The British Museum alone makesLondon a preferred tourist destination.The museum is home to variouscollections of paintings, sculptures,antiquities and many other curiosities.

This extremely popular museum displaysan array of objects dating from pre-historic times all the way to the modernera. Amazing artefacts such as theParthenon sculptures, the Rosetta Stone,and mummies from the Ancient Egyptcollection are all a part of the variety ofthings on display.

On the banks of the River Thames one canfind Britain’s National Museum housingcontemporary and modern art. Thebuilding was previously a power station,so it has a unique shape. The restaurantsat the gallery also provide a spectacularview the city.

Tate Museum, which is now known as TateBritain, is also the oldest of the four.The museum is dedicated to Britishartwork. While it does have a considerablepermanent collection the museum alsoorganizes special exhibitions, temporaryexhibitions as well as certain prestigiouscontemporary art competitions like theTurner prize. Tracey Emin is a famous andcontroversial artist who is displayed here.The place is also alive with the frequentpresence of contemporary artists andthere are opportunities for discussion anddebate.

Located at Trafalgar square and home toabout 2300 beautiful paintings, theNational Gallery of London shoulddefinitely make its way to almost anyLondon itinerary. Set up in 1824, it thefifth most visited museum in the world.The quality and variety of art in this placeis beyond words. Some of the world’smost famous paintings are found here.

Built in 1999, it is a recent addition to theLondon skyline. Even so, it is very popularamongst the tourists in London. It is sightto see even as it is but a ride in it is alifetime experience. London Eye is a giantwheel observation wheel that turns slowenough for people to go on board while itis moving.

The complete turn of this giant wheeltakes about more than 30 minutes. It isabout 135 meters high. Go for a night view,as it is more spectacular and it iscomparatively less crowded.

Madame Tussauds is a worldwidephenomenon now but the magic began inLondon. This is a very unique museumwhere can see the wax figurines of yourfavourite celebrities and perhaps takepictures with them. Founded by a verycreative wax sculptor of the same name,Madame Tussauds has sculptures ofpoliticians, athletes, singers, actors, and ahost of other famous figures.

This place is perfect for families. Camerasare allowed so you can take pictures withthese wax versions of your favouritecelebrities. You can also have professionalphotographers take your pictures. Be sureto visit the “Chamber of Horrors” whichalso hosts a 5 minute show called“SCREAM”.
