Just call me lazy, but here is a direct quote from last year’s August message: “I hope everyone had a great 4th and are ready for more summer fun. Congrats to Mike and Molly, June’s Fagowees of the Month, in recognition of their encore performance leading this year’s Float Trip.” Yes, I usually cheat and check last year’s messages to kick start my brain. It isn’t plagiarism if you steal from your own writing (is it?).
As usual, the Fagowees are enjoying a full fun summer schedule. We were fortunate to enjoy some of the best weather for the float trip this year; payback for last
year’s monsoon season. Then in July we continued wining and dining with two great well-attended events including our Bar-of-the-Month at Madi-gan’s Tiki Bar and dinner night at Village Brauhaus in Old Town. Thanks to John Morrison and Mary Sloper for hosting these events.
“Fun continues in August leading with a BUNCO game night ‘under the stars’ at the Sloper’s. Be sure to let them know you’re coming so they can plan for enough tables.” (Yep, an-other quote from last year.) BUNCO was a great success last year, don’t miss the fun this year at the Sloper’s and their “Disneyland” themed back yard.
Also in August: 8/18 Game day at Nats park with Stacy Hickman on the 18th as they
take on Milwaukee. Check with her to see if tickets are still available. If not, join us for another Nat’s game against Cleveland on 9/28.
8/27 Sting at Wolftrap (sign-ups closed) 8/28 Drag Queen Bingo at Freddie’s Beach Bar in Crystal City. Join
John Morrison and the rest of us degenerates for what’s always a campy evening of fun.
Then we’re back to OC for Labor Day – I checked the records and this will be our 15th beach trip since taking over from Dutch in 2012. (I think maybe we are starting to get it right.) Sandy and I have 37 sign-ups to date and only one efficiency left. Don’t miss out. Now is the time to make your decision – this trip will close once this last unit is sold or at our 8/6 membership meeting, if not sold by that time.

Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about ski trips for the winter of 2019 - 2020.
The ever popular Fagowee trip to Canaan Valley is approved for February 7 - 9, 2020
BRSC (Blue Ridge Ski Council)
January 25 - February 1, 2020 **—The BRSC Western Carnival to Snowmass, Colorado
February 21 - 29, 2020— We are working on a Fagowee group to go to the BRSC Asiafest in Japan (Hakuba, Nagano, Niseko, and Tokyo)
March 8 - 13, 2020— We are also considering having a Fagowee group to go to BRSC's Winterfest in Killington, Vermont
March 14 - 21, 2020 ** —The Cleveland branch of the Fagowees' trip to Mammoth Mountain, California (https://www.fagowees.org/event/mammoth-mountain-ski-bash/)
** These two ski trips are readily available to Fagowee members, but the trips will probably not be DC Fagowee-run trips.
But wait, there is more:
Because you are a Fagowee, you can join any ski trip with space available being run by another BRSC-member ski club and the trip has been sanctioned by the BRSC. There are already some 2019 -2020 trips posted. (http://skicouncil.com/tripsbydate.htm)
Most of the trips also accept non-skiers and are in areas where there are things to do that are not skiing. For help on who to talk to or where to get more info on the trips, contact Michael Stumpf, the specific trip leader or any other Board member.
Throughout the season, there is also the possibility of impromptu ski trips to local or semi-local ski areas. It is unlikely we will have enough people to get group rates or packages, but it would be company to ski with. If you may be interested in such ski trips next winter, contact Michael Stumpf at [email protected] with your thoughts and interests.

June Fagowees of the Month Mike and Molly Stumpf
Let’s extend a huge shout of thanks to Mike and Molly Stumpf for another great float trip this year! Almost 50 tribe members enjoyed friendships, camping, eating, drinking, s’mores, and float-ing down the beautiful Shenandoah River. The weather was a perfect 10. Mike and Molly always take good care of us with great food (most of which they prepare beforehand). Thankfully, they had help setting up camp, food prep, cooking, and takedown. This is the most difficult trip we do all year. Next time you see these angels, give thanks, pats on the back or a drink of their choice!

MORE HANDS, LIGHTER WORK, MORE FUN
The Fagowee Ski Club is always looking for volunteers to help in developing, plan-ning, and leading activities or trips and as the appointed chairs for the standing com-mittees. So, whether you are looking to give back to the Club or to share your favor-ite activity with others or both; there are numerous opportunities, both large & small.
Right now we are especially looking for volunteers to be Appointed Officials for the 2019 – 2020 fiscal year. The list of Appointed Officials is in the lower left corner of page 2 of each month’s newsletter.
Yeah, last year we had folks in each position, and a lot of them were old hands or board members who are glad to serve; but may be willing to give up a job or two to new helping hands.
If you are interested in serving as an Appointed Official or in any other capacity,

It’s déjà vu all over again!!! We’re going back (and we will continue to do so until we’re kicked out!)
We are doing our second annual trek to OC at the Beach Plaza Hotel apartments for the long Labor Day weekend. These are garden style apartments with an interior courtyard and a private front lawn directly on the boardwalk where we hang out, enjoy a brew or two (or …), and critique the passers-by. This property on 13
th Street is the best location on the strip;
close enough to walk to all the attractions, several restaurants, and the bar next door; far enough away from the crush of crowds.
Price includes 3 nights lodging and a Saturday afternoon welcome party with beer, wine and munchies. Better yet, opt for a 4 or 5-night stay by signing up for an extra night at the front and/or back end of the trip at a deeply discounted rate. Parking is free and convenient. No pets.
All efficiencies have two double beds and a full kitchen. Apartments have a bedroom with two double beds, a living room with 2 day beds, & a full kitchen.
