who, because of some particular circumstances, would benefit from a stay of about two weeks. The school raises funds for Stewart House each year. VARIATION OF AFTER SCHOOL ROUTINE At the commencement of each year, a note indicating that your child will be transported home by a person other than the immediate family is necessary if this is to be a permanent arrangement. If at any time throughout the year your child will be changing their regular routine and going home with someone else or in some other manner e.g. bus, private car, birthday party, grandparents etc. please notify the class teacher with a note on that particular day. This can save us suffering the trauma of a “lost” child when the child is not really lost at all and unnecessary distress to the child also.

Update change of address and any contact phone numbers

(including emergency contacts) as soon as possible.
