LEEP Accelerates Home Builder Innovation

Enables builders to:

• reduce their time and risk in finding and trying innovations that can help them build higher performance homes better, faster and more affordably.

• use federal research results to inform their technology decision making.

• pool their buying power regionally to make it worthwhile for manufacturers to address the builder group’s issues. Builders in LEEP groups typically represent 50% of local production.

“LEEP assists with bringing innovation into the market in a well thought out and responsive way.”

Allows user to: 1. Define base case home

geometry.

2. Define base case home specifications.

3. Define specific upgrade scenarios according to regional needs.

LEEP’s Costing Spreadsheet

• Underlying database provides sq. ft. costs for materials and labour.

• Data based on Hanscomb Costing Study (2012), with updated costs based on data collected through LEEP processes

• All costing sheets pull from this tab.

LEEP’s Costing Spreadsheet Pulls the base case wall or mechanical system from

“Base Cases” tab.

Builder or EA can modify assemblies based on system components. Spreadsheet

calculates costs.

Spreadsheet provides initial cost impact of system.

4 Ontario Workshops This Fall/Winter

Builders will be able to make decisions based on an ‘apples to apples’ comparison of 4 competing HVAC systems for homes with low design heating loads of 25,000 btu or less.

• All 4 presenting manufacturers will consider the same two homes and provide:

– Best practice applications

– Full installed HVAC system costing

– Answers to industry questions

Builders will be the first to use a new Mechanical System Decision Guide for Low Load Homes Heated with Natural Gas
