Hot off tHe presses – here it is! Local Life’s 2014 Annual Medical & Health issue is a tradition we’ve been running every September for many years now. Find a good spot for this edition because it’s a handy tool year-round. Full of the latest information and contact data, this little book will serve as your directory for the next 12 months. Surprisingly, we’ve

had quite a few new spots open up in the community this year. My dear grandmother who lived to the ripe young age of 98 years always said, “You gotta take care of you. Eat right, be as active as you can, and make your appointments!” It may not guarantee you 98 years but certainly always sounded like good advice to me.

September, for me, is going to be a month of slowing down a bit. (fingers crossed) We had a great, and unseasonably, cooler summer but it was a hectic one. I felt like I was always running. Juggling work and activities for the kids had me in high favor of the school year starting back. My checkbook was feeling the hurt, as well. School supplies, new clothes, and cramming in those last few summer activities for making memories began to add up. We made it though. Summer 2014, I bid thee adieu! You were fun while you lasted, but I’m ready for some routine and schedule.

To all of my wonderful clients (friends) I want to share a very sin-cere Thank You! This edition is usually my largest so I’m saying it here. You make a girl feel really blessed. I’ve always said my two goals for Local Life is that (a) it works, and (b) we’re easy to do business with. All of you make it very easy to do business with and I’m grateful for your continued support. Thanks for giving me a job I love. Now, start turning pages. There’s some good stuff in here! Eating these and other heart-healthy whole foods will boost your health while pleasing your palate.

BERRIES are one of nature’s ultimate anti-aging

foods with potent antioxidants that may help prevent memory loss, lower blood pressure, and improve your skin. An additional bonus: they have fewer carbohydrates than other fruit.

TOMATOES, whether fresh or cooked, can reduce

the risk of bladder, stomach, prostate and colon cancers.

OATS can help lower cholesterol. Rich in soluble and insoluble fiber,

they can help control weight and keep you regular, too.

BROCCOLI is rich in vitamin C, a good source of

vitamin A, and contains folic acid, calcium, iron, potassium and fiber. Cooked or raw, broccoli delivers a burst of nutrition.


WALNUTS, almonds and other nuts contain protein,

fiber, vitamins, minerals and Omega-3s. A handful a day can help lower cholesterol, boost brain power, improve sleep, prevent heart disease, reduce stress, fight cancer and more.

AVOCADOS have high amounts of potassium,
