Learning with Mrs Flinn

Term 1, 2021 is here and we have a Primary classroom full of beautiful, smiling faces again! It has been so nice to see everyone after our break and we have enjoyed catching up on what we have all been up to over the holidays and returning to school routines.

This year we have two new students who have finished Year 2 in the infants classroom and joined us in Year 3 in the Primary classroom. Both students have been a welcome addition and have adapted quickly to our routines and expectations.

Bluearth and SportOn Tuesdays in Term 1 we will have Sarah from Bluearth visiting us every fortnight and on the weeks in between we will participate in Bluearth activities as a class on our own. These health and wellbeing sessions are designed to get students moving everyday through purposeful physical activity. It is important that students come dressed for physical activity on Tuesdays in order to fully participate in these sessions. Sport this term will be held on Fridays. For Term 1 we will be participating in cricket. Again it is important that on Fridays students come dressed in clothing appropriate for physical activity and remember to bring their hats and drink bottles.

In the ClassroomIn the classroom this week we have focused on putting our routines in place. This included working as a group to set our class expectations as well as what is expected of us in the school environment.

We have also been busy composing postcards from destinations we visited during the holiday break (or from destinations we may like to visit in the future). We reviewed the purpose and structure of a postcard and the students enjoyed sharing some of their holiday experiences.

We have also made a start on our SMART Spelling which we will utilise for 2021 and selected our first Passion Projects for this year.

Passion Projects are based on questions which students formulate on any topic they are curious or passionate about. Students are asked choose a topic, formulate a tricky question or two they would like to find the answer to and come up with a procedure for doing so through research or experiments etc. Once they have completed their research they present their Project to the class through a media of their choice – poster, Power-point, video etc. Our “I wonder” is currently full of questions and we are looking forward to seeing what the students create from their passions. Passion Projects create such excitement in the classroom and it is wonderful to see the students so excited to learn through an inquiry approach.

Dates to rememberOn the 19th February is the Small Schools Swimming Carnival. Please pencil that date into your diary for our Primary students. I will be there to supervise and will bring my best cheering voice!

Lastly, I would like to ask that you please call the school and chat to myself or Mr Schultz if you ever have any concerns or questions. It is important that we have open lines of communication so that we can support your children as much as possible. I too will be quick to call have a chat if and when it is needed.

Looking forward to a great 2021.

Mrs Flinn

Assembly

If you do want to have a chat or have questions, please contact us or pop in for a visit.

This week we have focused on getting to know our classroom peers, students settling into their classroom and learning our routines. Year 1 and 2 have begun to take on the role of helping our Kindergarten students learn these new routines whilst being so welcoming and wonderful role models to their peers. We are all so excited to start diving into our learning and achieving new goals!
