Sparky has a new inexpensive way to train yourhorses and practice tie down roping. The new Sparky

calf sled can be pulled behind a 4 wheeler or any type of pulling unit. You get the same practiceas with live calves but not the livestock up-keep and cost. The Sparky calf tie down will give yourhorse a jerk when it is roped and releases from the sled. You can run your rope, pick up the calfand tie it. The legs are spring loaded for gathering them. The front left leg has a loose hock jointto press straight for tying. The calf body is 75 Ibs. and it comes with a bladder for more bodyweight. Body and legs are made from a plastic rubber material that is flexible and very durable.

“I have been dealing with and feeding roping calvesfor 40 years and I have never seen a feed work aseffectively and quickly as Precision Calf Feeds. Noother feed compares. It keeps calves healthy.”I train horses for a living, specializing in calf ropinghorses. . . so I keep lots of calves to work these horseson. I give roping lessons as well, so I need to keep mycalves well in order to do my work. Precision Feeddoes it for me.

Light Shines on Rodeo’sBrightest StarsThe greatest names in professional

rodeo already have their sights set onthe fabulous Lazy E Arena and the2012 Timed Event Championship ofthe World – March 2 through 4.This is much more than an

exhibition of ProRodeo’s mostversatile athletes; it’s a showcase oftremendous talent, outstandinghorsemanship and cowboys whoreach deep inside their souls to battlethrough the rigors of the most ruggedtest they will face all year. It’s one ofthe most unique events in the sport, and it’s called the “Ironman Event ofProRodeo” for a reason – it takestremendous athleticism and a world-class heart to overcome the incrediblechallenges each of the 20 contestantsface over three days of gruelingcompetition. The Timed Event Championship is

home to the greatest in the game, from the rising stars still in search oftheir first World Championship GoldBuckles to established title holders tolegends, those men whose careershave embodied rodeo’s history so wellthat they have been inducted into theProRodeo Hall of Fame. This is whydistinguished champions TrevorBrazile, Jimmie Cooper, K.C. Jones,Kyle Lockett, Daniel Green and JoshPeek return to the hallowed Lazy Eground each March. It’s why Beau Franzen and Bryce

Davis and Russell Cardoza test theirskills in this fabulously wonderfully, fanatically unique format, whichfeatures each contestant competing ineach timed-event discipline – tie-down roping, heading, heeling, steerroping and steer wrestling – duringeach of the five go-rounds that spanover just three days. The contestantsare 20 of the most established, versatile cowboys in the game, andthey have earned the right to be partof the by-invitation-only crowd tocompete at the Lazy E, whichdeveloped the Timed EventChampionship in 1985 to determinethe best all-around timed-event

cowboy in the world – the man whocould stand out in more than hisspecialty event, the man who couldbe consistent in all five timed events. Most of today’s ProRodeo

cowboys focus on a single discipline, maybe two, but the Timed EventChampionship allows each contestantthe opportunity to spread his wingsand fly in a different direction. It’swhere fans will see a 2-Time WorldChampion Steer Wrestler (DeanGorsuch) rope, trip and tie a steer or aWorld Champion – Header (ChadMasters) bulldog a steer. It’s an outstanding test of all the

skills that have made the sport ofrodeo what it is today. It’s achallenge, which is a drawing card foreach of these world-class contestants;another factor that brings out the bestin the business is the $150,000 purse,one-third of which goes to thecontestant who has the best aggregatetime over the five-round, 25-headcompetition.Those who have walked away

with the coveted Gist Gold Buckleand $50,000 carry the admiration ofthousands of other great athletes whomake up ProRodeo. They also carrythe bragging rights to one of rodeo’sgreatest accomplishments. Thewinner of each Timed EventChampionship of the World is in aspecial class of competitor. It’s a smallfraternity, and only the best areinitiated each March.Families will enjoy all of the

activities planned for theperformances. Ticket prices are $37for VIP, box seats $30, reservedbleachers $25 and general admission$20. Children 12 and under are free ingeneral admission and VIP area.Group and multiple performancediscounts are also available. Call (800) 595-RIDE for complete details.A portion of the proceeds from the2012 Timed Event Championship willbe donated to the National Cowboyand Western Heritage Museum inOklahoma City. fter 35 years of ownership by founder Bob Feist, the

world’s richest one-day Openroping has been purchased byUllman Peterson Events, LLC.

