Dear DAS Families,

Please refer to the information below regarding Coronavirus. At Discovery Academy of

Science we are deep cleaning our campus each evening after students leave, teachers are educating

their students about ways we can spread germs, proper ways to clean our hands before eating/after

bathroom breaks and hand sanitizer available for all students and staff in all locations of campus.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

As you may have heard, the bay area now has three cases of Coronavirus positive patients.

DAS is closely monitoring the situation. Our first priority is student safety and well being of

all students at DAS. You can check the live updates on this

link. https://www.pcsb.org/coronavirus

According to the officials, the overall risk for Florida is low.

DAS will follow PCSB, Florida Department of Health, and CDC center for disease control

guidelines regarding Coronavirus.

We also contacted the Pinellas County Health Department and posted informative posters all

around the school building for students.

All of our teachers showed informative videos to students about not spreading diseases and

the importance of personal hygiene, including washing hands and using hand sanitizers

frequently. We have enough hand sanitizers at the school. Many thanks to parents who

donated them at the very beginning of the school year.

I have instructed a deeper cleaning of classrooms, cafeteria, restroom, and office from our

cleaning company. Our cleaning company comes each night to clean the school.

If your child shows any symptoms of virus, please contact your health care provider and

keep your student at home.

Mrs. Ranze’s Gifted Class News:

March 6, 2020

This week students started with their

vocabulary challenge. Students were

asked to go back in their notebooks and

select their favorite idea to expand on.

They were asked to put more details

into their design and seek my assistance

for labeling or questions. Students were

given a large amount of time to do this

so that we can begin thinking about the

next steps with their design. We

wrapped up our time with STEM bins.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

This Week

Here at the South Campus of DAS we have continued our Lacrosse unit. Lacrosse is a

team sport invented by the Native Americans involving a stick with a net attached to it. The

object of the game is to throw the ball into the opposing team’s goal. This week we worked

on passing, reviewed cradling (how they carry the ball in the stick), and did some modified

friendly gameplay. We also watched two videos on lacrosse and did a worksheet. One of

the videos was of lacrosse today, the other depicted how Native Americans used to play it

hundreds of years ago.
