Globally, chronic diseases are responsible for 57% of alldeaths annually, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) predicts that long term conditions will account forapproximately 65% of all deaths (over 47 million deathsannually) by 2030.
30% of Americans live with long term conditions, and theirhealthcare costs account for more than 75% of the nation’s$2 trillion in medical spending.
Britain remains one of the worst countries in Europe for cardiovascular disease, with more than 20,000 deaths annually.In Scotland, 2/5ths of the population has a long term condition

The UK economy stands to lose £16 billion over the next 10 years through premature deaths due to heart disease,stroke and diabetes.
In the US from 1998 to 2008, the Disease Managementindustry exploded from a $120 million industry to a $2.2 billion one, a ten-year cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34%.

Diabetes• Diabetes results in long run complications that cost an
estimated £1.3bn a year in the UK.• The WHO predict that there will be 2.67 million people
with diabetes in the UK by 2030 (1.76 million in 2000). • It is predicted that the US will have 30.3 million diabetics
