l Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call A couple, both parishioners, had employed an individual several times over the course of many years to do construction and general

building maintenance at their home. While delivering sod recently, the gentleman asked if he could pray with the couple. The husband had mentioned to the man that his wife had recently undergone surgery and was fine, but couldn’t help with the yard for a couple of weeks. The gentleman knew that prayer had helped he and his wife through a difficult health issue in the past and wanted

to put the power of prayer to work for this couple. Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected].

They may be edited for space consideration.

Natural Family Planning Classes

Are you married newly married or contemplating marriage? The Catholic Church’s

teaching on Natural Family Planning is a beautiful way to complement your

marriage and plan your family. NFP is good for marriages in that it fosters

psychological and spiritual marital intimacy between spouses and strengthens the

martial bond. In keeping with the times, the Church has newer methods of NFP

which are simple, effective and objective. One of these methods is the Marquette

Model of NFP which uses a fertility monitor to measure a woman’s urinary hormones

to accurately predict her time of fertility to achieve or avoid a pregnancy with 98-99%

efficacy. The method is easy to learn and will be taught at POP in 2 classes. If

interested, please contact, Dr. Maria Meyers at [email protected] or

205-317-1499, or contact the church office

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24)

The Church and Property Rights

Catholic teaching views the vocation of politics as a vital element in building

up the kingdom of God on earth. Democracy is not merely a set of empty

procedures, but instead of way to promote the dignity of the human person,

respect for human rights and commitment to the common good. For this

reason, both the vocation of citizenship and that of political leadership are

deeply moral identities. They are rooted in the commitment to seek

solutions to society’s deepest problems; they seek to put power into practice

as service. As Pope Francis noted last September, “politics, according to the

social doctrine of the church, is one of the highest forms of charity, because

it serves the common good in humility and love.” (Read the complete article

by Most Rev Robert W. McElroy, Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco in America

Magazine, June 9-16, 2014, p 27)
