NEW Sunday School Class: Discovering Discipleship

Pastor Bob and I want to extend to you a personal invitation to join us in an 8 week class where we will study the foundations in Christian discipleship. The class will meet in room 102 which is on the main floor of the north building starting at 9:15 on January 12, 2014. Being a part of this class would be a great way to start the new year off right. Just bring a Bible and come enjoy some hot coffee and nourishing snacks with some other brothers and sisters in Christ as we all grow together. Pastor Bob and I will look forward to seeing you on January 12th!

The Youth Ministry has a couple of big things in the upcoming weeks. Saturday, January 11th is Family Night Pizza and Bowling!! Invite the whole family to Pizza Street (75th & Quivira) at 5:00, then to Mission Bowl (5400 Martway.) $5 unlimited bowling for 2 hours (6-8) It’s gonna be a great time!

On Friday January 24th The FBC Shawnee Youth Ministry will be hosting a Purity Seminar for parents and grandparents. The purpose of this seminar is to protect your homes, and therefore students, against the dangers of internet pornography. We will provide dinner (nothing fancy), and Jason Presley will be presenting his expertise on such things as, computer placement, how-to networking tips, mobile device protection, and cost effective filtering programs. Please make this evening a priority. It is vital to your student’s lives, both spiritual and physical. If you would like more info on Jason Presley and his ministry, point your browser to www.phil48home.org

The students are taking a weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska for Dare to Share February 7th-8th. This evangelism conference is going to teach our students how to boldly and proudly proclaim Jesus to their friends. $50 covers everything. (Scholarships available; this might be the most important youth trip the church does.) Please talk with your student about going. The signup sheet is in the youth room!

We would like to express our thanks

while I was in the hospital. The flowers and visitors

were welcome. Thanks for those who brought in food

so I could work on walking. Most of all thanks for the

prayers for me and my family during the loss of my

sister. Yours in Christ,

Doris, John & Izzy Braden

We have been overwhelmed by the thoughtful-ness of our church family. The delicious cookies and fruit delivered by Mr. Bebermeyer were wonderful. Then Don and Norma Hall brought us pumpkin bread and a daily devotional book. We were blessed when Don and Norma brought communion to us. God bless you all, Carrie Beth & Ralph Knox

Thanks for the visits from Don & Norma Hall, Ray & Donna Rippee, phone calls, cards, delicious cookies from the ladies class, fruit basket and prayers that have been answered. Miss seeing you all, David & Norma Jones

To the Church Family: During my recent hospitalization at Shawnee Mission Medical Center a good

number of church family came by to support and pray with me. I thank each of you for being such faithful friends. I appreciate my church family and all they do to provide comfort and encouragement

during difficult times. —Love, Maxine Wallace

Happy New Year! Now we are about 1 week into 2014. I don’t know about you, but I am still wondering where the time has gone because it seems like 2013 just got here and now it is gone. It is strange yet helpful to take a look at where God has brought us over this past year. Much ministry has been done and lives have been forever changed. We have witnessed God move in our midst. 2014 is going to be a busy year. There is much work to be done, but I am confident that we are up to the task. Just a few high points as to what is coming in 2014, the Chancel Choir will be presenting three major programs; Easter, the Festival of Freedom, and Christmas, the Children’s Choir will be active in our worship services, there are major undertakings such as the Mexico Missions Trip and Judgement House, as well as Vacation Bible School and D-Now. These are just a few things that we are looking at in this year.

I want to encourage everyone to spend some time in prayer and ask God what he would have you do this year. Naturally, not everyone will be called to do everything, we are all different and God has different callings on us, but we are still part of one body.

Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; in service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Romans 12:6-8 ESV

I pray that we will all be attentive to the calling of the Lord on our lives in 2014. May we all be willing to follow where He leads!
