Read for Rumbek “Drop Everything And Read” week took place from the 8th – 12th October 2012 to raise money for Loreto Rumbek Harry Potter - Read Aloud in the Library started off the week on Monday at lunch time. Book club members took turns to read aloud some of their favourite passages from the Harry Potter series.
• Gaisce Library volunteers placed books and posters around the school inviting everyone to take a book.
• A book swap was arranged in the Library on the Wednesday, which was very popular.
• Authors Paula Leyden and Elizabeth
Swords came to the school on Thursday to meet with 1st Year and 4th
Year to talk about their writing.

Smock Alley Theatre in Temple Bar to find out
what inspires top sci-fi and fantasy authors

Kiernan [Into the Grey, The Moorehawke
Trilogy].
From virtual worlds to sophisticated
technology, Conor and Celine spoke about
how they were inspired to write about the
incredible worlds they have created.

New Books in the Library
Book clubs for the new school year started again on 12th September with 2nd Years getting the ball rolling. There was lots of enthusiastic discussion about which books had been read over the summer holidays. Lots of requests and recommendations were made too.
Lists of all book club recommended books are available in the Library.

Spelling Bee
On Thursday 29th November the first inter-school Spelling Bee competition was held in Alexandra College in Milltown. Two qualifiers were held in the Beaufort Library with Aisling O’Leary, Hannah Treanor, Aisling Stafford, Allsun McCarthy, Emily Kelehan & Sarah O’Brien going on to represent Beaufort in the Final. Very well done girls!
