GENERAL DESIGN REQUIREMENT AND CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBIUTY

FOREWORD:

Passenger information system is an important aspect of passenger amenity. Information about trainlocation. next halting station and late running status of train and alarm system will help in enhancingpassenger comfort especially during night hours. The GPS based Passenger Information System is a

.co.!?leffective solution to provide this information to pa~sengers on a moving train. PIS for Non ACcoaches shall be as per Chapter 1, 2, 3, and 5 of this specification and PIS for AC coaches shall beas per Chapter 1, 2. 4 '1-, j 5 of this spE:."Cification.

1.1.1 This specification covers the requirement of design construction, pre-wiring. performance, tests.supply, commissioning and after sales service of Global Positioning System (GPS) basedPa~seilg(,r Information System (PIS), '

1.1.2 The syst8m shall operate on 110 V ± 30 % V AC/DC supply. It shall ret;eive its position data ofthe current station location from satellites through CoPSreceiver mcxJule attached with antenna.Necessary electronics shall be built inside the unit to communicate with GPS receiver, drivinghigh intensity Light Emitting Diode (LED) Board Unit and Liquid Crystal Diode (LCD) DisplayPanel and LCQ Display Points, power supply required for LEOs & other BoardsiPaneIJPoints.

I

System software shall be an embedded part of the unit. The unit shall also incorporate data baseof multiple train routes. The units shall be capable of operating in a standalone mode, however,if net'o\lorked the units shall be capable of displaying infolmation from a centralized system likeRTIS (Real Time Train Information S'/stem) whenever such a system becomes available.

Compatibility with RTIS / SIMRI N (whenever such a system becomes available) shall be doneby all the manufacturers in fv ure by changing in their software and provide external/internal RFmodule only. Serial interf3ce shall be provided for Master Display Board Unit !Master Board Unit.

1.1.3 The GPS receiver module shall receive the co-ordinates (longitude and latitude) information ofthe current location from GPS satellites through GPS antenna which shall be mounted on thecoach roof/suitable location in non metallic cnti theft cover and shall be attached with the GPSreceiver which shall be part of CPU. The information is transmitted to the Coach Processing Unit(CPU) which in turn decodes this position information received and fetches the index code of thelocation name from the stored data.

1.1.4 Display units shall be provided inside the coaches for displaying the scrolling/ fixedmessage/icons on Master LED Display Bo,~rd Unit, Slave LED display board Unit & Slave LCDDisplay Points and displaying the scrolling! fixed messageliconslimages on the Slave LCDDisplay Panels.

1.1.5 The PIS system shall incorporate a digital audio announcement unit having a Digital SignalProcessor (DSP) and solid state memory. The Audio Announcemen.t Unit (AAU) shall be capableof generating 'Ioice me-sages based on voice segments stored in its memory in a compresseddata. This will be transmitted to speakers through external audio amplifier unit.

1.1.6 Ar; i~xternal/internal GSM/GPRS module shall be able to communicate with master display unitso that train route updating can be made centrally "rom divisional control room, when ever suchsystem becomes available. This Module should also have ,capability for interfacing the futurerequirement of other equipments of coach like Air-conditioning system, ERRU, Inv,erter etc.
