How marvellous are the
consolations of our divine
religion. How rich it is in
noble thoughts, ardent
affections and supernatural
means of strengthening our
feeble hearts. Even of
transforming us, almost, even
into Angels.

Pope Francis describes Saint Joseph as a beloved father, a tender and loving father, an obedient father, an accepting father; a father who is creatively courageous, a working father, a father in the shadows. His Letter marks the 150th anniversary of Pope Pius IX’s declaration of St Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To celebrate the anniversary, Pope Francis has proclaimed a special “Year of St Joseph. The Holy Father wrote Patris corde considering the Covid-19 pandemic, which, he says, has helped us see more clearly the im-portance of “ordinary” people who, though far from the limelight, ex-ercise patience and offer hope every day. In this, they resemble Saint Joseph, “the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence,” who nonethe-less played “an incomparable role.

O come to the Waters
Water of Baptism
We have seen such expressions of
thirst! We have seen souls
thirsting for justice; souls thirsting
for freedom. Souls thirsting for
truth; souls thirsting for
transparency. We have seen souls
thirsting for the highest things;
thirsting for hope, thirsting for
peace!
The words of the prophet Isaiah
this Sunday will pierce our hearts.
The prophet cries out, “All you
who are thirsty, come to the
water!” What is the water? The
water is the wisdom and law of the
Lord! Just as life cannot continue
to exist without water, hearts will
continue to cry out in search of the
wisdom and law of the Lord.
We were made for this law. In the
here and now, what will quench
our thirst? The way of the Lord! If
we are baptized with him, we shall
rise with him! (Romans 6:3-5). He
is justice; He is freedom. He is
transparency; He is truth. He is
our hope; He is our peace!
The incident in Washington DC was the culmination of years of polarisation and divisions, so much of it fuelled by social media where people increasingly live in their own information ecosystems. In the echo chamber which is the dictatorship of relativism, people are unable to find common ground with those whom they disagree or even see objective truth. Believe what you want to believe, and make the truth what you want it to be. This has had catastrophic consequences for Trump supporters. For months, they have been fed a relentless diet of misinformation that the election was stolen from their president. The baseless claims are without evidence and have been rejected by every court who has examined them. Yet the Trump mob which invaded the heart of American democracy, egged on by an irresponsible president, continue to believe the claims to be true.
Anoosheh Ashoori: Prisoner of Conscience Please consider sending a picture postcard with a short, non-religious, message of hope to: Anoosheh Ashoori, Evin Detention Centre, Tehran Province, TEHRAN, District 2, Islamic Republic of Iran.Anoosheh is a retired engineer and dual UK-Iranian citizen unjustly sentenced in 2017 to 12 years in prison, as part of a pattern of arbitrary detention of dual nationals for political purposes. He has been tortured and denied important dental treatment in prison.

Lockdown for Wales and
England to curb the rapid
spread of COVID-19, Cardinal
Vincent Nichols, President of the
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of
England and Wales, said:
“The regular practice of our faith
in God is a well-established
source of both personal
resilience and dedicated service
to those in need. Such resilience
and enduring service are vital in
these difficult circumstances.

SPUC WRITES Last March the Government allowed abortion providers to send women pills in the post so that they can perform a DIY abortion at home. This is supposed to be a temporary measure during the pandemic, but now consultations on whether to make this practice permanent are being held in both England and Wales. We need as many pro-life people as possible to complete their relevant Government’s questionnaire to help stop dangerous DIY abortions
becoming permanent.
S.V.P, have some requests for used
laptops. These will be very valuable
for the students trying to follow
school lessons from home. Please
bring them to the parish house.