Corky Ullman of Santa Ynez,California, and Daren Peterson ofFranktown, Colorado, have takenthe reins in time to prepare for the2012 Bob Feist Invitational inReno, Nev., on June 18. The twomet while competing at a USTRCroping in Scottsdale, Ariz., in thelate 1990s.

“It’s exciting and a little scary toconsider producing something asbig and prestigious as the BFI,”said Ullman, 60. “We’ll try toupgrade where we can and dosome things in the future to helpget the fans more involved duringthe actual event.”

Ullman, whose extended familyowns some of the oldest parkinglots in Hollywood, is a rancher. Heand his wife, Kristi, breed horseson their California spread andraise beef cattle in Oregon andCalifornia.

Having known Feist for nearly20 years, Ullman was aware thatthe roping kingpin wanted to slowdown and hand off the BFI to afriend. That’s when Ullmancontacted Peterson.

“We’re excited,” said Peterson,43. “It’s probably the most eliteroping there is in the UnitedStates, with the longest history.Even guys who aren’t rodeoinganymore come out to it.”

Peterson has been roping forabout 20 years and has worked inresidential and commercialconstruction since 1987. He andhis wife, Kami, split their timebetween Colorado’s front rangeand the Phoenix area, producingjackpots in both areas throughoutthe year under LonghornProductions.

“I’m excited for them,” saidFeist, who set out to build thegreatest Open roping in the

world – from the perspective ofactual team ropers – in 1977. “I’vealways wanted the roping to beprivately owned and for someoneto take it and run with it.”

Feist, 71, will remain a hands-on adviser to Ullman PetersonEvents. “He’ll be our consultantuntil he doesn’t want to be

anymore,” said Peterson. “Thisroping is his child.”

That means the half-million-dollar BFI will continue hosting100 teams over an 18-foot scorewith a 97 percent payback.

can tell him different. You showedhim that God is in all things youdo, believe in him, believe inyourself and nothing is impossible. We all look at the negative whenwe are in a situation that we don’tlike but even though we may notlike it, there are always positives to it, we just have to look and find them.”

These are my goals andobjectives when I’m teaching theseyoung men and boys. The firstthing I do is take the pressure offand let them have fun. Face it,there’s a tremendous amount ofpressure when a kid comes to aschool, especially if he’s not

advanced. They’ve seen the prosand then they come to my houseand it’s very intimidating. I tellthem we’re going to have fun. Noone cares if you’re six-seconds or ifyou miss every calf.

As far as teaching calf roping,I’m very strategic and break itdown. I don’t want people to leaveand say, “Man, that calf roping iseasy.” I want them to know thereare lots of blood, sweat and tearsand it’s not easy. The message is,nothing worth having is easy.Every calf roper at the top of thisgame has broken their body down.

There’s an old saying, “Peopledon’t care how much you know

until they know how much youcare.” That’s the next thing. I havean opportunity to make aconnection with these boys, tolove them, to encourage them andto build a relationship. I’m tryingto share life skills and if they pickup tips about roping, that’s great.

How many of these kids willpursue this path and becomeworld champions? Maybe a few,but not many. But they will allleave my house and live life. Theprinciples apply whether you’re acalf roper, lawyer, truck driver – itdoesn’t really matter. My maingoal is for each person to leave thisschool and realize if they’ll findwhat their passion is, and workhard at it, and make the rightdecisions, they will live a happylife and be fulfilled. That’s my goalfor the kids at my schools. Myhope is they leave and feel theywill be the very best they can be atwhatever they are called to do.

Recently I went to Philadelphiafor surgery on my cracked pelvis.

The doctors discovered my lowerabdominal muscles were pulled intwo, which was why my pelviswouldn’t heal. They repaired themuscles and now twelve days laterI’m back in the gym. I feel like I’mahead of schedule on my rehab

and am hoping to rope at Houston.I’m pretty pumped up.

Until next time, God Bless andI’ll see you down the line. Ifanything you’d like me to writeabout, please feel free to contactme at [email protected].

have always enjoyed playing the boardgame Life. But the board game I foundmore enjoyable was the game Monopoly.

