Video Conferencing

Hardware Endpoints

Until relatively recently the only option for video conferencing in an educational environment has been to have your very own dedicated hardware endpoint or codec.

These units offer excellent quality when used in conjunction with a dedicated LGfL broadband connection on your firewall.

You can dial other sites directly by using their E164 number or you can make bookings with other sites and content providers using the JaNET video conferencing booking service: www.ja.net/bookvc

These hardware endpoints (or codecs) offer fantastic quality but can be expensive.

JaNET Desktop

JaNET Desktop (AKA Cisco ConferenceMe) is a software solution which interoperates with the JaNET booking system allowing people who do not have dedicated hardware endpoints to join video conferences using a small piece of easy to use software.

People can be added to video conferences by sending them an email invitation which will contain a link to download the software and another link to the video conference itself.

Coming very soon: V-SceneFrom 28th July 2014 JaNET are releasing V-Scene:

The key benefits of v-scene are:•Person centric interface now focuses on people meeting people.•Interface more intuitively designed, with prediction wherever possible to speed use.•Launch & scheduled meeting capability.•Conference management capability with improved scaling for use on small devices.•New recording system offering better quality recordings.•New streaming system with increased capacity and simpler for people to use.•Fixed meeting rooms, which can be connected to ad-hoc (subject to availability).•New desktop client runs within a browser so does not need administrative rights to use.•Desktop client can be used on iOS & Android devices by downloading a free app.•Continued support for interoperability with Visimeet.•Improved reporting facility.

LGfL Jabber

Jabber is new from LGfL and is just for London school staff. It allows people to easily contact each other via VC by simply typing in the recipients personal 8 digit E164 number.

To get started just visit www.voip.lgfl.net and login with your USO credentials, select the Jabber tab and tick the tick box labelled "Enable Jabber VC for my USO account".

You will then be allocated your very own 8 digit personal E164 number.
