FEBRUARY 2020
L I V I N G
DEAR CLUB MEMBERS:2020 is off to a great start, with the most important change being the sale of Hammock Beach which transacted on December 31, 2019. We welcome our new ownership, KDG Capital and our new management companies, Aimbridge Hospitality and Troon Golf.
Aimbridge Hospitality will oversee all resort and hospitality operations. Troon Golf will oversee Club Membership and Golf operations. Representatives from Troon and Aimbridge were on site the full week of January 13 to better understand our complex Resort and Club and begin the strategic planning process for the future. In addition, Troon has launched a member survey which you should
have received already and we look forward to sharing the results with you once the results are compiled.
Our Advisory Board of Governors (ABOG) had the opportunity to meet with both Aimbridge and Troon executives while they were on site the week of January 13. This was a mutually beneficial meeting for all parties to better understand roles and responsibilities.
As both Troon and Aimbridge develop their strategic plans for the Resort and Club going forward, we are committed to communicating effectively and proactively to our Club members. One upcoming change will be moving the Member & Manager Receptions from monthly to quarterly. Therefore in 2020, our quarterly Member & Manager Receptions will be March, June, September and December, dates to follow.
The first quarterly Member & Manager’s Reception is scheduled for March 25 starting at 5:30pm. The Club has confirmed that representatives from KDG Capital, Aimbridge and Troon will be in attendance and share some of their vision for the Resort and Club as we move further into 2020 and the future.
We are pleased to share the creative update of our Resort and Club logos as they appear below. We believe these minor enhancements to our logos better define the experiences at Hammock Beach.
Again, we are thrilled to have the combined expertise of KDG Capital, Troon and Aimbridge onboard as we strive to enhance our amenities and services for our valued club members and guests.
Best regards, Brad Hauer, PGA General Manager

Dear Members,Now that the dust has settled and we are gearing up for another year, Joyce & I were reflecting on the amazing amount of support and love that the members and associates of Hammock Beach Resort so abundantly gave again this year.It always brings tears to my eyes when I walk up to the Christmas Tree in your lobby and see all the incredible gifts surrounding the tree, the hundreds of gifts of much needed clothing, toys and bikes that will bring so much happiness to the children and parents. The parents are always overwhelmed with the personalized Christmas dinner they receive for their family, which many of your residents purchased by giving Publix gift cards again this year.
I think of the parents and how they must be so overwhelmed when they see the love of our community which gives so much happiness to their children!
I can tell you that each parent is thrilled with what they receive. On distribution day, I hug and speak to every parent. The day we distribute all of the gift is always filled with tears of joy and hope. This year, the very first family for pick-up explained how their home had burned down overnight and that they were in a hotel with nothing except the clothes on their backs. We immediately began to contact organizations to help us make their stressful time a little more comfortable while we sorted out what to do next for them.
I truly wish everyone that gave to these families could see the happiness and gratefulness of each parent. I wish I could be a fly on the wall on Christmas morning, but I do have parents that send me pictures of their children and that makes my Christmas so very joyous!
I want each person that gave to our mission to know just how grateful we are that they believe in us and what a true difference they made in the lives of 155 families with 441 children this year. As January ends, we have already helped several families by giving them food and clothing while also helping them pay for utilities and transportation issues. The amount of help we have given to our clients in just a few weeks amounted to over $2,000. If anyone would like to learn more about what we do throughout the year and are interested in getting more involved, please go to christmascometrue.org.
We could not begin to provide such joy to our neighbors without the support of Hammock Beach Resort’s members and associates. We want to thank each and every person who gave to Christmas Come True in some way to provide the incredible Christmas joy for all of our children and their parents, and we look forward to working with you again in the years to come.
GRATEFULLY YOURS,
NADINE KING & ALL THE CHRISTMAS COME TRUE “ELVES”
A "THANK YOU" FROM CHRISTMAS COME TRUE

It is extremely important that we use our core muscles to swing the
club. Not only will this help to shallow out the swing plane but also
to create more power. On the LPGA and PGA tour, you will see many
different styles of golf swing. The one thing that makes them all
efficient, is the rotation sequence. Using your core muscles (chest,
back, torso) to rotate on the take-away, is a key ingredient to creating
the right sequence resulting in more power and consistency.

