Loving God Loving People Growing Together Moving Forward
Faith Connections
The title of this article is borrowed from a Charles Wesley hymn of 1749. This
hymn is always the first sung at annual conference and is a reminder of God’s provision
during the time when we do not see each other. I’ll come back to that, but for now let me
say that as I sit and write this article the newsletters for June have just been mailed and
emailed. My article in that newsletter is about our plan for reopening our church facilities.
Also, as I write this article I have just received notice that annual conference this year will
more than likely be held by Zoom or some other video electronic format.
I’ll be honest with you, as the impact of this virus drags out so much longer than I
ever imagined it would, I find it entirely frustrating. I long to see you face to face, not
through a car windshield or computer screen. I miss sharing fellowship around the table
with you. I miss worshipping in our sanctuary with you. I miss serving along side you in
mission. I miss you! I was blessed and encouraged to recount in a recent sermon many of
things God has done in and through our church family over the last four years and I am
looking forward to what God will continue to do in the future.
Right now I feel like someone has pressed a pause button and is holding everything
up, even though I know our church family is engaged in mission and ministry in the midst
of all that is going on. I know we are calling each other and checking on each other. I
know that we are helping with food distribution to those in need. I know that we are giving
faithfully to meet financial needs. I know that we are living our vision for life and ministry
together in the midst of this and I am truly overwhelmed with the love our church family is
demonstrating.
Maybe you are frustrated too. Maybe you think this virus has been overblown and
everything should return to as it was before immediately. Maybe you think this virus is
here to stay and social distancing and staying home are going to be the new normal. Maybe
you are somewhere in the middle. May I ask you to join me in prayer in the midst of our
frustration? Would you join me in praying for wisdom for myself and all who have
responsibility in leadership of our church family? Would you pray with me for our
national, state, and local civic leaders to have wisdom from God as well? Would you pray
for all of us who are frustrated with the situation to take those frustrations to God and
receive His love and comfort? Would you join me in prayer for a return to in person
meetings, worship and fellowship as soon as possible?
The first two verses of Wesley’s hymn reads, “And are we yet alive and see each
others face? Glory and thanks to Jesus give for His almighty grace! Preserved by Power
Divine to full salvation here, again in Jesus’ praise we join, and in His sight appear.” While
we are limited in our contact with each other let's remind ourselves that Jesus is sustaining
us. Let us celebrate that we do get to see each other, even if it is through the windshield or
computer screen! Let us remind ourselves that He is with us!

Church Activities & Events:
We are now in Phase 1! It is an exciting to begin the process of slowly returning
normal. We will continue the Drive-In Worship on Sundays. Groups of 25 or less
who meet in the facility during the week can resume meeting. Please contact the
church if your group would like to begin meeting again. There is a packet that
your group needs to have before you begin meeting. We will add your event to the
calendar as you let us know you’d like to meet again. If you are involved with
Happy Hearts or Wednesday Night Suppers, these events will NOT take place as
shared meals are not part of Phase 1. Please listen for or look for information from
the church on updates about when we will move to Phase 2 through email and/or
One Call Now notifications. The included calendar may not be the most up to
date, so check the website calendar if you are unsure of an event. If you have a
need, please call us and we will try to help (826-5796). Leave a message if we do
not answer and we will call you back. The office has abbreviated hours, but
messages and emails are checked regularly.
Giving:
You can still give through our website on line at rinconumc.com or by mail at 107 Savannah
Avenue, Rincon, GA 31326.
Good Things are Still Happening:
The Parsonage kitchen renovation is complete!! We are excited to have an open house in the
future to allow you to see the wonderful new Parsonage kitchen.
Hopefully by the time you receive this we will have begun Phase 1 of our
reopening plan and will be able to see each other face to face very soon. We may
need your help with donations of disinfectants (aerosol, spray or wipe) since they are
kind of scarce right now and are necessary for disinfecting spaces after use.
Remember God loves you and I love you and nothing can stop God’s people
who are about God’s purpose!

Tree Removal Trustees removed trees at the parsonage due to the danger they posed
to the Parsonage and our pastoral family. The original amount needed
was $8,500. We have spent $3,200 to remove the trees. We still need
$5,300 to remove the rest of the trees and for stump removal of the
trees already removed. Please note “Trees” on your donations. Thank
you for your help with this need.

NEW WORSHIP TIME: Remember: Drive-In worship is at 10 am. This new time will help with
the heat of summer and for those that have their windows down. This
new time will remain as we move through the Phases of reopening. Stay
well and safe. We look forward to seeing you on Sundays!!

Family Promise Update: Family Promise has resumed operations as of June 14. Our church's
next week of service begins July 26th.
There are a lot of changes taking place in this ministry. Overnight
volunteers will no longer be needed, as Family Promise has hired
staff to stay overnight. Therefore, all we need to do is provide
meals.
Due to Covid-19 meal volunteers will be unable to enter the Family Promise house until the first of the year.
The new procedure is to bring the meals to the front door and knock. The residents will come to the door and
take the food from you. We must wear masks and gloves when delivering the meals to protect the health of
everyone involved. Please use disposable pans or bowls (from the Dollar Tree or other stores) to put the
food in, as you may have difficulties getting your pots or dishes back.
If you need help getting masks or gloves or pans or bowls, please let me know and I will get them for you.
The week prior to July 26th I will place a sign up sheet on the back door of the church with all the details. You
can also contact me by phone at 502-337-5893 and by email at [email protected]
