Introduction
Living with Jesus is a tool for discipleship. It can be used in a variety ofsettings, but perhaps the most effective will be in the context of child and parent.
The adult is named a ‘special friend’ in the material so this can be appliedto a parent or responsible adult.
The following guidelines will help you to achieve the best from the timespent with your child. Meet with one child at a time; each child is different!
1. Anticipate that you will change and grow with the child; apply the materialto yourself also.
2. Try to have one session a week with your child (values cannot be changedevery day!).
3. Living With Jesus aims to stimulate sharing and deepen relationships, sotake your time together in a relaxed, quiet environment.
4. The material is not designed to answer questions, but to reveal issues thatneed to be talked through.
5. If you are not the parent, always gain the permission of the parent. Showthem the material. Ask if they would like to join you as you meet with thechild. Stay in a place where you can be seen and heard by others, i.e. notbehind closed doors.
6. Remember that honest answers are ‘right’ answers.
7. If you are unsure how to react, or unsure of an answer, it is all right to tellthe child that you will talk about it again the next time you meet, and takesome time to pray or ask for help.
8. Find creative ways to learn the memory verse, i.e. put actions to it, draw apicture of it, fill in words, make them into plaques, etc.
Remember that this is one of the most important times with your child. Youhave all the wisdom and anointing of the Holy Spirit available to you. Enjoyyour time…have fun and expect Jesus to be at the centre!

Baptism

Baptism is when someone who is following Jesus goes into the water, right under it and then comes up again.
Jesus died on the cross, was buried in the grave and came alive again.
There are some very special times you will share together.

So we show that our old life is dead and buried and that we have a new life in the Kingdom of God.
We were therefore _ _ _ _ _ _ with
Him through baptism into _ _ _ _ _
in order that, just as _ _ _ _ _ _ was
raised from the dead through the
glory of the _ _ _ _ _ _ , we too may
live a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .
Being baptised is really important. It is something Jesus did and something He told us to do.
Now read Romans 6:4
Q Do you understand these verses? . . .
Can you draw the special pictures that tell us all about being baptised?
Baptism is when someone who is following Jesus goes into the water, right under it and then comes up again.
Jesus died on the cross, was buried in the grave and came alive again.
If you said ‘No’, your special friend will help you.
So we show that our old life is dead and buried and we have a new life in the Kingdom of God.

The Lord’s SupperIt is another very special time that you will share.
Here is a letter to you from Jesus:Q
Have you takenpart in a specialmeal called ‘TheLord’s Supper’?
Dear _____________________ (put your name here)
I’d like you to share my meal! Your birthday is a specialtime when people remember you. This meal is a specialtime to remember me. The night before I died for you, Ihad a meal with my special friends. I told them to remem-ber my death by sharing that meal. Every time they ate itthey remembered that I died for them.
Now that you are a part of my family I want you to remember that I died especially for you. Eat this meal andshare it with your cell group. I will be there too.
You did not do anything to make me love you this much.I just loved you.
As you eat, remember that because I died, your old lifeis dead too.
I love you. I loved you yesterday and I will love you tomorrow; nothing you do can change my love for you.
I love you very much.Jesus

That was a special letter, wasn’t it?It was from Jesus to you.
Write a letter from you to Jesus; perhaps you would like to read it to your special friend. If you find writing hard, a special picture for Him would be wonderful.
Jesus will see what you write to Him and it will make Him very pleased that you wrote back.

Dear Jesus,

Now I would like your special friend to read you
the letter from Jesus. Then you read the letter you
have written to Jesus.
Read Matthew 26:26-36

Being filled with the Spirit
When you received Jesus you were given His Holy Spirit.
He lives in you all the time.
We make the Holy Spirit unhappy when we do naughty things.
Fill this fruit in with some of the things that make Him unhappy.
There is a fruit that the Holy Spirit can give.
and fill in all the good things in the Holy Spirit’s fruit.
Read Galatians 5:22
Which of these good things do you think you would like to be seen in your life? Choose two that you especially need because you find them hard.
Which of these good things did Jesus have?
We need HELP to grow that fruit in our lives!

eemmoorryy VVeerrsseeJesus knows we need help, so if we ask, He says
He will fill us up with the POWER of the Holy Spirit.
Answer this question very carefully. It is very important . . .
Do you really want the Holy Spirit to fillyou up and keep fillingyou with His power?
Read Ephesians 5:18b
and cross out the wrong words below . . .
Be empty/half full/filled with the Spirit.
Jesus said He would fill us with the Spirit if we asked.
Does Jesus always do what He says He will do?
Would you like to ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up?
If you have said ‘yes’ in both the boxes your special friend will pray for you and
you will be filled with
the Holy Spirit

joy, peace, patience,