THE 3 VOLLEYS: BLOCK, PUNCH, SWING BY GENE PAUL LASCANO, DIRECTOR OF TENNIS
The volley is considered one of the easiest shots in the game of tennis, but it can also be the trickiest. Knowing the type of volley to use in a given situation is the tough part. To make things easier, remember that volleys fall into one of these 3 categories: the block, the punch, or the swing.
The main difference between the block, punch, and swing volleys, is how big your backswing is. The key variable used to determine how long or short your backswing should be on your volley is the speed of the approaching ball.
For example, if the ball is coming at you really fast, you should use the pace of the incoming ball and block it back. Many times this is more of a “reflex” shot where your racquet’s movement is extremely limited (photo 1).
In the event the incoming shot is coming with medium speed, do your best to punch through your volley. On a punch volley, you can increase the length of your backswing by simply turning your shoulders (photo 2).
On a slow and higher ball, increase your shoulder turn and also take your racquet back slightly (photo 3). This will allow you to move the racquet forward with a little more energy giving you more of an offensive swing volley.
Next time you’re at the net, do your best to adjust your backswing to the speed of the incoming ball and that will help you make the right volley---block, punch, or swing!

Driven by a desire to keep the legacy of The Carpenter’s musical artistry alive, Shannon Rae adds her own love of performing and connecting through her voice, to present to you “A Carpenter’s Tribute”. Shannon’s love of Karen Carpenter’s clean, clear, mellow sound, along with piano accompaniment, as Richard Carpenter provided, allows her to perform some of the most beloved songs on the 70s; the
“songs of the summer” for countless Carpenters fans. Hundreds of hours have gone into song selection and rehearsals to produce a show that you will recall for years to come; and leave you shouting “encore”. You may even hear some remarkable musical similarities to the superstars for whom this tribute was created. Shannon Rae, along with the talent of JJ Speights on piano will take you back to a simpler
time; your time, when this heart-felt music touched so many of our lives, with love.

Set a realistic goal - It is incredibly important when you start your fitness journey that you set a goal. Create a goal that encompasses your fitness level, strength, and flexibility and not just the numbers you see on the scale.
Find a routine you can stick to – Many great plans have fallen by the wayside because we start at a level we can’t sustain. It’s important to find a routine that works for you.
Don’t ignore weights - When you want to lose weight, more than likely you’ll think cardio first. Although cardio is a great way to burn fat quickly it won’t get you the toned body you want. Bring some weight training into your routine to build your muscle.
Keep a food journal - To stay on track keep a food journal and have a general idea of your caloric intake. Think about downloading MyFitnessPal and track your food each day to help you stay on track with your goals.
Eat the rainbow - Every color of food has a different type of nutrient. It is important to try and eat as many colors as possible every day as you move toward your goal of getting fit. When you see those stunning salad bowls on Instagram, the food is there for more than just photographic value!
Hydrate - Water is more important than anything else you could put into your body, so make sure that you drink at least 2 liters (68 ounces) of water every single day. Water is essential for keeping the body healthy in several ways. It can flush out bad bacteria and toxins, allows your cells to stay plump and more youthful looking, and it also provides the body with lubrication to run smoothly.
Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go the gym, it’s more about keeping your body in motion. Even the smallest movement counts and being active is all about having fun and living your life to the fullest.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GET FIT AND STAY FIT Donna Gialone, Lead Fitness Trainer and Nutrition Counselor, Hammock Beach Resort
If getting fit and staying fit is your ultimate goal, there may be a few things you’ll need to change. Being fit and healthy is more than just watching what you eat or only exercising; it involves a lifestyle change and a new way of looking at fitness and nutrition. Here are a few ways to help you get started:
