Adjectives – describe the noun

Demonstrative Adjectives

•Demonstrative adjectives are used to point out specific people or things.

There are four demonstrative adjectives:

this, that, those, these

•“This” and “that” are used with singular nouns and answer the question which one?

I want this phone for Christmas!

That boy aced the test!

• “These” and “those” are used with plural nouns and answer the question which ones?

Those goats are climbing trees!

Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives are used to show who orwhat owns something.• my• your• his “Can you find her pencil?”• her• its• our• their “Whose laptop is it?”• whose “That is my laptop.”

Comparative adjectives•used to compare two nouns or pronouns.•Add –er to the end of one syllable words.•Add more to the beginning of multi-

syllable words.•NEVER use –er and more together

• e.g., Never say “Ms. Frizzle is a more greater teacher!”

Superlative adjectives

• Used to compare three or more nouns or pronouns• Add –est to the end of one syllable words.• Add most to the beginning of multi-

syllable words.• NEVER use -est and most together.
