What do you know about Our Lady of Fatima and Her Messages???
In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Our Blessed Mother
and her apparitions to 3 shepherd children in Fatima
Portugal I will devote 2 lessons each month for your
information.
12th Lesson = The 4th Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima took place in the
month of August but not on the 13th day and not at the Cova. One of the
dark characters in this great story is the Chancellor of the region by the name
of Artur Oliveria Santos who possessed great political powers. He was a
Baptized Catholic who fell away from the faith by age 20 and joined the
Masonic Lodge. By trade he was a tin man and his achievements in formal
education was poor. One other area of power in his hands at the time was that
he was the publisher of the local newspaper and he would use this tool to
undermine the faith of the people.
The Apparitions of Our Lady were not welcome and the three little children became as a
threat to him and so he called for a hearing. The oldest seer, her Dad and the Uncle were to appear for
a hearing on August 12, the day before the Apparition. This town official was determined to learn
about the secret given by Our Lady but Lucia kept her loyalty to the Blessed Mother and there was no
threat that would change her mind.
On Monday, August 13 the Magistrate came to the home of the Marto Family pretending
that he wanted to go to the Cova to witness the Apparition. He finally coxed the children into his
carriage, he began in the direction of the Cova then hurried off to his office with the children. After
asking questions, after making nasty threats he put them in jail with all men who were serious
criminals. These men were moved at their plight. Each one tried to console these children by singing
and dancing. Finally the children said that had to pray the rosary. They knelt down to pray and all the
men but one also knelt down. One man stayed standing with his hat on. Francisco went to him and
told him we do not pray with our hat on. The man removed his hat then joined in the Rosary.
The Magistrate did all he could to scare the children into revealing the secret but nothing
worked. The large crowd of devotees were unhappy and were ready to do harm to this town official
and even to the Pastor for their bad decisions. The Uncle Ti was able to control the riot. The children
were finally released. On the 19th of August Lucia took the sheep to graze in an area called Valinhos.
All of a sudden Lucia recognize a change in the atmosphere and realized Our Lady was about to
appear. She sent her cousin to bring Jacinta from her home so she could be present. When Our Lady
did appear on top of a Holm Oak tree She thanked the children for their loyalty and their
faithfulness. The children took one branch where Our Lady stood. When their Mom smelled it she
said it did not smell like perfume, incense, or any kind of soap. The fragrance of the branch was truly
a beautiful smell and most unusual. This made the Mom change her mind, and she now accepted the
children’s story. ------------------------------------------
Don’t forget, pray the Rosary every day. This could be the best part of your day.