My family won’t play with me anymorebecause the game has a tendency to get tensewhen you have too many houses and hotels.I’ve heard the term, “He who dies with themost toys, wins.” I don’t believe that. Ibelieve that, “He who lives with peace in hislife, wins.” In order to have peace in our lives,we must be willing to ask the right questionsand then to hear the right answers. I’d like toask you four questions that hopefully willcause you to think and bring a verdict to yourlife about who you are. The first question, “Who Are You?” We

have mastered this elaborate game ofperception. We want people to think we aresomething or not something. Many in oursociety have hidden lifestyles, hidden agendasand superficial facades. Hypocrisy hasinfiltrated the world and many in the churchhave bought into it. Often we get lost becauseour lifestyle has muffled or extinguished whowe really are, our “Spiritual DNA” if you will.Psalm 139:1-5 says this, “O LORD, You havesearched me and known me. You know whenI sit down and when I rise up; You understandmy thought from afar. You scrutinize my pathand my lying down, and are intimatelyacquainted with all my ways. Even beforethere is a word on my tongue, Behold, OLORD, You know it all. You have enclosed mebehind and before, and laid Your hand uponme.” (NASB)Second question, “What Are You?” Some of

you know what you are created to be, but forsome reason haven’t become it. Fear, frustration, bad decisions, laziness,

compromise and sometimes success keep youfrom God’s purpose in what you wereactually created for.Third questions, “Where Are You?” Each

age presents a new possibility and a newopportunity, if we are willing to accept it. Weall go through ages and stages of life. Whereare you today? It’s important to have honestself-evaluation and admit if we’re not wherewe should be and be willing to change to getto where we need to be.Last question, “What Do You Really

Want?” This is perhaps the most demandingquestion and the least answered. Are thethings you want, the things that God wantsfor you? Do you own your possessions or doyour possessions own you? Do you wantGod to get in on what you’re doing or areyou willing to get in on what God’s doing.Very important questions if you want peacein your life.I want to leave you with this one

scripture, “Trust in the LORD and do good;dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.Delight yourself in the LORD; and He willgive you the desires of your heart. Commityour way to the LORD, Trust also in Him,and He will do it.” Psalm 37:3-5 NASB.

Well, Denver Market has ended and fromwhat I can tell from the folks I have

talked to who attended this year’s event, theoverall consensus is, the year looks promising.Lots of new equipment and styles are beingoffered and buyers are excited for theupcoming retail season. This means you willbe able to find more products at your localfeed and livestock stores to help in yourventures at events and rodeos. It also meansthat the market is opening up a bit—vendorsare getting a fresh perspective and people arestarting to buy again. Does this mean theoverall economic debacle of the country isover? Who knows, but it is a promising sign. The way I see it, there are several things

that have come together to give us apromising future. To begin, in less than a yearwe will have a presidential race andpersonally, I think the tides in Washingtonwill change. People and companies have beenholding onto what money they have and areready to start spending it. However, with somuch doubt in our government over the pastfew years and the uncertainty of what is goingto happen with taxes, bailouts, social securityand healthcare (which only scratches thesurface) it’s easy to see why people have notbeen spending money. In addition, the badeconomy has somewhat cleared the air. Thisapplies to the population as a whole, as wellas corporations. The people and companiesthat were on the bubble have fallen off theedge and those that withstood the economicdownslide were able to find ways to grow. This sounds kind of bad, but was needed inorder to keep a balance in our economy. Ibelieve a healthy balance of the rich, middleclass and poor is needed for a healthyfinancial system.I believe there will always be a class

division, but also believe that a strongeconomy encourages people to work harderfor what they have or want. If too manypeople just have their hand out for someoneelse to fill it, the whole economical systemgets out of whack. This is exactly whathappened over the past five or six years. Moreand more people spent out of their budget

and in return wanted a bailout from a governmentthat is not set up to give it to them.I still believe the price of oil going through the

roof started the downslide and think that since weare paying less at the pump now helps the overalleconomy. I also think that our government needsto realize this impact on our society and keep areasonable view on how to adapt to our needs. I guess I kind of rambled on about a very broad

picture this month, but it was on my mind andwhat better place to share than here. I hope you allhave a great roping season and continue to do yourpart in getting our country back on track in themonths ahead.

Until Next Month – Good Luck and God Bless
